I think that Double Toasted misunderstand the criticism people have for "strong female characters" like Rey. The problem isn't the fact that the character is female, it's the fact that they write the character terribly but they want to insist that they're strong, so they make them a badass. Sometimes writers give their characters way too much power for what they're worth. In the case of Rey, we have to accept the fact that she's just amazing at everything she does. She makes it through any challenge without a scratch and gains all the attributes a hero would hold for free. She doesn't even have a motivation for fighting with the resistance, she just kind of goes along on a journey for the sake of it. That's just cheap, it makes for a bad character and a unrelateable protagonist. Let's compare this with Serah Connor from T2, a character who faces hardships, failure and growth. Based on the events of the first film, it's only natural that Serah Connor would be a changed person and would train to protect her son as she knows how important he is. But even though she is trained, even then she has her limits, she doesn't succeed in every situation, she isn't overpowered to the point of absurdity. Serah Connor is a prime example of an ACTUAL strong female character. So yeah, people who are fans of Terminator and Serah Connor as a character are going to be pissed off by this film. But it has nothing to do with the fact that the characters are women, it has everything to do with the shit writing.
Massive Phaggot DT don't really understand nuance or deal in truth. When people dislike a movie it's because they're sexist/racist pieces of shit and not because the movie is absolute garbage that has no reason to exist.
@@animeting69 yeah, I just wish they had a better take on certain things. It sucks cause I think they're all quite funny and their reviews can be insightful
Massive Phaggot they have a very surface level knowledge of current events and social issues which hurts any analyses they bring to the table. A combination of taking news headlines (and only news headlines lol) at face value as well as their own biases really lowers enjoyment of their content. DT are great when they're tearing into a crappy movie, informing the audience about an undiscovered gem, breaking down why a film does or doesn't work, disagreeing on whether a movie is a fuck you or low rental or making fun of a (harmless) viral video. The problem is that DT feel obligated to use their platform to solve all of society's problems when they're not well informed and don't have any solutions to solve said problems. The two faces of DT are two successful African Americans. They could help inspire countless youth and prevent them from becoming another statistic. Stats something DT pretend dont exist because it's inconvenient I guess haha. Yet, what they choose to do is blame whitey for all of the worlds ills and shut down any productive dialogue with "you're racist/sexist if you feel that way" Theyd probably be far more successful if they stuck to movies and "foolishness" (you know like spill back in the day) than trying to be Malcolm X but it's their platform they can do what ever the hell they want lol.
@@animeting69 Not gonna lie, what you spoke about was what got me to unsubscribe from the channel. Not because of anyone's political opinion or the channel's overall stance on certain issues (it is their platform and they can do as they please with it) but it does seem that they tend to look at these said issues in the worst possible way. It comes across as if they dont even want to discuss these topics, they just want you to think that they're right and move on. It gets even worse when these topics start appearing in the movie reviews themselves. I remember watching their review for the third Maze Runner film where they were criticising the film for having "Trump references". This was based off nothing except the fact that there is a city in the film that is surrounded by a wall that's run by the bad guys and keeps all of the poor people out. Imagine watching that review 50 years from now, do you really think people at that point are going to give a shit about Trump? It's just so stupid to make something like that a legitimate criticism. So now I'll probably check out a review of theirs every so often but man, I dont think I'll be re-subscribing anytime soon. Ah well
Like Alien/Aliens, the Terminator franchise just won't stop even though nobody can recapture what made the first two movies work. Honestly, I still blame James Cameron for wanting to pursue unneeded Space Fern Gully sequels instead of saving his franchises.
Its Halloween, I'm feeling good, my nephew and baby brother got their Halloween costumes ready to go. What can possibly make this day even better. Double Toasted reviews Terminator: Dark Fate Now my day is 10,000 times more better lol.
I know its an old video, but what made the T-1000 from T2 so memorable, was that cold ass stare with those blue eyes. You talk about iconic looks and man, that face of Robert Patrick is seared into memories as much as Arnolds.
WTF are yall talking bout - the original terminator 1-2 had the strongest female ever - people dont like this cause they replaced the badass scar face john conner with a 4ft tall mexican girl
There will never be another good Terminator film, I've given up hope at this point. As far as I'm concerned the Terminator Saga ended with Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
I thought Alien 3 was good and equal to the first 2 films. Rise of the machines wasn't extraordinary but I can watch it. I don't know why you nerds cry everytime a sequel comes out. I just move on to something else.
@@Devilsblood I get the feeling that they just don't know what to do with them. Also what was frustrating about Alien 3 was that it had great parts but also bad parts as well. It was trying too hard to be deep but it came out a mess. As for Terminator 3, it felt goofy and the characters were annoying.
