Hank was expecting Jesse, not Tuco. He was looking for Jesse in order to find Walt. He probably didn't want Walt's problem to become public and that's why he went alone. :)

He handled it well though, get low, get in the dirt, use concealment make yourself a small target, throw some rounds at them. Quick reload. Wait for them to get up and try again. BAM, headshot. All that time at the range paid off. Even had the car engine as partial cover, at the end. Car engine would certainly stop bullets, a car door not much. Tuco, just blasting everywhere..... lol. I always loved how subtly insecure hank can be in the early seasons, and I thinks that’s why he seems fishy with Walt in the Hospital. He seems so funny, confident and Macho, but when the topic gets serious or emotional he gets all awkward because he can’t just crack a joke. Like when he has the talking pillow, or when he tries to get Skyler and Marie to make up. Dean Norris does a great job

  • @kjaime7030
    @kjaime7030 5 лет назад +11

At first glance, it doesn't seem like Hank is following any sort of DEA protocol and it's even out of character. HOWEVER, remember that HANK DOESN'T KNOW WHAT WALT AND JESSE ARE DOING (like we do), and all he was doing at this point is tracking Jesse's car to find out where Walt may have gone with him to smoke weed or whatever. Like Steven has brought up before, Hank isn't yet at the point where he thinks Walk can be anything but milquetoast, and Jesse though a dealer is just a kid with half a brain, so Hank's not going to be imagining any worst-case scenarios of what Walt might be in the middle of.

True that. Hospitals ain't prison. No one is actively looking out for patients trying to escape. And I don't think they can force you to stay in hospital unless you're a criminal guarded by police. Although I don't know what your insurence company would do if you'd escape from hospital. I was thinking about why they didn't dust Jesse's car for fingerprints, but years ago my brand new truck got stolen and the thieves took it for a joyride before abandoning it. I pushed the police to find out who stole it but they didn't care to even dust the truck. It was just left at an impound for me to pick up and get repaired. APD and DEA knew that was Jesse's car and Hank was there to know what went down, so why bother dusting Jesse's car? If only they had they might have found Walt's fingerprints in the car, if there were any to lift.

As an RN I can address the issue of a patient leaving the hospital.
It is terrifying from the nurse’s standpoint. If a patient wants to leave, we cannot hold them against their will. A nurse would request you sign a form stating you understand you are leaving “AMA” or “against medical advice”, and involve Security, the Supervisor, the Physician, and document document document. The signed AMA-form absolves the hospital and the nurse of liability should anything happen to the patient after they leave the premises. However, a patient willfully and knowingly sneaking away is the worst, since the RN assigned to the care of that patient is still legally liable for their welfare. That’s when the nurse calls 9-1-1 and starts praying extra hard. I have been in both situations, and everything in-between!
    Love you two!!!
    Now back to the video...
Since I don’t know yet what color hearts you want today Nikki--you can have one of each!!! ❤️💜🧡💛💚💙🖤💕

I tried to commit suicide and was put in a place like that. If I wanted to break out I could have if I figured out how to unlock the back door and then jumped the wall in the exercise yard which I could do easily. They don't pay much attention if you are in there semi-voluntarily.

    • @bettygreenhansen
      @bettygreenhansen 5 лет назад +2

RJ Tiger I hope if you EVER feel suicidal again you will realize you need help, that there is no shame (it is a brain-problem), that you would ALWAYS have enough peace of mind to reach out for help! I’m glad you received help when you needed it. A person who is admitted to my care in Florida for a suicide watch is usually “Baker Act”-ed first which is a legal 3-day restraint. As you point out, in a regular hospital, this may mean no locked doors. In our facility the person would be assigned a constant “sitter” (usually a CNA who wants extra hours) to provide the required monitoring. The 9-1-1 situation was a young lady with suicidal tendencies who was also physically ill who just up and left in the middle of the night. It was terrifying having to call the police to look for her, but after an hour she showed up at her mother’s house, safe. Pretty much one event in my career that made me seriously consider retirement. If you go to a facility and you want to leave, do your poor, probably hard-working, nurse a favor and SIGN the AMA form, or if you are legally restrained, accept the lifeline you’ve been thrown. Peace.

We could only prove 15k after I attempted suicide. I had a sitter for a few days and was in a mental health facility for two weeks because they didn't want to release me without my father. He went into the hospital shortly after me. She tried to get an order of protection against both of us and kick us out of our house. The hospital released me to my Uncles custody because we were on to her game. My cousin went to the same judge she went to for the order of protection saying she threw out all my stuff including my disabled needs stuff. He asked for a power of attorney on my dad and got an order of protection against her. When my dad got home the day after I was released the cops surprised her instead of me or my father. I didn't know it is illegal to throw out a disabled person's things that they need without permission. We filed charges and learned she has done something similar at least two times before. Evil exists let me tell you, ugh.

RJ Tiger I am so sorry you went through that!
Indeed, there are horrible, evil people...but you have within you the power to deal with anything that comes your way. It’s called resiliency.
I am so glad you received help for your situation! The hardest part is seeing anything but darkness sometimes. I know this. I have bipolar disorder and suicidal ideation. It’s just what I live with.
The scariest thing that ever happened to me was a fugue state. I was completely unaware of anything for about 24 hours; my brain just shut down. I could have done ANYTHING and not have known it, which scares the shit out of me since I was in Niagara Falls on vacation at the time it happened, by coincidence. Fortunately I was with friends who got me to a hospital.
I want you to know that even though your struggles are unique and difficult, you are not alone in this journey we call life! ❤️
PS I don’t work anymore. Being a nurse is very stressful and I don’t have to work. I am really super blessed.

