The wheel oscillation while going straight is caused by the wheel itself, and its moment of inertia carrying it through to the other side, triggering the ffb but in reverse, then heading to the original side where this process keeps repeating. To stop it from going on forever, a dampen multiplier can help. For example, on fanatec wheel bases, this the 'damping' setting
On weaker bases that is certainly true. I'd expect a 25 Nm base to be strong enough to stop the steering wheel from overshooting, though - these servo motors are used professionally in robotics, after all. I think it's because the BeamNg developers are targeting weaker bases like the Logitech G wheels.
@@bigredracingteam9642 it's not about the strength.. the problem is it is an oscilation / resonance ... it can't be 100% on time.. there is always a little delay ...and be it ever so slightly.. that combined with the inertia and maybe a few other thing.. this delay means it goes over the center.. realises gives force into the other direction ..overshoots it (because of the delay) ... gives force into the other direction and so on...so it gets into a resonance and starts to oscilate... the fact that direct drive wheels are less dampened by itself (rotate more freely then belt or gear driven wheels).. combined with the big strength.. make it worse... thats why a bit of software/driver dampening is mostly a good thing for directdrive wheels
To get some idea how much torque this wheel has, the recommended tightening value for bicycle wheel nuts is about 28 Nm which is about the same as max torque of this wheel! Imagine replacing the wheel with a custom head and using the DD force feedback to tighten your bicycle wheel nuts to the spec...
How to love how humble this guy is, he could of gone the opposite way but even though he has left the shed and races irl on camera we still see the good old Jimmer. I hope he stays the same and congrats on his double race win. congrats bro
Congratulations on the double win at Donny Jimmer! You deserved something after some of the disappointments during the season. Ok Munch carried you a bit but you had to do your best. Such a pity that Gem crashed out and brought her season to an early end, she deserved better too!
I just got my csl dd this week coming from a g25. Had a violent spin in the iracing lotus 79. The wheel grabbed my thumb and twisted my wrist pretty good. That’s only at 8nm, I couldn’t imagine what 20 feels like 😬
Crashing in beam with a G29 can already be surprising if you're not ready for it, I can't imagine this. More BeamNG content please! Iv'e done nothing but rally in it for the past months with the vivace rally gravel/asphalt, it's so much fun. These two cars alone are the best thing that ever happened to this game.
Got this wheelbase arriving today and BeamNG is my absolute favorite driving game when I’m not racing. Especially the very technical offroad challenges (climbing hills, muddy areas, etc) .. I wouldn’t dare try it at 100% but I bet it’s bliss as 12nm or so.
There's a reason why many off-road and rally drivers have a thumbs-out grip. (Having a full-round wheel can help in some cases too, can shift grip better than other shapes.)
The burning is probably dust on the motor. I get that with my Thrustmaster T300RS, because it goes a while without being used now and again. Dust collects on the belt and singes when I actually use it.
@@netcald991 those wheels can and will break your arms and fingers and the wheel won't give a single fuck while it does it. They can and will hurt you.

Came back to this video after seeing few other persons drive in BeamNG with wheel. While it shakes side to side it looks like your DD wheel needs some sort of damping setting/deadzone for FFB so that it does not trigger itself.
Damn I remember finding beamng videos in like 2013 and there were literally only like 5 videos mostly by one guy and none had commentary. Pretty excellent development for a small team
i once kept my head on my wheel while i was starting my pc, the wheel calibrated and clocked my jaw and i honestly think that BeamNG 100% force feedback is a deadly weapon
I play beam all the time and as soon as I saw this title, I knew I had to watch, if for no other reason than how the wheel goes side to side super hard on my damn logitech at idle or after a crash.
This really does depend on the wheel, man how much I'd love to have a DD wheel. My super old, even "retro" Logitech Momo, the only way I can play Beamng is with 100% FF.
More seriously, this shows there is a long way to go in the way FFB is used by games. The higher torque values should be used to convey rapid but short-duration changes such as road bumps and vibrations, whilst lower torque values should convey slow movements such as torque steer and damped suspension movements. Basically, fast bump, slow bump, fast rebound, slow rebound, torque steer, fast vibration, slow vibration. Modelled correctly, it should always be possible to set FFB on 100% without needing arms like Popeye. Indeed FFB percentages should not be a thing. Fanatec and Simucube take note! (Logitech and Thrustmaster - you do it, too!)
When offroading, advice is to keep your thumbs outside the wheel. It seems like you're basically driving these cars with failed power steering, and death wobble for the 4x4s. I have a little experience of driving a Vauxhall Zafira with failed power steering. With the caster 'newer' cars have (everything designed to pure have power steering) that's an extremely difficult task, especially at low speeds. Maybe this is why I was somewhat terrified watching this video. I don't know why I hit the like button. :) Maybe it's the consumer advice you offer.
Even with a wheel radius of 20cm (probably too much) and holding with one hand, that's the same as trying to hold a 12kg weight stationary while gravity wildly flips up and down and sometimes disappears.
