    A 5e Quest for the Ultimate Damage Build
    Hexasorcadin sounds like magical nonsense but for 5e players it can be the magical incantation you need for dealing the maximum amounts of damage possible as a player character. Hexasorcadin is a multiclass build name for a 3-class split, Hexblade Warlock, Sorcerer, and Paladin. These three classes are all powerful damage dealers with a variety of power levels on their own but together they form a Frankenstein's monster of class features and damage dice that can turn anything that comes your way into a smoking crater. So, grab your character sheets and start crafting a plausible story to your DM about how this power level build totally makes sense for the character as we go through everything you need to know.

    Hexasorcadin fot RP:
    You are of a noble bloodline, who is innately magical. They gained this power by making a deal with their deity, to always offer their first born son or daughter as a champion. This champion takes a sacred oath to serve this deity, and are gifted additional powers from this deity, as part of becoming their champion.
    Great face for a party, as well as damage that can help the frontline or peel for the squishies.

    Currently playing a Hexasorcadin in a Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign. The DM plans to take us all the way to Lv 20 with some additional content. The character is currently Vengeance Paladin 6/Hexblade 1. V. Human feat was Resilience Con because I had fairly average stats rolled. STR 15 DEX 12 CON 14 INT 12 WIS 12 CHA 16. The lv 4 feat was War Caster. The character's role is the tank of the group. The saving throws are amazing with the Aura. Skills are: Athletics Arcana, Insight, Persuasion, and Religion. Athletics comes up a lot more than you would think.
    So far this character is amazing. They have yet to drop concentration on a spell and they are quite often low on HP. Their AC is a base 21 with access to Shield and Shield of Faith to boost it higher. Their HP is ok, but the high AC means that any hit is usually a crit. The Cleric in the party will cast Aid at max level every day to help out. I save the divine smites for critical hits. The short rest recharge on the Warlock spell slot is amazing. Having Bane, Hunter's Mark, Misty Step, and Hold Person as domain spells is just fantastic. I honestly have never cast Hunter's Mark. There are far better uses of your concentration as a tank. I find that Shield of Faith or Bless are always being cast in every combat. Misty Step is also a top contender for use.
    In terms of RP, this is the best character that I have ever had. They are going down a very Walter White to Heisenberg path. Small choices that you can not blame them for making. Small choices that slowly lead to a very dark path. The INT and Religion rolls have been absolutely abysmal too. He could read the contract and saw the name Levistus, but couldn't remember who that was. All he knew is that this mysterious figure spared his life and offered him assistance.
    The plan is to take a total of 4 levels in Hexblade. This gives 2x Lv2 spell slots that recharge on a short rest, 2 invocations, a Pact, and a feat. The feat will be +2 CHA. The 2x Lv2 spell slots that recharge on a short rest will be abused constantly. Misty Step, Invisibility, Hold Person, and Enhance Ability are going to be used liberally. The invocations will be a hard choice. My DM will let me take Gift of the Everliving Ones since the total character level is over 5th level. As the party tank, getting automatic max healing is kind of nice. Having Find Familiar is going to be a nice bonus that opens up a lot of exploration and RP options. I think the other invocation will be Eyes of the Rune Keeper or Eldritch Sight.
    After level 10 it is all Shadow Sorcerer. Darkvision, Darkness, and Strength of the Grave are just amazing additions. The first feat will be another +2 CHA to cap it at 20. The last feat might be Lucky. Access to Absorb Elements will help mitigate elemental damage. Metamagic choices will be: Quicken, and either Subtle, Twin, or Distant. The group has learned how useful the Silence spell is. This is a good tactic to combine with Subtle spell. It is incredibly infuriating for enemy casters. Level 3 spells will be Counterspell and either Vampiric Touch (Distant), Protection From Energy, Dispel Magic, Fly, or Tongues. The capstone spell is going to be Telekinesis. Who doesn't want to be a Jedi/Sith?

    I had a theory crafted Hexasorcadin when I was starting out. My best version of the build that is pure DPS is 5 Hexblade Warlock, 3 Devotion Paladin, and the rest in divine Sorcerer. My version has 5 Hexblade for Eldritch Smite and Thirsting Blade, and the ability to use Heavy Weapons as pact weapons. Devotion Paladin for the +5 in Attack Rolls boosted by Great Weapon Master & Polearm Master + Smite. Divine Soul Sorcerer is for Spirit Guardians + All Cleric & Sorcerer AOE + Utility & Healing. Eldritch & Divine Smite can be used at the same time in case that you crit.

