Exactly. She took the bait. I remember during that 2013 - 2015 era, the media was pitting Iggy and Nicki against each other. I’m surprised IggY wasn’t scouted as a model. She had such a unique look. I always felt she should’ve rapped in her Australian voice. My favorite song was “Impossible is nothing.” I was going through hell and one of my friends played it and resonated with me. But that’s the only song.

No. I actually like first three albums. And for an entire year (2018) had “Saviour” on repeat. She literally did nothing for the hip hop community, did nothing for black culture, and kept on insisting she did nothing wrong in her appropriation. Which black female rapper was she on good terms with? Which rapper did she take under her wing? That lack of self awareness and imbecility is what led to her downfall. She should have taken the path of Eminem or Macklemore empower others of the community you are claiming.
It’s just nuts that she went from being a genuine artist that everyone liked to people focusing on all this petty ish and trying to destroy her for no reason. She didn’t do nothing wrong, or half as bad as some of the artists that are popular today. I was never a huge fan but I feel so bad for her after all the work she did just to have the industry turn on her like that. I honestly suggest all artist to try to make it independently. There’s so many tools for exposure nowadays that labels aren’t that necessary.

I think it’s so interesting with the “runaway slave master” line she either is telling the truth and was initially uncomfortable with it but a room full of black men okayed it OR if she’s lying and throwing them under the bus…regardless someone in that room was setting someone up for failure but I never seen that clip until right now and wow the jokes truly write themselves
Wait? We skipped over the whole part of her having a baby? What the heck? When did that happen? All of a sudden, at the very end of the video its like, iggy has a 3year old baby. Like wtf!?!?! 😮
This is the thing for me… as Black Americans many of us have no problem with others respectfully participating in our culture. The whole world does at this point… the problem is people pretending they’re not participating in or emulating our culture. The second issue is reducing our culture to “ratchet” stereotypes. Iggy has done all of these things at one point or anther but has denied it. That’s the issue. I think she’s gorgeous, smart, clearly driven to move across the globe at 16 and I’ve seen videos of her with Trixie Matel 😂 that have shown her personality. She seems very sweet and cool. It’s just… don’t worship Tupac, become a rapper, move to ATL, start rapping in an ATL “blaccent”, get a BBL and lip filler, exclusively date Black men, have a Black child, benefit off the Black community and then act as if your whole personality isn’t built around Blackness. 😂 That’s all girl. That would be like me moving to Japan, building my whole personality around Japanese culture, getting cosmetic procedures to look Japanese, and then pretending that I wasn’t inspired by Japanese culture. People would have an issue with that but when it’s the other way around no one cares. 🤷🏽♀️😩
So if we embrace your culture we are fake, if we don’t embrace your culture then we are racist. I never knew you had to be a specific color to embrace and love any culture or man. She was attacked and things were made impossible for her from the start. And although I respect your opinion and point of view. what I gather in what you wrote it seems that a white women should not rap, date a black man or like any black rappers because it’s not her culture. People should respect, honor, and love other people for who they are and not the color of their skin or what culture they belong to because if not, that cycle will never end.
Thank you for saying this. I was in high school enjoying her at the time, but even then I knew something was OFF and she was reaping all the benefits as a WW and being enabled by the BM around her.

