One thing I can’t say enough about the patreon/discord is the legitimately solid friendships I’ve built over the years. Life changing relationships, and that’s no exaggeration.

Mark and Linda aren't monetized on RUclips. I love your take on subs vs what they know.

I find it usually takes me around 3 sessions to get a good grasp on a system. I don't think I could review it in less time than that.

To be fair, I'd never heard of Roll for Combat until KoLC. Still haven't watched any of Steven's videos yet.

To be fair, Stephen on camera is a bit different than Stephen in person. I met him at GAMA and was a bit surprised.

@@KnightsofLastCall I know you like to do First Impression Overviews of new RPGs, would i be able to mail you a "Draft" copy of ours? No requirement, its about 85% done, with over 120+ pieces of custom art (no ai). I was handing a few of them out at origins and was hoping to see you in person.

I remember Luke from The DM Lair saying that being a good RUclipsr doesn't necessarily mean you're a good DM, and it doesn't even mean whatever advice you give to people is good advice. Being a good youtuber means you're a good youtuber, and that's it
I was a new DM when I heard that and it helped a lot because I was trying to understand what the big content creators were doing so that I could be the same as a DM/player. I'm glad I managed to get over that phase so quickly lol.
Also, is that Derik Malenda from KoLC?!!? *ignores Matt Mercer*

I saw that DIE RPG won a price at origins, will you consider doing a review.

I don't like spieling too much about my homebrew stuff, but with Crest Saga (a game my college friends and I beta testing right now) one of our main goals was having that progression feel of playing in one of those 1-20 DnD campaigns in as few as 10 sessions (mechanically speaking). There are just too many stories we want to tell and games we want to play to do these 2+ year campaigns any more.
Thanks for sharing the convention experience! I've never been to one but it's now on my bucket list to actually play/run at one now.

I guess Lo5R is Rewarding but Tiring. Like it's high effort high gain, and sometimes you don't have enough energy to put the effort in.

Great convo, been thinking about ideal length of campaign lately. Years+ campaigns are mind-boggling to me -- I'm not sure I could maintain interest that long. Have been thinking of the "Trilogy" approach where we do a campaign in 3 batches and call it part 1/2/3 of the trilogy. Like the LOTR movies... imagine being presented with "Here's this amazing 14-hour movie" .... how many would sit down for that? But split it into 3 parts and it's more digestible.
And will push back on it being due to our age. It's more about our down-time options nowadays. It's not the 80s and 90s where we had go out of our way to rent movies or console cartridges to get entertained. Barely anything of note was on TV. Nowadays everyone (including single teenagers -- family obligations isn't an excuse) have a ridiculous menu of options for entertainment. TTRPGs compete with free-to-play AAA videogames, on-demand AAA TV series and movies, never-ending social media feeds, etc. And those are all "Zero friction to reward". TTRPGs are high time and cognitive friction / load so you've got to be a special kind a nerd.
