I feel he made a mountain out of the upper and it was the biggest factor in his review. Plus, the shoes have "room" and he said he has a "narrow" foot. When she got to talk, her take was more like my feet, wider and appreciating more room and the upper not being such a huge deal. I have the Cloud Monster pair in a white and just ordered the Cloud Monster 2 in the black with white bottom. Looking forward to receiving and thanks for the review.
I don't buy one second of On's marketing about their dumb cloudtubes, but I think the cloudmonster fulfills a fun niche. If you weigh up the EVA it's probably much closer to a daily trainer than a max cushion shoe in terms of shock absorption, but it has that dumb bubblewrap popping feeling that's just fun on a proprioception level. I wouldn't pay MSRP for it, but I'll probably buy another pair on clearance once my current ones wear out.
Wider is better for your foot. Infact i would say this is the correct size & every other brand cramping your forefoot is smaller than it should be. & it's not like any human has his/her forefoot slimmer than their heels. So it should be wider.
yes thats why we need different width sizes than just length sizes. Very few brands offer that but even they don't offer precise width like how they offer length@@marcusszavaleta
I'm not a runner but a fashion guy and I recently bought ON cloudmonster1 I am running regularly for now with it on and it feels just different, really good for running Of course I am comparing it with sports style shoes such as 992 and xt6
I bought these over the Cloudeclipse for the large toe box and this is perfect for me although I have to us the runners knot to prevent heel slippage - not a dealbreaker and what I usually do. These are about the same weight as the Brooks Glycerin GTS 20 they are replacing so not an issue for me. They are definitely giving me the support I need although I would prefer a more padded tongue - but again not a dealbreaker (so far!). I normally buy size UK10.5 and did the same with the CM2 - perfect sizing for me.
Most comfortable shoe I've had out the box. Definetly runs about a half size big. HOWEVER I've logged about 70-80 miles on them and noticed that the cushion definitely loses its responsiveness and bottoms out. I am 215lbs so maybe that comes into play a bit 🤷🏻♂️
If your an On lover and compare these to their other offerings, it's a great shoe, but when you start to compare these to so many other brands in the $160-$180 range there are just so many better shoes IMO like what was mentioned. Other than fashion, why would any one run in this over the NB SC Trainer, Endorphin Speed, Nimbus/Supeblast, Boston, or even the Nike Invincible?
I ran the first iteration with an orthotic and it was a big mistake- once I took it out the shoe came alive. I like On so much I bought stock in the company. And I’ll probably get the Monster 2 too- right now enjoying the Eclipse and New Balance 1080 V13 and the Boston
I tried these on today and they were so comfortable. I just want them for working on my feet all day. The regular Onn clouds just are super narrow and squish your feet. Not all people who buy these are runners..... :P
I used to wear the original Cloudflyer, (or cloudsurfer? Whichever was wider and had the larger cloud pods underneath.) On shoes are probably what got me into running, because their width suited my wider feet well. But their more recent shoes hadn’t been as impressive to me. I wore hoka as an alternative for the past three years, another wide shoe maker, but now am totally in love with Topo shoes. Hearing the cloudmonster 2 is wide is appealing, but hearing that its width is due to oversizing makes me worried the shoe might be longer than suits my feet. The shape of the toe box, although roomy, still looks to be a shape that pushes your toes inwards toward the big toe, and I really like how my Topo allow my smaller toes to splay outward naturally. Even if it’s got a wide toe box, the shape of the toe box, and oversizing which seems to cause some slipping issues is unfortunately enough to keep me from purchasing these shoes. But Topo are also cheaper and quite soft so I’m happy with what I have for now!