      If your DM allows it then I strongly recommend tunnel fighter which pairs really well with PAM. I also loved pairing hexblade with phoenix sorcerer (UA) which can be pretty deadly if you get your hands on a flame tongue. Devil sight and hunger of hadar is a helpful tool on that build as well. Oh and there’s a feat called metabolic control which is game changing for warlocks!

    The biggest benefit to Pact of the Blade is that you can make any weapon into your pact weapon. This includes heavy weapons, giving you the option to pick up the Great Weapon Master feat. This can make your sorlocadin deal much better sustained damage at the cost of the -5 to hit. And it includes a weaponized bonus action when you drop a foe or deal a critical hit. Getting advantage, say using Vow of Emnity from Vengeance Paladin, mitigates the penalty in almost all cases. Another good pact is Pact of the Chain, to get the invisible imp that can fly by and take the help action to give you sustained advantage on your first attack ever round. At least 2 levels in Warlock also unlocks the Devil's Sight invocation, which has fun shenanigans with Darkness to get advantage to hit and impose disadvantage against any enemy who cannot see you. Also, Shadowblade *cannot* be used as a pact weapon, nor can you cast Green Flame Blade with it. Another option instead of Sorcerer is College of Whispers Bard. It is a Charisma full caster with slightly better hit points, and the Psychic Blades feature can be used to deal tons of damage. Sorcerer does have a better spell selection. Clockwork Soul Sorcerer has the best spell selection, a decent tanking feature at 6th, and an absolutely broken feature in Trance of Order if you go all the way to Sorcerer 14 (leaving Warlock 3, Paladin 3 as a possibility).

    "Born of the storm and holy paladin of great renown (new recruit), until one day I was faced with impossible odds (three goblins on easy terrain) until I heard a voice offering me assistance. 'My goddess!' I thought. But, alas, it was a trickster devil who cursed me with this weapon (a moon-touched sword) and now I have become an oathbreaker (not really, his order didn't care but he put himself on self-imposed exile) so now I travel abroad, seeking a way to refrain from my hideous impulses that this accursed weapon feeds me! (Literally none)"

    From an rp pov, you can be a half-elf drow of Shar. Your fey lineage can justify the sorcerer part, Paladin power for being a patron of Shar. Half elves can already have a hard time fitting in… and half drow in particular no matter the society. Despite immense effort to try to ascertain acceptance. The feel of powerlessness, guilt, and general jadedness lead to making a pact to become the most dominating force for either order or chaos.

    I’m playing a character in a home brew campaign right now that is going this path. In the campaign there is an evil wizard that is doing experiments on certain gifted beings. My out of town Owlin was a victim of this.
    Basically, the wizard found a broken fragment of a deity that manifested as a weakened angel. The wizard tried to transplant the essence of the angel into the Owlin body, but the essence of the Owlin remained. So now he has split personality. The fragment is a Divine Soul Sorcerer and the Owlin is a Hexblade, and the fragment is his patron. The fragment isn’t fully aware of his true nature yet, but once he finds out he’ll dip two levels of Paladin.
    Final build will be DSS 13/Hex 5/Pal 2

    What I really love about this build, as a DM that only gets to come back and play so much it’s extremely well rounded with the option to take divine soul sorcerer and have access to 4 classes spells. And you can play as a heavy armor healer and hold off the smiting and still be an amazing buff to your party. Especially if you take the protective fighting style.
    It’s probably the most fun I’ve had playing a healer on the front lines.

    That was a great video for helping me on my build choices - thanks!
    About to do a campaign and rolled 13,11,8,8, 17… so wanted to do a SAD built to work with the rolls.
    Have gone Dragonborne +2 str (to reach 15 for heavy armour) and +1 Cha for 18).
    Will do Paladin 2, warlock 2, paladin to level 6 (aura) and then sorceror for 5 levels where the campaign will roughly end.
    Given the limited feat options will likely drop +2 in charisma and then resilient Con (instead of warcaster) given my odd Con score.
    As a background I took rune shaper.
    Will stick with defence fighting style for the +1 AC and stick playing with the shield and spear/ sword….

    We should talk about the Bloodwell vial as an almost mandatory item/spellcasting focus for this build, as recharging sorcery points on a short rest is HUGE for it. With that, you pretty much don't even need to coffee lock it (although DM permitting, you still can).

