  • Well, here's the second part of our plenum chamber repair, although I did lose some re-assembly footage. Despite the beginning of Winter being upon us and other items to attend to, I'm happy with the progress. Hope you enjoy!

    The weather has turned cold really quick. You are a trooper to be working outdoors in this weather in a tin shed.

      Yeah it's not as enjoyable, but the desire to make some progress is the reason. Once started, the temperature isn't an issue unless it gets under about 12 degrees, then staying inside is preferable haha, cheers.

      If it wasn't for my Milwaukee heated jacket, I wouldn't get anything done outside in the cold. People used to say to me that you feel the cold more as you get older. And turning 60 a week ago I can confirm. 🧊

    The hole they hack in the floor at the factory for the shifter is arguably the roughest thing ever done in the history of roughness. The first time I took the carpet out of my XF to do some repairs I couldn't believe my eyes at what they had done, the metal piece to hold the console and shifter barely covered the hole. I thought my god who the f..k did this.

    I am a bit curious what the reason behind the removal of the A/C is? Is it just hard to service them in AUS? I know as hot (and humid) as it is in the southern states it's tough to go without. Saying that mine doesn't work at the moment because the brain geniuses that designed the car decided you needed to take the entire dash out to replace the heater core as well as the evaporator.

    • @PeterAndersons
      @PeterAndersons  3 месяца назад

      Nah, all parts are easy to get and it isn't a hard job to do, but can be pretty expensive. The old York compressors are an eyesore and I always found them to be inefficient and expensive. A lot of people use a Sanden compressor which is a far better choice, but I'm not going down that road either. I guess, it's down to a few things; engine bay aesthetics, cost and as the car isn't being sold, I don't care about resale, cheers.

    Great video Peter 👍I'm doing my XD plenum primarily coz the passenger side bonnet hinge was half rotted away - rest is in amazing condition but, like you, I can't stand the thought of doing cuts to section the plenum. Besides, they are just so hard to clean 40+ years of dust and leaves out of !!! Cheers mate 😎

    Hi Peter. You have single handedly given me the confidence to work on car upholstery, which I've actually just done on my 99 Verada. I know that this isn't the topic of this video but I'm hoping you see this and recognise the good you do. The videos are also quite cathartic in a way and I'm sure many appreciate your great work! Can I also ask what happened to the GH Sigma?

    • @PeterAndersons
      @PeterAndersons  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks so much for the great comment! The Sigma is at my ex-wifes place up in the country... I was disconcerted with the way the paint broke down. I think it was from past dodgy repairs underneath... should have taken it back to bare metal. I'll get back to is some day, cheers.

    • @PeterAndersons

      I thought about single lights like an FC or FD LTD but decided against after I found a good set of original lights. I was never a huge fan of the XE front, but have grown to like it with age. To keep the $$ down though, I'll leave as is, but not opposed to altering it later, cheers.

    • @terryg5784
      @terryg5784 3 месяца назад

      @@LachlanWoods-nj3rm If it was "far, far better" the price would be equal to or better than the XE but they simply are not. The ZK and ZJ look has not aged well, where as the XD and XE has. Look, if it was a ZJ I would have said put a XD front end on it. In fact, while were at it , change to the XD/XE dash. You can't tell me the ZJ/ZK dash is sexier.

      Fairlane's are never worth what a Falcon is, I think it's more to do with the wheelbase. Short wheelbase models are always more sought after regardless of aesthetic changes... just my opinion haha, cheers.