I know this is an overused phrase but Dark Fate was a slap in the face to this series. There's a whole myriad of bad decisions that make this movie only slightly better than Genysis. While I definitely agree that the first 2 minutes of the film was the biggest middle finger to Terminator 2, I also think the way they handled Carl was too. *(SPOILERS, I GUESS?)* One of the most poetic lines in T2 happens near the end of the movie. After our trio destroys both the T-1000 and the remnants of the 1984 T-800, The Terminator realizes in order to destroy Skynet for sure, he must be destroyed and asks Sarah to lower him into the molten steel. John, despite knowing he's right, tearfully orders him not to go through with it. "Uncle Bob" then wipes away a tear and says, "I know now why you cry, but it is something I could never do." This is a beautiful line because it does two things. The first is to show that the Terminator has done something that both Skynet and humanity thought was impossible, it learned the importance of human life. The second is that it show that despite learning value of humanity, he was still a machine. Machines cannot feel emotions and therefore Uncle Bob could never be human. Fast forward to Dark Fate and we have "Carl." After successfully terminating John Connor (and effectively ruining the importance of the first two movies), instead of doing something you'd expect a Terminator to do like hunkering down and waiting to rejoin the war, hunting down other future resistance leaders, or ensuring the safe creation of Skynet, it is left to its own device and develops a conscience. It calls itself Carl, it opens its own drapery business, it adopts a family and a dog (that weirdly doesn't go apeshit when he's nearby), and grows to regret his past mission. Carl effectively becomes human... so Uncle Bob didn't have to die, did he? It would have been difficult due to the injuries he sustained from the T-1000, sure, but he theoretically could have spent the rest of his battery life becoming more human and adapting to his surrogate family, couldn't he?
I'm not really surprised by the ratings. When Terminator 2 came out in theaters, that was our Avengers and Schwarzenegger was our comic book superhero at the time. Schwarzenegger was an event and I'm not kidding either. Now the times have changed and this terminator sequel isn't matching T2 because we all had goosebumps when we would see the trailers on TV.
Oh my freaking goodness. I just watched this film last night and it was through this review that I just found out that that was her brother and not her boyfriend. smh.
As far as I'm concerned, the only true T3 is "The Sarah Connor Chronicles". Wish they finished that series off right. That cliffhanger ending opened up some doors, most def.
So much potential in that story. You are so right. Only nitpick with that show is having the good terminator using Glock handguns instead of something with more punch.
@@AgamemnonCaptain HAHA! That actually bugged me too back in the day. But yeah, none of the subsequent films after T2 left a good impression with me. "Sarah Connor Chronicles" had its flaws, but overall, they introduced some really cool ideas and story beats, that really would've taken the "Terminator" franchise to different places, story-wise. The ending in the future, and the possibility of Miles Dyson's son possibly being a potential player? So much good shit. My favorite scene in the series is still Derek taking John to the park for his birthday. That was well-done.
Agreed! 100 percent! The idea of some gray areas existing in the Skynet war was great! A T-1000 doing some good in the timeline, fighting Skynet in its own brutal way? I loved it. The T-1000 acting as the mother of a young girl after taking the mom’s place? Loved all the suspense and action. The way John and Sarah were having to live? Good stuff. Didn’t think the 90210 actor as another Reese would turn out well but they proved me wrong. He was convincing as Kyle Reese’s brother. Maybe one day it will all be continued properly.
@@AgamemnonCaptain I was super skeptical about the Derek Reese, just as a concept. But he really was the breakout character of the series, along with Cameron... just the questioning of her programming. I always hoped one day they would continue the story in some capacity. So many good ideas. The idea of building a storyline around the idea that there were members of the resistance, who straight up detested the fact John would even use metal for their own cause. Shit, i'd argue that sitting thru the series is even harder than sitting thru T3-Genysis.... because i can't stand the fact that "SCC" didn't get a proper conclusion. Ugh.
So where was that 2nd evil Arnie Terminator when the T-1000 was lurking about? Or did he appear shortly after the events of T2 before the future changed?
"Come with me if you want to live." Blam💥 Blam💥 Never mind. For a character that's spent years protecting John from the Terminator's, Sarah has a very lazy attitude to keeping an eye on the surrounding area of the beach bar.
"If you don't like women..." Stop. This is Terminator. Sarah was a huge part of the franchise from the beginning and fans love her. What people hate is ham fisted fake "girl power" for the sake of feminism that distracts from or is a substitute for a good story. And you know that
The reason why Jim Cameron hasbt been bothered to be involved in any recent Terminator movie is because deep down he knows the TRUTH. That the story is done! Theres nothing left to explore really. All there is is just the future war to tell and lead up to where we start in the original Terminator movie, bring everything full circle. Either that or future is changed and John Connor brings about somekind of resolution between Humanity and the Machines.
They could off made this into an HBO styled TV series, connect the S.Connor cronicles and advance into the future war, but noooo, they have to cramm it into 2 h's like theres a bloody rush instead of taking your time and build up your world, your characters and let the story play out.
5:17 That sounded so unbelievably ignorant and out of touch Kory 😂 Yeah, people hated TLJ because there wasn't enough penis.. yep, it didn't have anything to do with them spitting in the face of _Luke Skywalker one of the greatest protagonists of all time_ or something silly like that..
