fun fact: that performance was after he won the competition, he also won the prize for the best polonaise in the competiton so he played it as a prize concert
@@OiseauTriste Yes, but that 20 years does not apply to everyone. There are many pianists who were younger than 20 when they participated there. Even some winners were 18..
I remember being present at my brother's exams for his Diploma when he played this for finale, back in 2013. Unforgettable memories. Still having his performance on my mind.. awesome piece by Chopin
This piece always felt like celebrating the end of a war. The main melody is so triumphant. Middle section makes me picture a big parade, and then there's a brief reverence to the losses before the ending in a victory lap. Definitely cheesin' throughout.
The "Heroic Polonaise" by Frédéric Chopin, also known as Polonaise in A-flat major, Op. 53, is not actually titled as such by the composer. The nickname "Heroic Polonaise" was given to this piece due to its majestic and heroic character. It was composed in 1842 and is one of Chopin's most famous and powerful works. The piece is marked by its grandeur, triumphant melodies, and patriotic spirit, making it a symbol of Polish national identity and pride during Chopin's time.Chopin dedicated this piece to his friend and fellow composer Franz Liszt. It's worth noting that Chopin and Liszt had a close friendship and mutual admiration for each other's work
In this competition, that's where Daniil Trifonov came from! Great performances happened from Yulianna Avdeeva who won in 2010, Ingolf Wunder, Lukas Geniusas, Seong Jin Cho himself who won in 201 , there's only the highest level stuff.
I love this piece, didn't like his performance though (although I'm a great fan of this performer!). Maybe you'll check out another version some time in the future :)

imagine he completely botches it after already winning...
@@giovannib27 Seong-Jin could not possibly botch this polonaise! But I understand what you are thinking haha
Legendary piece. Always a great listen, brightens my day when I hear it.
the international Chopin competition happens every 5 years, so if u ever wanted to go see it irl the next one would be in 2025
And maybe even participate some day.