British people, Irish, Welsh, Australians...no matter what the accent...the way singing works ...is conducive to the American accent..the voice gravitates naturally to the drawl of the US accent..no matter where you are from
Yall talking bout "cultural appropriation" be the same ones listening to Jack Harlow, Justin Bieber, JungKook etc... the list goes on. Its crazy how much hate iggy gets when so many non-black artists are receiving accolades by doing exactly what iggy has done, taking part in black culture. She used to rap with a southern accent b/c she flew to the southern states as a young teenager to learn rap from southern rappers, but dropped the "blaccent" post-2015 after the backlash and publicly apologized. Yall should be cancelling every Kpop group that uses black culture for their benefit lmao, keep the same energy.
Azealia saying "Iggy Azalea is like my albino child I randomly gave birth to in a pre-historic African village during Pangea. My early human brain thought she was demonic because of her albinism so l wrapped her in a malanga leaf and left her in a cave miles away from the village" will never not be funny 💀
Its really insensitive tho, albino people have really hard lives in some places where it is believed their body parts have magical powers and albinism alone has some health difficulties that go with it
To me she was a no nonsense girl in a genre that doesn't accept that coming from a white woman. She was right in her responses but people would conveniently only see the reaction and not what caused it. People really tried to police her, how she sings, the language she use, etc. and she just answered to that. You do the same thing as white artists to a black woman and all hell would break loose. It's the hipocrisy for me.
Loved Iggy Azalea since she came out with “Work”. The reason she fell off is because she didn’t have media training and she had a very fiery personality when someone was picking at or with her. That’s why some people in the rap game basically bullied her out of the way. She wasn’t gonna let anyone talk mess or be slick towards her simply because she’s a white girl. Then of course you had the toxic stans constantly trying to start beef with her and Nicki when there really wasn’t any. Nicki didn’t even see her as a threat until Iggy started taking all the features as the “token rap girlie”. Which brought out Nicki’s competitive side and of course Iggy was no match for the Queen of Rap. Though she did have a mean pen. There was also that verse controversy which I think was a Kendrick song if I’m not mistaken.
She fell off because she sucks. You must have missed her attempt to freestyle and all the parts of this video talking about her cancelled tours due to lack of ticket sales.
No shes definitely a girls girl. Just because she dont fuck with megan (which alot of girls dont). Iggy has a HUGE list of female rappers and singers and actors that shes friends with. Nice dodge tho
was a fan of iggy since 2013, she even noticed me on twitter once, and so on, but knowing about that letter destroyed me. never have i thought she would be capable of standing against a fellow female artist on a court case as sensitive as that one
In this case, I would agree, but in many cases that is not true... I completely get that if you are not from a certain background or demographic, you may never understand the issues of said group, but it's a very nuanced issue that ppl rarely take the time to educate themselves on in order to understand...
Nah, Iggy was getting all the recognition Nicki Minaj was struggling to get. I just knew that the industry was conspiring to make her the white Nicki Minaj. Iggy was treated unfairly, but I was not comfortable with the clear favoritism. Iggy had 4 Grammy nominations and Nicki didn't have even 1 for 2 of her hit albums at the time
So her big sin was putting on an accent? I don't get why she was "cancelled"... There are MANY rappers out there with an alter ego. Nut when iggy did it it somehow became wrong... And WTF snoop going after her with such OLD sexist bullying..
iggy is a white womanly trying to cosplay a stereotypical black women that’s the problem. It’s not like she just tried to use AAVE cause there would be no problem with that but she whole heartedly wanted every inch of black culture for her exploitation.
This is kind of surreal. She was definitely a part of some of the songs I listened to when I was basically in Highschool. I would listened to a few of her songs just a couple of times. But the one song for some reason is still stuck with me to this day, was her ‘Heavy Crown’ where she sang With Ellie Goulding Around 2014. I think because it was featured in the trailer from one of my favorite movie franchises, Kingsman.
The more I learn about Iggy, the more i like her. She was unique: Blonde, Australian, stauesque, and had the 'It' factor. Shoulda been handled better by the (mostly) men who guided her career and been on some real pop rap legend shit now.
I have to say I can see where everyone is coming from on this... I don't think most people's issues with Iggy are actually personal but what she represents in a time where we're still very often seen as less than yet a white person comes in and makes bank emulating our art and labour where most of us would never see the same level of success with her level of talent. That said, she left home at 16, a baby, and had a predator who knew her from even younger in her myspace days waiting to prey on and groom her. Then when she had success without him he tried to claim her. I do buy that she didn't realise it would be cultural appreciation cause she grew up emulating black folks from the States and she was taken in by black folks when she moved there who clearly said nothing. That said, that doesn't excuse her from not accepting that it's wrong once she's told it's wrong. I agree with her that women in the entertainment industry in general are far more harshly criticised. What she did is almost nothing compared to Tim Burton saying black people don't meet his aesthetic and even after that people watch Wednesday and love Beetlejuice 2 with the only black people in it being a racial stereotype from 50 years ago. I think she must've wished on a monkey paw or something cause while I guess she made a buck people seem to actually hate her and for why really?
In my opinion her last album, or at least the latest shows how talented misunderstood underrated she actually is. Too bad the world cancelled and gave up on her already.
She survived a lot of backlash in the industry, she survived snoop dog Eminem, her ex-husband, but her mistake was going after the Britneyarmy. They literally killed her career.

Biggest thing I learned from this is that she legitimately quit 😮. That sucks. I hope she's happy with whatever she's doing rn.
Yes! Man I’m relieved to find this comment some of these commenters were scaring me 😭
So if we embrace your culture we are fake, if we don’t embrace your culture then we are racist.

Its crazy how much hate iggy gets when so many non-black artists are receiving accolades by doing exactly what iggy has done, taking part in black culture.

Not entirely true
Nah, Iggy was getting all the recognition Nicki Minaj was struggling to get. I just knew that the industry was conspiring to make her the white Nicki Minaj.