If you're a fan of action movies it's a good time. If you're a fan of the lore you might be pissed. I'm a bit mixed tbh. I enjoyed it, but it felt pointless as it didn't progress the story. In fact it did the opposite.
Linda Hamilton was the best thing but yeah its a story with no surprises, just has a high kill count. I actually think Terminator Salvation is a really good prequel/sequel.
The movie was pretty good. The space time continuum shifted when John Conor is killed. Judgement Day is inevitable and can’t be avoided. Even if the original savior of mankind is killed the human spirit will fight on in another. I can appreciate the movie for what it is... a popcorn 🍿 thrill ride.
@Love Smite it’s a shame because we never saw him in the first Terminator, but it was established how important he was to humanity, to Reese, and to Sarah in the end.
This outrage over the pretend issue of misogyny in movie heroes is tiresome. The heroes of T1, T2, Alien, Silence of the Lambs, Fury Road, Wonder Woman, etc., are women. No one has a problem with these great characters. People just want a solid script / story with well written characters.
The difference is that back then the female protags stood on their own and weren't a part of the advertisements saying "HEY WE HAVE A FEMALE IN THIS MOVIE!!!!". Nobody was thinking about a battle of the sexes with Ripley and Sarah back then. The characters felt natural and the movies weren't bogged down with politics.
Listen and understand that Hollywood is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity or remorse or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until this series is dead.
How cool would it have been if in the beginning Arnold's Terminator killed John, only to reveal that Sarah's son had bee replaced with a Terminator hours before. The film could have gone the Taken Route while showing John work his way back to her as well, showing what she's taught him since T2.
only real question i have is, will it knock sarah conner chronicles out of place as my preferred timeline/canon? i mean im gonna see it anyway, but if it isnt gonna replace SCC as my preferred timeline/canon wtf are the studio even doing
@@PharoahsKingdom it is to me and many others... picks up after 2, deletes 3 and was actually meant to setup salvation... while incorporating character elements from both 2 and 3 and there is so much future war background provided for salvation... it was made by ppl who actually cared about the franchise and it shows but they basically ended up ignoring most of the shit anyway, which sucked... still works as a sufficient bridge between 2 and salvation on binges though... if you ignore things like johns-kyles age difference in last scene of SCC... but until something else comes along to advance the story thats my timeline T1,T2, SCC, salvation
"If you're not xenophobic" Someone tell Corey Arnies from Austria. By the way only the original was about Sarah Connor, and Kyle Reese and The Terminator. The sequel was John's story. Never heard so much bull about pushing this agenda about Sarah Connor, it being 'her' story. She was just a plot device in the original. The Terminator to me is about John Connor, The Terminator and the impending future war. There's a reason why Arnold was on both posters of Terminator 1 and 2, he has and always has been the star. . I watch The Terminator for The Terminator, not Sarah Connor. I couldnt give a flying fuck if I never seen Sarah Connor again. Fed up of the term 'badass' too. It doesn't give me a hard on or mean the characters are good or interesting.
Unpopular opinion, but I really like Terminator 3. After T2, it was the only movie that told an actual chapter in the story as laid out in the first film. It had a few beats that were a bit too cheeky, but there was so much I loved about it... Nick Stahl was a great John Connor, really scrappy and nihilistic, just a burnt out guy in self-preservation mode. He had a real tortured chemistry with Claire Danes, and she was really a great bridge for him becoming leader of the resistance. They did a great job of explaining how Judgement Day happens anyway, in light of the internet coming into its own since the previous film. Seeing things collapse around them was truly chilling dramatic device... things that don't seem important at first (credit card machines not working) to the eventual collapse of the Pentagon. It's almost like that first zombie slowly approaching in Romero's Night of the Living Dead. The fights and stunt set-pieces were superb. and memorable-- the particle accelerator, the crane truck, even the bathroom stalls... and it was mostly practical effects. And the fact it had the balls to not only go through with Judgement Day, but also to end the film on that note... it's an ending that sticks with me like very few others.
Yes Terminator 3 was actually good!! I watch that one a good deal...it's not a Trainwreck like Salvation or Genysis..I don't know why people don't like it
PUSHA THANOS first off it won’t be on Netflix or Hulu. Second, this future setting you speak of was all of 5 minutes of T1,2 and 3. Go see dark fate bro. It’s nowhere NEAR as bad as some are making it seem
If you think Terminator dark fate was not going to be a bad movie then you're the same kind of person who thinks the Last Jedi and Game of Thrones season 8 were great and think that Tommy Wiseau the room was a good serious drama
Dude, I don't know what movie YOU saw, but Linda Hamilton was fucking AWFUL in this movie. Her line delivery is terrible in every God Damn scene. Mackenzie Davis was not good either but at least she could delivery believable lines. And YES, this is a female empowerment movie. Think about it: They kill off John Connor immediately in the film. And the new Sarah Connor is not the mother of the future hero...she IS the future hero. Because it's 2019 Hollywood and we can't have men be stronger than women in films anymore. No, that won't sell tickets to women now will it.

