I have the DeJur Electra camera with the turret, and selenium light meter….. after resisting DeJur cameras for a while, I figured I should try one out….. they are quite nice…. And I am more impressed than I thought I would be. Thanks, guys!
Mike! How about a video with side-by-side of examples of the various double-8 emulsions (color, BW, all different ISOs -- but shot in the same camera) available? To compare grain, exposure latitude, etc.... *PLEASE*??? John needs more time in *FRONT* of the camera anyway....
@@FilmPhotographyProject -- Well... I did not mean film them all at the same time of course. But using the same camera means the same lens/speed/transport/exposure mechanism. What is shown in each clip would not have to be the same across each test. Hmmm. Uh-oh -- rapidly approaching rocket science here!!!! 🙂
I too have the Electra. I’m about to send in some film shot in that camera. The selenium meter of course doesn’t work but fortunately it has manual controls as well. I really like the “trap-door” mechanism which the Electra also has.
A changing bag is a handy item to have with you when unsure what is going on inside of the camera and need to check film status. With a little practice it is easy to learn to load and flip inside of a changing bag eliminating light burn in almost entirely.
Probably not the place to ask, but does anybody know why a Bell and Howell 2143xl would not have anything visible in the viewfinder? Does it need film for the reflex finder to work? Everything else in the camera works, but I can't see anything other than the little test dot.
@@FilmPhotographyProject I appreciate you taking the time to help direct me to the super 8 Facebook group and all the film I've gotten from y'all across the years. You guys are why I started shooting cinema film in the first place.
With a Goodle search I found the camera manual. That should assist in troubleshooting - www.manualslib.com/products/Bell-And-Howell-2146-Xl-3871460.html

A possibility. All show with the same camera....hmmm, that might be tough.

That film gate is fantastic

Bell and Howell 2143xl ? Yup, not on subject or even format. Why not ask on the FaceBook Super 8 group?
@@FilmPhotographyProject I didn't know there was one, and figured you guys would have an easy time answering this.
We haven't seen a 2143xl come past our desk yet.

Near the beginning -- John's best Monster-Movie performance ever!
Gotta love how simple that camera design is!