Sort of how I felt about the OG Monster too. It’s a decent daily trainer with cushion… but the feel and price didn’t seem like the right choice given the competition. Really just leaves it at “ we’ll, if you want an ON shoe, then get it”.
Massive room is a good thing I would say. Our (modern) feet have been to be squeezed and promoted to have bunions etc; so it is normal/a good thing to have wide shoes.
any one feel cloudmonster 1 is a lot better feeling than 2? The cloudmonster 2 is a lot stiffer on the feet, making the 'cloud' popping feeling no more!
The collar over the foxing on the previous show was the only complaint I had for the shoe. Anything less than an athletic sock with extra cushion there would cause the collar to eat into the Achilles on 12+ shifts in the shoe. Looks like thet changed that part a lot for this shoe
I found it bigger than the first generation I ordered 6.5 retuned it for a 6 and still big I returned and ordered ones from the first generation the comfort is there but they made the second generation too big for me.
I have V1 and it’s ok but I don’t love it. The upper is baggy and not form fitting and the tongue has no padding at all ( I love a padded tongue on a daily trainer/long run shoe). With the points made in your review I don’t think I’ll be getting V2.
Hard pass for me. I feel like I have too much room in the Eclipse, so this sounds like a non-starter. The Surfer remains the only shoe in their lineup that works for me. Thanks for the review and saving me money :)
Tried it on my foot. It's too big, too firm and not much bounce. Also it's way much more expensive than the other max cushion shoes like Asics Nimbus. So it's a no for me.
A shoe that finally offers a proper amount of space for those with largers feets, and they want to put a negative spin on it and make it seems like a con for the shoe, for shame. You can highlight it all you wanted, but how you express your take it important. Not every shoe should just be a shoe that fits your foot alone.
If all 3 of them (Robbe’s fit experience was included) it seems quite certain they run at least 1/2 size long. Which is independent from the width, which is apparently nicely generous in this shoe. All this feedback is good reason to go into a good running store and try them on for yourself. I’ve had experience with other brands where one year’s model runs true to size and another iteration runs long or short. The staff at my favorite running store always bring out another size because they know about that version’s particular fit. These reviewers don’t need to be shamed for mentioning they run long. They approve of the toe space.
Did my comment just get deleted?? I had a whole blob about the monster 2's and a premium version coming out?? I thought you wanted to hear our opinions?? 11:22
I'm still skeptical of On as an actual running shoe. And all the ones I've tried on have been "meh". At the same price point, for me, there are many better shoes.
Why you have to complain if the shoes is bigger than your foot? Just say that doesn't fit perfectly your foot because of xxx... We finally have a non anorexic shoes that you can wear with thicker socks! 👏
They are comfy for walking and just being in them. Not good for running imo, have the first gen to try them out, hurt my knees when I tried to run 4 miles in them. But i will admit they have a nice lil pep in the return when i sprint, but i wouldnt want to run long in them.. maybe i will try to break them in more..
They AREN'T bad for running. I have 3 friends who run in them and I walk in mine. We all LOVE these Cloud Monsters so don't let anyone tell you they are bad for running. Not so!
You had me at "a ton of room" :) Altra lover here....I'll take more room whenever I can get it.
Look into the topo athletic.
I have v1. It’s the midfoot that’s the problem. Wide toe box is great. But if the midfoot is wide, it’s hard to get a snug/secure fit.
Agreed!
ironically enough my altras are the tightest shoes i've ever bought
Not if you have a wide foot :) @@nicklas6973
On my 3rd pair of Cloud Monsters, and they’re the first shoe that I’ve had no leg/joint pain in. They’re great shoes. Keep the reviews coming!
Good morning. I don't like the big max cushion but the Like to Meaghan and Thomas. Have a great friday.
Thanks for the comments on the fit of the upper --- definitely be getting a pair of these for my EEE feet.

