- Raisina Dialogue 2024 | The Democracy Divide: Universal Norms & Local Practices | There are various global headwinds facing the democratic system. These include the rise of authoritarianism, disruptive technologies, populism, fake news - and the notion among voters that democracy is failing ordinary citizens. Consequently, democracy must be reclaimed bottom-up to make it locally relevant and grounded, while still retaining its fundamental attributes of rule of law, separation of powers, and popular sovereignty. While democracy is a universal norm, its contextual application is a prerequisite for its success.
How can democracy be made real and attractive in diverse and digital societies?
How can differences in existing democratic practices be reconciled and respected across geographies?
How can cultural moorings continue to underpin democratic structures and the delivery of political rights across the world?
In a hyper-globalised world, can we prevent the weaponisation of differences in the administration of democracy by state and non-state actors?

Thank you Nigeria for bringing up the manipulation from the outside that dictates Africa.
Interesting discussion..Good points raised by Sanjay Sanyalda again and again.
Brilliant points by Sanjeev Sanyal. These reports are very subjective, riddled with inaccuracies.
One of the best debate i have ever seen 😮. The global South countries destroyed the global north country 🫠
This shows the unity of the global South countries
We don't have organisation like nato and G7 but we are emotionally connected to each other
I love these conversations where India puts its mind and thought without any fear of any sort of judgements by the western world...
The democeacy rating institutions should be democratised first to have respectability and relevance
What Tony abbot said at the end really says that he can’t get his head around the saying what is good for the goose is good for the gander. The representative from a Nigeria was both sharp and eloquent.
Love you Nigeria, for saying we as Africans should go observe elections!!!
India has so many Nigerian nations from Calcata to Sri Lanka. Blacks love to talk loud and a lot 😅😅😅😅😅😅
@@breezeanonymous6034 That is rather shallow. You have no idea what you are talking about. "Blacks love to talk loud and a lot" Really?
I love Ayoade!!
The current day "democracy" as defined by the West, is just power.
India largest and most diverse country. But to have so much democracy it is a real challenges.
Nice conversation.
Constructive feedback: It's crucial for the audience to have a clear view of the panelists during such insightful discussions. Unfortunately, the camera placement in this video was not optimal, leading to frequent obstructions by the audience members' heads. For future events, it might be beneficial to consider a professional camera crew that can ensure an unobstructed and engaging viewing experience. Investing in quality production will enhance the overall impact of these valuable conversations.
Ohh man , amazing conversation
Tony Abbott is too good i think everybody brought very very interesting points..
This conversation is incomplete without the Legend, Savatore Babones
I really wish, these distinguished experts were given more time to have there say.
They as well as we were actually enjoying this conversation.
Thumbs up for Ayoade Alakija.. She makes so many points I could totally agree with and resonates completely with our opinions on the 'North Atlantic' democracy champions.
Sanjeev Sanyal sir op 🔥🔥🔥
Awesome Discussion, Thank You
Three cheers for Ayoade Alakija, such a strong and clear voice.
I love the way Mr. Tony Abbott stopped the refugee boats to Australia.
Was waiting for this for long bcz of sanyal.
I would love to see a one on one debate between Ayoade Alakija and Tony Abbott
Probably should've had a longer time slot for this discussion. Was getting difficult for Palki to moderate.
Camera job was very poor for such a brilliant discussion! 😔
True .Camera Work is more than Disappointing.
❤✌🇮🇳😎
Impressed by the Iraqi and Nigerian diplomats, intelligent points.
Cultural difference is a challenge for others to judge ,hence only the basics are to be the parameters।
Nigerian lady just 🔥
Bharat should hire Mr. Tony Abbott as "Illegal Immigration advisor" to stop and clean up illegal Rohingya jehadi flooding Bharat.
Palki, 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💐‼️ May be, we should elect AI to run the country! Transparent democracy may be the ‘necessary evil’, we may vote for! Democracy rating agencies are not democratic or transparent themselves and their verdict should find the proper place in a dust bin! Nigeria, you sent the best person for debate, she called ‘a spade, a spade’ and also yelled that ‘the emperor has no clothes’! 👏🏼👏🏼💐‼️
Yhe toxic Think Tanks in North America and Western Europe have been called out and the need for parallel Think Tanks who rate the ratung countries.
USA not digest India growth
interesting conversation but would have been better if there was someone from a Scandinavian country or european country like germany that jumps on the 'india is not a democracy' bandwagon
there should constructive criticism on indian democracy as one main important part is judiciary today indian judiciary is struggling due to amount of cases if person does not get justice at the right how it is effective democracy . today enforcement of contracts is taking years. police reforms as is indian police equipped to take on challenges which India is facing we also needed very well equipped police not in physical domain but cyber domain if these two reforms will be initiated it will great help to indian democracy but india is mother of democracy it is one of best but these reforms will improve it
Any rating institutions originating from USA, Germany, and their crony countries should be treated just as toilet papers.