I enjoyed the movie. Wasn't ground breaking, but it was still quite enjoyable. The actions scenes were good. The interaction between characters were good. There is a reason why the enhanced woman was snippy towards Sarah. If you think about the character, her mission, and what she believed in as well as the end.
It's not female empowerment I have a problem with, it's lack of femininity I have the problem with. Charlie's Angels(not the new one) was all about female empowerment but didn't compromise its femininity. They were actual GIRLS who KICKED ASS. Something today's female action led movies and TV lack.

Yet, what they choose to do is blame whitey for all of the worlds ills and shut down any productive dialogue with "you're racist/sexist if you feel that way"
Theyd probably be far more successful if they stuck to movies and "foolishness" (you know like spill back in the day) than trying to be Malcolm X but it's their platform they can do what ever the hell they want lol.
Ah well
I knew this would bomb as soon as they forced the characters into Gears 5.
I actually like the Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Me too, and it ended on a cliffhanger so much so, that no season 3 is something I still haven't got over.
Like Alien/Aliens, the Terminator franchise just won't stop even though nobody can recapture what made the first two movies work. Honestly, I still blame James Cameron for wanting to pursue unneeded Space Fern Gully sequels instead of saving his franchises.
Same with Jurassic Park franchise and the predator franchise.

Lmaooooo pretty much. Society is so weird now a days. T1 T2 are masterpiece

Disney and Fox will get Terminator from Paramount.
Predator too
There is only those two franchises with their two films. No idea what you're talking about.
As for Terminator 3, it felt goofy and the characters were annoying.
jurassic park and terminator in the 90s: were going to use CGI *only* where absolutely necessary
2010s: good one bro
Arnold and Linda are the best thing about the Terminator Franchise Point, Blank, Period.
*(SPOILERS, I GUESS?)*
One of the most poetic lines in T2 happens near the end of the movie.
James Cameron now wants to screw around with the Blue People rather than give us a proper third Terminator.
Can you imagine if he gave us a third and finished the trilogy!!?! : T:3 post judgment day
I'm not really surprised by the ratings.
*At this point the Terminator movies are starting to act like the DJ Khaled of films: we get Another One, and Another One, and Another One... 😏*

I agree.
Ugh.