Totally agree about the price. There are just too many lighter, better trainers, with premium foams at that price range.
Wider is better for your foot. Infact i would say this is the correct size & every other brand cramping your forefoot is smaller than it should be. & it's not like any human has his/her forefoot slimmer than their heels. So it should be wider.
Your foot shouldn’t slip through the whole shoe. The Boston doesn’t cram your shoes, no reason this should be so wide unless it’s specified
I’d say the same, but a good lockdown is needed, still getting this shoe tho cuz my wide foot gives me all the lockdown I need😂
yes thats why we need different width sizes than just length sizes. Very few brands offer that but even they don't offer precise width like how they offer length@@marcusszavaleta
Wow they priced themselves right out. Way better shoes for that price.
I'm not a runner but a fashion guy and I recently bought ON cloudmonster1

What colors are you showing?

How is it compared to the Eclipse?
I tried these on today and they were so comfortable. I just want them for working on my feet all day. The regular Onn clouds just are super narrow and squish your feet. Not all people who buy these are runners..... :P
Is the Monster 2 as stable as the Eclipse ? Especially since you guys saying that the Monster 2 has a less soft middlesole between the two.
Thanks.
It is stable for a neutral shoe

Did you guys say the stack height? I didn't see that in the review.
Everything he said is correct!
The original Monster is best !
9.2 oz. in my 8.5. Hope they didn't ruin my favorite D.T. 😊
I missed the first version but I want to give this a try for my first ON shoe!
any one feel cloudmonster 1 is a lot better feeling than 2? The cloudmonster 2 is a lot stiffer on the feet, making the 'cloud' popping feeling no more!
Where can we find that women’s colorway?

Looks interesting, but the truth is that no manufacturer is going to be able to touch the Superblast. Can't be done.
I have V1 and it’s ok but I don’t love it. The upper is baggy and not form fitting and the tongue has no padding at all ( I love a padded tongue on a daily trainer/long run shoe). With the points made in your review I don’t think I’ll be getting V2.
But is this the same shoe as the rumoured cloudmonster hyper or are they different shoes?
That’s a different shoe
Being an Altra/Topo guy I’d probably like these but 180$… I’ll stick to my Topo Atmos. But next time running warehouse has a sale I might get a pair.
Safe to say grab V1 on sale & maybe invest in the Eclipse?
V1 felt like a high cushion tempo shoe to me whereas this one moves into the daily trainer realm. Overpriced both ways, so take what sales you get
Taaaake onnnnn meeeeeee, TAKE ME HOMEEEEEE
I had the first model and nothing wrong with the ride, but the shoe just way too wide for size. Plus the upper was too hot.
Altra and Topo shoes mostly occupy my shoe rack. So, looks like this one is a shoe in, no pun intended, for me.
This shoe was super big on me. I had to order to a size down
Hard pass for me. I feel like I have too much room in the Eclipse, so this sounds like a non-starter. The Surfer remains the only shoe in their lineup that works for me. Thanks for the review and saving me money :)
Agree the Cloudsurfer is a big winner
What is the color way she has? I don’t see any color like that.
Tried it on my foot. It's too big, too firm and not much bounce. Also it's way much more expensive than the other max cushion shoes like Asics Nimbus. So it's a no for me.
thx!
You guys should split the score color in half, and keep it on, yours stays yellow and her half stays green 🎉 lol awesome review

To me it just seems that the cloud monster only exists because it looks cool when the eclipse is by far the better daily trainer
Wait for the Cloudmonster Hyper :) You gonna love it
Agree with this
The better performing On shoes are the ones farthest from the original principles of On (minimal + uniform pods)
ON pricing is waaaaaaack. Performance wise their shoes are usually so average. (With a couple exceptions)
Thomas sounded like he wanted to give it a red
No way, I just bought the Cloudmonster "1" :(((((
So it’s softer or firmer than the 1? Meghan usually likes softer rides.
Not a fan of the eclipse to much room!
I really like the improved fit of the upper. Don’t love the new midsole though.
They look exactly the same lmao
Thomas what have you done with your hair dude! Grow old gracefully 👍
Why you have to complain if the shoes is bigger than your foot? Just say that doesn't fit perfectly your foot because of xxx... We finally have a non anorexic shoes that you can wear with thicker socks! 👏
Why do people still buy ON running shoes if they are so bad?
They are comfy for walking and just being in them. Not good for running imo, have the first gen to try them out, hurt my knees when I tried to run 4 miles in them. But i will admit they have a nice lil pep in the return when i sprint, but i wouldnt want to run long in them.. maybe i will try to break them in more..

BINGO! ON IS NO BACWARDS. YELLOW..ALL DAY A SHOE MADE FOR LOOKS NOT FUNCTIONAL WAY TO HEAVY..
That is one ugly shoe 😂