    For the storm sorcerer subclass, to be able to use Tempestuous Magic (the 10 foot movement as a bonus action) wouldn't you still need to cast a first level spell or higher during turn for that feature to activate?
    Also he says you can get the improved pact weapon invocation at level 2 but to be able to take that invocation you need to be pact of the blade which unlocks at level 3.

      I actually just made a character with this concept in mind for an upcoming game.
      Starting paladin, going warlock and eventually becoming a sorcerer.
      People get hung up on the "holy warrior" aspect of paladin too much I think. An oath taken to pursue something unto and beyond supernatural boundaries can lead to MANY roads and has loads of flavor.
      For this dude, his Oath of Conquest is born of a desire to unite warring tribes through the only means they respect: Strength.
      Warlock dip comes from wanting/needing power beyond strength of arms. Eventually this unlocks a latent power, OR is gifted by the force he makes a pact with.
      😉 hope this inspires or helps 🍻

  • @nerfherder5211
    @nerfherder5211 2 года назад +4

    It is not hard to justify a holy knight making a pact with it's patron or god or perhaps the god's avatar on the material plane. A warlock has nothing to do with making a pact with satan. I dont understand why people make this mistake. It's like saying all men are rapists. They probably are not. Some might be and a common story is like that. But many warlocks have patron with good or neutral natured supernatural beings. The celestial warlock is a RAW proof of this if you needed this to reflavor or write a backstory. There is absolutely no need to justify picking warlock levels. Explain what your character is and what lead to the developments or work with the DM. Perhaps your god, or one of their underlings/avatars, granted you a magical weapon because they want you not to face the end of the world unarmed? seems reasonable.
    Improved Pact of the Blade is probably not a likely cause for a lvl 2 dip in warlock as it cannot be picked before level 3 as the requirement are as follows:
    Pact Weapon: Prerequisite: Pact of the blade feature
    While shadowblade is possible to use, you'd have to convince DM to allow it for GFB/BB but also you'd want to make it a pact weapon. Seems a waste with improved pact of the blade I guess.

    Conquest 7 for aura, but warlock 2 undead for form of dread. It has a great synergy with aura of conquest without eating into spell slots or concentration.
    The rest I'm considering sorcerer, probably divine soul but you have me thinking about shadow

  • @jemm113
    @jemm113 2 года назад +2

    Best flavor wins for doing this build: A Holy inquisitor/Templar blessed at birth bequeathed a magical sword by birthright gifted by a god or one of its servants as you swore an oath to lead a righteous crusade against evil! Divine soul + any good-feeling Paladin + hexblade (since it’s a single dip it’s your heavenly power damning the wicked for the hexblade curse)
    The other route is full-on evil or a dark knight chaotic good type:
    For evil go conquest(? The build justifies itself with its level 7 aura so mileage may vary) and for either evil or good/anti-hero go vengeance.
    Then for sorcerer either shadow or divine soul. Evil can take either with no problem since divine soul is characterized by your alignment determining looks and abilities.
    Chaotic good/anti-hero can also take either but may be more tempted based on concept. Anti-hero may prefer shadow outright to keep the dark theming on brand but chaotic good may be fine with divine soul no problem and will like the angelic wings clashing with the black armor and curses of the vengeance and hexblade going full-in on the dark knight archetype as the lawless vigilante knight that protects the weak and defenseless while giving the ruling class the finger.

    Booming Blade becomes better than GFB as soon as you get two attacks in almost all circumstances.

    • @Zeitler1
      @Zeitler1 Год назад

      @@SkullSplitter Well druid and cleric are both mostly depending on wisdom so we would pretty much have a SAD build. Subclasses are available at 1 level for clerics so with 1 or 2 levels in war domain we could either maximise our damage output with war priest and channel divinity: guided strike or become a really dangerous to hit tank with 1 or 2 levels in the tempest domain due to wrath of the storm and channel divinity: destructive wrath.
      If I understand these features correct they should be useable during wild shape and also rage.
      Also 1 to 3 levels in barbarian will always contribute to the moon cleric build as you already discussed in one of your videos.
      I understand that taking 4 to 5 levels in two different classes significantly slows down the druid progression and delays the access to the stronger moon Druid forms for quite a bit. But I think it might be quite strong if you either run a low-level campaign (till level 6 or 7) since level 6 would be our first cr 2 form anyway or a high-level campaign with 1-2 levels in cleric, 2-3 levels in barbarian, and 10 levels in druid to gain access to the elemental forms (so high level campaign starting at level 13-15)