While we were watching it, both my husband and I were literally feeling the EXACT same way about Walter as you guys feel in this video. You can't help but identify, even if just a tiny little bit, with his HUMANITY in the beginning of the show. HOWEVER... and this is just my opinion (and since these are old videos, lol) your feelings towards him might have shifted quite a lot as the show progressed!!!

Hank never saw Tuco coming. He was expecting Jesse Pinkman, low-level pot-dealer (remember, Hank has no idea Jesse also cooks and deals meth). Pot dealers tend to not be violent as far as drug dealers go. So he certainly wasn't expecting to be fired at with an automatic weapon.

It's quite difficult to explain walt's character but I heard it described by someone as a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde relationship between Walter and Heisenberg. In episode 1 of season 2 when Walt tries to have sex with styler after Tuco kills his bodyguard, Walt is heisenberg trying to feel powerful over Skyler because he feels powerless against Tuco. Walt's heisenberg persona is all about asserting power over others and he thrives off of it. Even in the pilot episode, Walt channels his heisenberg persona to attack the kids bullying his son, showing us that heisenberg was always a part of Walter, it was just repressed deep within him and didn't come out very often. However now that he is committing crimes heisenberg is able to come out more frequently. Even in the pilot after Walt almost tries to kill himself in the desert, he comes back and has sex with Skyler as heisenberg and Skyler says "Walt is that you?" Keep this in mind as you keep watching because when I rewatched this show after having this theory explained I found so much more detail and sophistication to the show than I realised in my first watch.

Unless you are on a phsyc hold Or enter the hospital already under arrest they cannot hold you and you’re free to get up and walk out of any hospital. However, they call that AMA (against medical advice).
AMA is very bad for any individual and the reason is that your insurance company will refuse to pay any of the costs associated with your stay. That’s why no one ever wants to really leave the hospital AMA in real life.
Just to get admitted and triaged and seen by a doctor will be about five grand out of your pocket.
Can you imagine if they ran an MRI or started a heart catheter or something like that? We’re talking a lot of freaking money out of pocket with no help from the insurance company

Loving the discussion of Walter's motivation! I think the whole point is to make you sympathize with this man's plight. He is currently situated in that "gray area" and despite him doing all this bad stuff, we, as the audience, still understand where he's coming from in his need to protect his family. The show is begging the audience to ask the question, "where and when is the line crossed?" And I think it'll be interesting to see where you guys stand on this moving forward.

Not sure I agree with "the show is "begging" the audience to ask...where and when is the line crossed?"...I never got that the first time I watched the show...I think that is something fans and viewers begged one another while in discussion. Imo, he was always gray and he crossed the line when he originally decided to cook.

I’m a GIANT breaking bad fan, seen the whole series at least four or five times, still get Walt and Hank’s names mixed up in conversation. I guess they’re just like two short, sharp, one-syllable common names for middle aged guys, easy to confuse. Doesn’t help that Bryan Cranston’s character in a previous show was called Hal.

Even if Tuco had snorted the ricin-laced meth, it would have taken anywhere from 48 to 72 hours for him to die of the effects. Walter and Jesse would have still been screwed.

  • @rexracer3221

This show does a great job of making you root for Walt even when he is doing bad things, because we KNOW his overall motive is pure. (To take care of his loved ones. Very few things in life are more noble than that)... Hank knows Walt is a genius, but he looks down at him as a nerd and someone who is very timid in life. Hank is very awkward with showing his emotions, he cracks jokes to cover for this... Walt could have told Skylar the 2nd cell phone was for his weed connection, that he feels that he needs that so he can endure the cancer treatments. That probably would have been a better idea than straight up lying to his wife... (It's assumed that Walt used acid on Kraze 8, since that's what they did to his cousin).

Fun fact, Tuco was supposed to be the main antagonist for season 2 but the actor felt that the character was just to stressful to play and he was doing another show at the same time he was shooting BB so he decided to leave the show. Which changed a lot considering that the creator of the show ( Vince Gilligan ) had to change his plans for season 2 and what he came up with was brilliant! Though i sort of wish Tuco stuck around for season 2, he was a great character in my opinion. 💚 💩 🔔 *Ding ding ding ding*

Enjoying the series but I have a thought. Steve was saying that Hank is supposed to be a vet and should have known better than to go out there looking for Tucco by himself. You gott remember Hank was not there on official business. He was looking for Walter because Skylar is worried. Jesse’s car has low-jack and that’s how he ended up there. He has no idea of their involvement with drugs so why would he come with back up.

it wasn't a smart move on hank but the thing is it was his own investigation because it's not in his jurisdiction to find a missing person. the only time they're involve is if it's drug related. he cannot call backup willy nilly because that's conflict of interest.

Walt didn't swallow his pride and accept a handout because he knew he had another option, which he took. At that time, he was a bit naive about how easy it would be to move the amount of product he needed to produce for his exit strategy to work. btw... I don't see any way to add an emoji from my computer, so I guess I just need to say, poo bell and a bow.

The REAL reason Steven likes to say "Yo" and Nikki likes to roll her eyes at this: it rhymes with "Snow."
Steven needs to REALLY incite the roll by quoting Jesse with an Ygritte accent and a few of her own common words. "Yuh, yuh, yuh, DEA dude! You knuh nothing, bitch!"