Terminator has always been a female led story. We also had female terminators. People just tired of the repeats. This is just another terminator 3.
So where was that 2nd evil Arnie Terminator when the T-1000 was lurking about? Or did he appear shortly after the events of T2 before the future changed?
I don't object to woman playing the heroic lead, but there's a big difference between Linda Hamilton in T1 and the Mary Sue type rolls of today.

Never mind.

5:17 That sounded so unbelievably ignorant and out of touch Kory 😂
Yeah, people hated TLJ because there wasn't enough penis.. yep, it didn't have anything to do with them spitting in the face of _Luke Skywalker one of the greatest protagonists of all time_ or something silly like that..

If you're a fan of action movies it's a good time. If you're a fan of the lore you might be pissed. I'm a bit mixed tbh. I enjoyed it, but it felt pointless as it didn't progress the story. In fact it did the opposite.
Best movie reviews ever. I love this channel so much. Keep it up and never sell out.
T-800: "Oh, my knees!"
I'm fine with T6 sticking with the classic formula. T4 had no time travel AT ALL and T5 turned into something wacky, so a return to form was in order.
The entire time watching Dark Fate (which I hated) all I wanted was a Gabe Luna Ghost Ride movie
Linda Hamilton was the best thing but yeah its a story with no surprises, just has a high kill count.
I actually think Terminator Salvation is a really good prequel/sequel.
beginning of this movie, wtf smh
Anyone know the idea Korey mentioned of a future movie?
i just went back, an watched yall review on terminator salvation on the spill, yall gave that a full price
I wanna say thanks to all these reviews for letting me realize I made a smart decision by not seeing this movie
I love you guys. No lie... You make me happy 😂

Can't help feeling if Edward Furlong had his shit together, we may have gotten a different script/film.
logan smith I heard he was getting better and getting into shape for this movie. I guess the writers changed their mind.
😂
it was always about sarah connor. Except it no longer is.shes just a baby sitter at this point.
At this point the only true terminator 3 is the sarah connor chronicles it was actually the first terminator thing i saw before t1 and t2.
Even four years later, “El Terminado” still cracks me up.
How cool would it have been if in the beginning Arnold's Terminator killed John, only to reveal that Sarah's son had bee replaced with a Terminator hours before. The film could have gone the Taken Route while showing John work his way back to her as well, showing what she's taught him since T2.
It's Hollywood beating a dead horse over and over again.
Exactly
And over and over and over again
again it relies on special effects and action scenes. at least this one is watchable
I maychave found my favorite RUclips channel, you guys are good

i mean im gonna see it anyway, but if it isnt gonna replace SCC as my preferred timeline/canon wtf are the studio even doing
Irrefutable Matt Sarah Conner Chronicles was never connected to the films
@@PharoahsKingdom it is to me and many others... picks up after 2, deletes 3 and was actually meant to setup salvation... while incorporating character elements from both 2 and 3 and there is so much future war background provided for salvation... it was made by ppl who actually cared about the franchise and it shows
but they basically ended up ignoring most of the shit anyway, which sucked... still works as a sufficient bridge between 2 and salvation on binges though... if you ignore things like johns-kyles age difference in last scene of SCC... but until something else comes along to advance the story thats my timeline T1,T2, SCC, salvation
I agree with Martin's opinions 100%
I'm surprised they didn't title this Terminator Resurrection.
They could always save that for the inevitable reboot in ten years.
They should terminate this franchise.
I watch that one a good deal...it's not a Trainwreck like Salvation or Genysis..I don't know why people don't like it
T3 is great
I'll probably catch it on Netflix or hulu in a year

PUSHA THANOS first off it won’t be on Netflix or Hulu. Second, this future setting you speak of was all of 5 minutes of T1,2 and 3. Go see dark fate bro. It’s nowhere NEAR as bad as some are making it seem