Itnis fine global south should simply ignore any such ratings and move ahead with trust in India
there was a great need for these discussions and global south must show the mirror to the west. For too long the western countries are gaming the system to enrich themselves and this must end.
😮
Who decides better politicians to be elected,
Singapore is corporate country, a police state and every aspect of life is controlled!
Since the time when Europe's efforts of finding sea routes for trade with India turned into colonisation, the West has enormously profited and grown wealthy by looting the wealth of their colonies and exploiting their natural resources. India was by that time far advanced in Knowledge systems, economy, manufacturing and trade and was the second wealthiest country after China. (It was the wealthiest country since ancient times till the islamic invasions wrecked havoc with it's population, tore apart it's social fabric and destroyed it). The West has gotten accustomed to a wealthy lifestyle and a life of plenty and pleasure at the expense of the former colonies, and has sought to retain it's dominance and hold on their resources through it's technological, economic and military might, and also through the soft power of education, entertainment and fashion, and sports. Ethics and morals have never played any role in the West's dealings since the days of colonisation and after. All their financial institutions, international bodies, universities, think tanks etc. function in concert and with their governments to continue this dominance. Any change towards a more just and equitable world order will directly affect the luxurious and comfy lifestyle of the powerful elites in western societies, and therefore they will resist any meaningful and substantial changes to the current operating arrangements.
The Iraqi interlocutor is the most brilliant
followed by India's
The one member of that cabal is sitting beside you, Sanjeev Sir
Exactly 💯
And everyone knew. We could see him getting anxious as other criticized west's hypocritical policing and their hands in failure of other governments.
Ayoade Alakija and Sanjeev Sanyyal both eat 10 Tony Abbotts for breakfast.
shaadi ka hall wala chairs 😂
these Indian thinktank ORF has really cheap
An exercise in futility.
Tony is such a west's Tommy.
When the world is recognizing and Keeping INDIA as the LARGEST DEMOCRACY of the word;
India; has to follow every LAW as per Constitution;
freedom of speech;
freedom of religion;
Voting rights; etc.
so We are most advanced nation; as being the MODEL OF DEMOCRACY of the world;
Of the people; by the people for the people.
You are main thing is economy see USA if you leave lot of freedom of speech you will have 72 genders and poops no cloth people moving around fuck such kind of democracy democracy means break bones if they do wrong 😊
Yes and stopping foreign interference, stopping forced conversions and harvesting of souls by global religious machines and prot3cting indeginious enthic groups are part of that democracuy which is what majority of voters are voting instead of teying to subvert it by external mechanisms, and shouting foul is not going to work
Red jacket lady talking a lot of fluff
Thought the same thing..
The usual Democratic Party, neo liberal talking points
Wonderful video❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Abbot was a glad sight here.
Ambani outfit
Indian democracy is a bulldozer.😢
Only rice bags think so😂
How? Bulldozers get to vote now?
@@akhilghag5898 Pigs also think so bro
Anything that criticises India is either a scam or a conspiracy. This itself proves how intolerant and insecure are we as a nation? Listening or Ignoring are other available tools over shouting and defending/offending.
Wasn't India just listening to many baseless accusations for such a long time. Every nation should have a threshold to bullsh!t.
It is not criticism if india is being ranked below 100. It is just absurd.
At this very moment, people of LADAKH, the Northen most region of INDIA, world's largest and proudest democracy, are protesting in a hunger strike for their DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS !
And that's what democracies allow. That's how democracies function. Right to protest, try to do that in a theocratic state (like an Islamic state) , and you would be bludgeoned.
Apart from the fact that Modi is trying to undermine democracy and the free press in India...
Lol
Are you Indian?
Indian democracy is better than american democracy so far!
Bullshit. India is a Hindu democracy. It has to function on Hindu ethos, and this is the original culture of the land.
It is a land of Dharma, hence Dharmic secular values.
The Radical Left of India is anti-national, corrupt and inhumane towards the indigenous population of the land, aka Hindus.
Mr.Propaganda spotted 😂
ORF completely funded by Reliance once upon a time, still makes sure that Government must be praised at all costs.
What if better politicians are not available in adequate numbers or not ready to come forward because of messy politics all around and need of money to fight elections.
Is that guy the former pm of Australia
He is an advocate for those hereditary stupid monarch coz he gets paid for those
The Queen doesn't have any power over Australia. It's just for name
@@noneoftheabove666 Most of Australian population is not native population.
@@0xsunil Yeah, that's the same case for most of the world. A lot of migration has happened in the world over millenia, including in India.
You think the Australian Aborigines just popped up from the sky on the Australian Island on a certain day?
