That is saltillo tile! It is traditional mexican terra cotta. Each piece is hand made and the color DOES vary piece to piece. I have it in my bathroom. I am actually obsessed with the variation in the color from piece to piece, it's so authentic and unique. Go for it!! You can also always change the sheen afterwards with diffferent sealers.

I toured a home with terracotta flooring and I LOVED it. It was the darker color and a similar matte & gloss finish not too much of either. Definitely do the darker color! I think it’d look amazing!
