    Good video. I too use a Celestron 9.25. The way I get the planet in the center of the planetary sensor is I start NINA with the DS imaging train, slew somewhere, plates solve & sync to mount, use Orbitals plugin to go to the planet, then unscrew the DS imaging train and swap to the planetary camera. Now (as you mentioned) you are way out of focus. This is actually an advantage: connect NINA to the planetary camera, start an imaging loop with 0.5-1.0 second exposures, and begin moving the focuser to the correct position. You will begin with a HUGE donut which shrinks as it comes to focus. Because it starts so large you can see if the planet is off-center or not and know how to adjust the mount.

      Thanks for the tips Bruce these may come in handy I see what you mean by basically using the camera and then swapping over. Also haven't heard of the orbitals plugin. Cheers.

    Hi Ollie, nice work. Long piece to the camera and didn't miss a beat. I do a little planetary imaging, I would recommend a nice 2x barlow and get yourself a ZWO ADC this will get you to about 2.5x magnification. If you are going to image Saturn just start with 10ms and balance the histogram to 65% as its has a low surface brightness. See how you go, all the best.

      Thanks for those tips Damo I'll bear those in mind, I've considered those ADCs. I just saw the scope on your channel, that thing sure is a beast.

      @@AstroSoundscape yeah it's a bit of fun, I have been learning it's strengths and weekness's (mostly thermals in winter rapid temp changes) and look forward to getting some nice seeing with it. My 16" is a solid performer with 85% of what is on the channel being imaged with it.
      ADC is a must if you are going to continue with some planetary work. You can get away with Saturn this year at the top of its arc but everything else will be better with one. Happy to help.

    Nice video Ollie! I feel your pain and frustration with the Weather we had the worst August ever it seems to be the same all over the planet at the moment, some parts terrible heat and others parts rain and clouds.
    Looking forward to seeing your live stream and wishing you clear skies soon.

    Excited to see your run on solar system. If I could offer one hugely helpful tip it would be to use multiple finders. I can’t count the number of times I accidentally bumped one or that I had to crank my neck due to its position on the scope. Having two just increases your precision and ease of use.

      Hey Garnett sure will be good to get some imaging done. Good tips regarding the additional guider, not something I've ever considered but I can see the sense. 👍

      @@AstroSoundscape Hi pal! I missed it live unfortunately but saw the most part of it later. Hope you will have better (planetary) seeing soon. (Although I liked the quality (Saturn)... But sure, you had the direct comparison to the night before). Just something for consideration for your next stream: Maybe you can also show some (pre-=) processing of your planetary footage in AS/ RegiSt. etc.? Would be very interesting..,(if your computer can handle that at the same time.. 😄) - Have a great day & cs. Tully (Michael)

    That's one heck of a rig Ollie, and perfect for planetary. I watched the live stream (albeit after the event) and the live image of Saturn was astonishing. It always looks really small in the 5" mak scope.
    Bet you are glad you didn't sell the scope.

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hey John - Thanks for watching mate, I think the seeing I got that first night was v good. Yes indeed glad I held onto it. I think 8 inch and up is pretty useful for the planets, although Neptune is only gonna be a blob in anyone's scope. :)

    I failed on 2 nights this week to find Saturn, had the finderscope aligned to the main ota, but was at 11,200m and no amount of searching could I find the dot! So just went back to the Moon instead...😣.. Good luck and hope those clouds clear for you!

    Nice one Ollie I started off doing planetary years ago using old butchered webcams on a 200P with varying results, first with a 2X Barlow then I stacked 2 - 2X Barlows I did try a 3X which worked well but don't be tempted with a 4 or 5X like I did lol. You could try a Barlow with an extension tube as that will magnify the image so there's plenty to do & mess around with.

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hey pal yeah I've never been up beyond a 3X and think that will probably do. Once those pings of doom stop hopefully get some imaging done :)

    For planetary imaging, people get C14, because of aperture, not FL. FL could be increased with any scope.

    What capture program are you using. Does it control your mount so it keeps the planet image centered while taking the video? I has an ASIAir and a C8 and I can't get ASIAir V2.2.1 to plate solve during Polar Alignment. I have to use the 6.3 focal reducer to get it to plate solve. While ASIAir GO TOs close to Jupiter it can't center Jupiter so I'm still stuck manually trying to find Jupiter in my ASI585MC camera in ASIAir Preview or Video. Once I have it centered then I can add a 2X Barlow and focus it. Its frustrating at times. My ASI585MC only has a 2.9 pixel size. If I multiple that by 5 it comes in close to 15. My C8 is F/10 but no makes a 1.5x Barlow. 2x seems to be the smallest. So I'm using a 2.9 pixel sensor at F/20. Is that something to be concerned about? I can remove the lens element on my Barlow and screw it into the the ZWO camera nose piece but I loose the ability to screw on my IR Cut filter. Figure the filter is more important. Thanks

      Hey there - For me personally in terms of finding the planets I tend to use a combination of a well aligned finder scope and Stellarium. Of course I need to be polar aligned. What I do then is connect the mount to Stellarium and tell it to go to the planet. Now at this point I often go outside and using my finder scope and hand controller center the planet. Now I go back to my PC and using Sharpcap software connect to my camera and mount and just move around a bit until I find it. A well aligned finder scope helps save lots of time. The Sharpcap software is very good for planetary work and it also has a good polar align function. It also only costs about $25 a year. You need the paid for version to use the polar alignment feature.
      Hope this might help a bit. 👍

    Hello, at a warehouse sale I bought the Celestron 9.25" XLT SCT + AVX mount. I need to know which is better for DSO; a guide telescope or an OTG? thanks

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  Месяц назад

      The OAG is really needed for guiding although with the AVX, I imagine you might struggle as it's a bit under size for this scope.
