      @@aussieideasman8498 good job on missing the point again. He said $0 electricity, yes he would have to plan around it and yes he would have to pay for lodgings (obviously he isn't going to drive 70-80 hours straight). The point is $0 electricity. But let's just talk about making the trip normally, cause I do admit that waiting on the sun to charge the vehicle when you aren't able to find a free charger wouldnt be my preferred way of traveling across the states.
      Now a basic level 2 charger will charge a 100kwh battery (guessing here since they haven't released the exact battery size) in just over 8 hours. There are plenty of hotels with charging stations throughout America, so if you drive for 12 hours a day averaging 70mph you will have gone 840 miles (less than 1000 miles). So you could make the trip in the same amount of time as an ICE vehicle.
      The average car in the USA gets about 25 mpg, but lets be generous and bump that up the 35 mpg since it will be mostly highway driving. This will be 140 gallons of gas. And at the US average price of $3.50 per gallon that would be $490 in gas for the trip.
      The high cost of using a level 2 is $0.25 per kWh. With the aptera getting 10 miles per kWh this would be 490 kWh for the whole trip, or $123. You would save $367 in fuel cost over the trip, or in other words it would cost 4x as much money in fuel to make the trip in an ICE vehicle in the same amount of time.

      The two main forces slowing an EV down are drag and rolling resistance. The lower the drag is, the more important rolling resistance becomes to gain efficiency. On most evs you can already see a 0-10% drop in range with sticky tires bit with the aptera you can bet it'll be more like 10-20%. The testing looks promising. The only comment I would have is, it would seem that the handling of the beta test car would naturally be improved over the alpha because the beta car is stripped. For example, just the weight of the missing glass would influence the lateral forces as the car is thrown into corners. While I am sure the testing was valuable, a fully spec car would have different results on the skid pad, under braking, acceleration etc. I still can't wait to get my hands on one.

    • @n.brucenelson5920
      @n.brucenelson5920 2 года назад +4

      They have also added weight in the metal roll cage and other weights including the radiator to simulate battery weight and balance. I think the results will be very comparable to the final vehicle performance. They don't overlook such things

    • @ApteraMotors
      @ApteraMotors  2 года назад +2

      Thanks for the comment, Warren. But our Beta vehicles are crucial to our ramp to production and to test specific elements of the vehicle and the ride. They really serve to integrate production parts into our first development vehicles! We'll progress that through Gamma and Delta, and hopefully have a production intent vehicle design and begin ramping production in 2022. One of the biggest changes in the Beta series vehicles is the size. We've made it bigger, but we've also lowered the drag to make it more efficient. So there's no net increase in drag from the Alpha series vehicles. We've increased the headroom and the side space near the hip so it's going to feel more roomy inside. Through our Alpha phase of development, we found opportunities to optimize our stability, turning radius, and maneuverability. All of these things that we learned during the Alpha phase of development have resulted in improvements in our Beta design. You can learn more here: ruclips.net/video/sq5hjSnZ-8k/видео.html.

    Congratulations on your progress. The chassis looks more stable than one might expect from a three-wheeled vehicle. I'd like to see the numbers on lateral (turning) G's compared to other vehicles in the price or weight range. Also, I'm surprised to see such small wheels. I know wind resistance is the main energy consumer, but on rough surfaces, smaller wheels add noticeable drag. I've experimented with wheel size on a recumbent Catrike and found that even a modest increase in wheel diameter makes a significant improvement on a gravel bike trail. I know the Aptera is not designed to operate off-road, but rough surfaces are more and more common as road maintenance suffers from 21st-Century 'government.'

      Hi Frank! ☀️ Thank you! We look forward to sharing more results as we complete further testing. This Beta mule was specific to testing our suspension-- nothing with wheels. Although, we really aren't testing our Betas with drastically different wheels than production-ready vehicles.

      @@adimchionyenadum2962 It is a standard test to determine how well a vehicle can avoid a sudden obsticle in the road, like a moose, without losing control. The ISO double lane change mentioned in the video is a kind of moose test. The vehicle that can perform the maneuver at the highest speed without losing control, Wins. Vans, minivans; jeeps and any high clearance vehicle are usually terrible at it, tending to roll over at higher speeds. Sports cars usually do quite well at it.

      Those of us who have been paying attention for years are first in line. I will be taking delivery of the 42nd production model they make. I do know some people with early deliveries that might consider a large enough offer. You have to balance the advantage of owning an early model with the fact that the later production will be even better, with such things as reverse cycle heat that the supply chain can't supply for the first production vehicles.

    How does it respond the head on with an EV Hummer? 3 wheel vehicles don't have to meet car crash standards, correct?

    • @n.brucenelson5920
      @n.brucenelson5920 2 года назад

      Aptera is in a class where automotive crash tests are not required. They have still designed them to pass, with such safety features as front and rear crumple zones, seat belts, air bags, and an F1 style passenger safety cage. They will be voluntarily crash tested to part 200 crash test standards and the ra publtings ished before production shipping starts.

    How does it handle at high speed when the rear tire blows? Then both front tires/just 1 tire? I haven't heard anything about blowing that back tire at high speed/on a turn. Blow that back tire on a turn in the rain and blow the front right in the rain. Run over a metal spike or hit a deep pothole that rips the tire off the wheel and tell us what it does. That has happened to me on my 4 wheel cars, what happens on a 3?

    It'd be a better video if it provides performance relative to an existing vehicle and in quantitative terms, such as the max G-force. The Aptera is very front heavy and has only one wheel in the back for traction, one would expect the Aptera to have significant oversteer issues on sharp corners.
