Vince Gill is a pure treasure for all us country fans! He tells such wonderful story songs and sings that sweet tenor voice and so fantastic with his great guitar playing and I will always love him!❤❤❤❤
One of the best cd's Vince ever released, imo! It amazing to think that it was only in early 1999 that classic country sounding songs like this could still get on the radio. This song always takes me right back to that time.
I love this song. As soon as this came out and I went and bought two copies one for me and one for my Dad we both love this album. We need more music like this
So glad you have the entire top 100 of 1999 too. Did you get that from this site....www.thomasreil.de/english/country/z_acctitel.htm LOVE IT!!! Do you have any ACC Top 100s from 2000 to the present? Only the top 50 aired from 1999 to the present but that particular site gave Bob Kingsley's full top 100 of 1999. Anyway, I suspect that is the most recent top 100 there is and then 2000 to now, we have to settle for the top 50 only. Anyway great to see another 80s and 90s country music chart junkie like myself.
Dave Wollenberg I actually think 1999 is one of my favorite top 100 countdowns because it is so inclusive. In most of the 80s and 90s, the top 100 country hits of the year was almost exclusively top 10 material, but by 1999, almost every top 30 song from the year was able to squeeze in there. In fact two songs on that countdown did not even make the top 30. "Take Me" by Lari White peaked at #32 and finished at #99 and "Are Your Eyes Still Blue" by Shane McAnally peaked at #31 and finished at #98. (I will leave it to you to find out what specific week those songs hit their peaks!) Only three songs from CHART YEAR 1999 (December 1998 to November 1999) that reached the top 30 missed this countdown; Clint Black's "You Don't Need Me Now" got to #29 and Vince Gill and Patty Loveless reached #27 with "My Kind Of Woman/My Kind Of Man." The only other top 30 to miss was "A Man Ain't Made Of Stone" by Randy Travis which reached #16 in late November, but so late it may have been considered to be a December peaked which would make it a "2000 hit" on the charts and not a 1999 hit. It is cool because it gives a very complete picture of what country radio was playing in that time period rather than just the super hits! I also like that Bob Kingsley's countdowns have no overlap between the years. 1998 and 1999 are totally different top 100s and 2000's top 50 (I imagine you have that chart too) is totally different from 1999. I also think it is cool that that website gives the entire top 100 because on the old American Country Countdown website (which disappeared around 2005 when Kix Brooks took over the countdown) 1998 was the last top 100 and then 1999 was only the top 50. I love that this site gave us the ENTIRE year end chart for 1999 and not just the top half.
George Pilzer Here is some more cool chart trivia: You are probably fully aware of this, knowing the chart junkie you seem to be but watch how fast the charts slowed down in the second half of the 90s (That is why in 2000, the top 100 was cut to the top 50; only about half as many top 10s that year as in the mid 90s); Here we go (Country charts from Dec of previous year to Nov of current year): 1994 - 30 #1 songs, 108 top tens 1995 - 29 #1 songs, 105 top tens 1996 - 27 #1 songs, 96 top tens 1997 - 23 #1 songs, 90 top tens 1998 - 23 #1 songs, 77 top tens, 99 top 20s 1999 - 19 #1 songs, 61 top tens, 83 top 20s, and 100 top 30s 2000 - 18 #1 songs, 52 top tens, 72 top 20s, and 92 top 30s (If I remember only about 107 or so songs made Bob Kingsley's entire top 40 that year!!!) Since 2000, the number of #1s has gone back up and in some years there were over 30 #1s but the only year more than 60 songs reached the top 10 on Country Airplay was last year (2014- 61 top 10s) and in none of these years did we have as many as 100 top 30 hits! That is why the year end countdown has been the top 50 ever since 2000 (or top 60 on Billboard). My question to you as a fellow country chart junkie is what caused country radio hit turnover to nearly cut in half during the second half of the 1990s? I think that is pretty significant that we go from 100 top tens a year on average up to the mid 90s to 50 a year on average from 2000 to the present. Also unless you are a chart junkie like myself, there are no "stories" about that drop in chart turnover. I am surprised it is not a bigger story. It seemed to happen right at a time when country music was really becoming mainstream (1997 to 2000) and coincided with the #1 hit songs getting a lot more airplay and spending much more time on top. Nonetheless, even in some of the years that followed when country music was NOT a very mainstream genre anymore (2003, for example) the charts were still extremely slow and country radio was very slow to break new music or take a lot of risks. If you listen to the songs themselves, they definitely got a lot more "cookie-cutter" and "family-friendly" towards the end of the 90s as the genre tilted more pop. Anyway, what seems strange to me is the massive chart slowdown. If you have any insights into why that happened, I would love to hear. You seem like the kind of person who might have some ideas. Anyway, just thought I would share some of that trivia with you about the charts (then again, you probably already knew most of the things I just posted based on your posts). Anyway, great song. Love Vince Gill.
(patty loveless backing him up) Dawn Sears has also done some backup for Patty Loveless and it's said that she has the same sound. Two beautiful voices.
