I love that you bring these lesser known stories to light - not the same ones that the true crime industry churns out - and allow these people who might otherwise be resigned to the footnotes of history to be remembered again, if only for a little while.
I love Paul and the whole Well I Never channel. By the by I came to hear the Red Mini Murder on his channel which took place in my home town. When I mentioned it to my family turns out the 2nd man in the case Eric is my great uncle. Enough to say we don't talk about him in our family.
Mr Light said he didn't have any tools to fix Bella's bike. He also said he had mended and reinflated the tire on his own bike while he was waiting for her. Did he have tools or not?
She mailed a letter to her fiancé right before she was murdered. Imagine receiving that letter afterwards? It’s so sad and tragic but hopefully she was able to tell him one more time in writing that she loved him 😢
Light clearly murdered her. No one is going to ditch their bike unless they're guilty and who goes for a bike ride with a weapon? He was prowling. Wonderful presentation. Thanks a bunch.
It must have been a poor community because otherwise, I would expect friends and family to collect enough to give her at least a modest headstone when she was buried.
It sounds like Light killed Bella. We can only wonder why, and we'll never know if his suffering from "shell shock" (PTSD) had something to do with it. However, his excuses as presented by his lawyer, tell me it's likely he was just a simple murderer.
I've heard about this case before, and I believe Light murdered Bella and got away with it. It's too bad that the jury didn't hear about the unsavory aspects of Light's past. If they had, I think he would have been convicted
I,ve read about this case before. If he didn't kill her, then why get rid of the bicycle ,gun etc.? Have to look up more on Light.Wouldnt surprise me if he didn't shoot Bella.Maybe he made sexual advances to her.
@@claresmith9261 An accused's past is almost always brought up in court. So is the past of the victim. To have the jury hear absolutely nothing of this man's past is odd. Either the prosecution failed to bring it, or the judge suppressed it, for some reason. I haven't been able to find out what happened. Maybe it's lost to time.
Mr. Brodie, I would like to make a video request if you please. I recently read about the murder of the actor William Terris by fellow actor Richard Prince, who was jealous of him. It happened in the 19th century. It's quite an interesting story. I have not found any good videos about the story and I think you would tell it to perfection. I hope you like this idea I love your channel. Much love from Brazil 🇧🇷❤️
I watch your videos every night to "fall asleep", but i end up so intrigued in the tales and crimes. You're such an amazing story teller sometimes I get loads in them ❤❤
Marshall-Hall the defence lawyer was a master of rhetoric who convinced many juries that reasonable doubt existed, cor blimey the number of right wrong un's he got accquited was mad. He represented some nasty serial killers of the time & thankfully lost them cases. Marshall-Hall appears in many early 20th century cases which are considered infamous now a century later.

Well, I Never, I enjoy your channel from across the pond in America. Always fascinating to hear many cases that were previously unknown to me. Thanks for giving the deceased in these sad murder cases a voice. It's important. Glad too that Bella finally got her headstone. Thanks for the upload! ❤
I wonder what Light's assumed name was after his acquittal? I can't imagine that someone like that would have suddenly changed his ways and lived clean for the rest of his life.
Forensics have come so far. Maybe if Scotland Yard saved the bullets, etc, the case may still one day get solved. It won't help Bella or her immediate family, but it will put things right.
Very nice presentation, and I like that you dressed the part! This story seems to fall somewhere between a Conan Doyle Sherlock Holmes tale and an episode of Grantchester. Living in a large City in the U.S., I find it amazing that there have been so many murders in small rural towns in England. I'll have to check back for more of your videos, as I'm a murder mystery fan from way back.
I so very much enjoy listening to you as you tell your tales with your Soft soothing Scotsman’s voice and use of the wonderful kings English! I know I will always have a good nights sleep after listening to you. Thank you so very much.❤🤗🌟
I’ve heard this story before. You bring it to life though. Thank you for sharing all these tales. Keep up the wonderful work. You are an amazing host! 😊
Very interesting. I knew about this case because I was brought up in the same area of Gartree Road. As a young boy in the 1960s, I often rode my bicycle along Gartree Road to the village of Stoughton, (actually it's pronounced 'stoaton' not 'stowton').
Here's what really happened -- Ronald Light "tried it on" with Bella. She rebuffed him in an appropriate manner and he feigned a chivalrous apology, thus recouping her trust. Not knowing what to do when she found him still waiting, she continued on with him and he took his hidden rage-revenge on her. This is my belief. We'll never know, but God knows.
Light was a true weirdo, a stalker. But I doubt he murdered Bella - the angle of the shot was too unrealistic for an attack - does anyone really believe that Light deliberately fired from below so that the bullet came out the top of her head?. I suspect he produced the pistol and was showing off with it in front of Bella when it went off and the bullet ricocheted off the road, travelled upwards and into Bella's face. Light then panicked, as did anyone else (a young boy?) who was nearby shooting at rooks (though not with a .445 rifle!). And if Light's 'confession' is real, it fits my scenario rather well. He could (and I think should) have been convicted of manslaughter, but never murder.
@@pabmusic1 Thanks for your input. We'll never know. I agree your theory is a really plausible and a good one, but now that you describe it, I have to wonder if he had produced the pistol for some other reason than just to merely show it off and then it mis-fired. I'll continue to contemplate all that you wrote.
Bella's untimely end greatly reminds me of the case of Kyllikki Saari, an infamous murder case from my home country Finland. Her bike was found poorly hidden in a swamp, not too far from her body's location. If I remember right, one supposed explanation for Kyllikki's death was also a biking accident. The case is full of mystery and brow raisers. Kyllikki was a mindful and religious young woman, she was cycling from her friend's house but she never made it back to her home. I mourn her each day and hope her soul has found peace, Bella will also be in my thoughts. May she find peace
