Thanks for watching our video about a trash hill and for the compliment. We had a fun afternoon at this park. We are glad you stopped by to check it out!
This park was quite beautiful. We had a great visit. And it was interesting to learn about the past of this park! Thanks so much for watching our video!
It really does look majestic. I imagine it is even better in the spring and summer when the grass is green and the trees have leaves and flowers are blooming. It is a pretty park - especially considering its history. Thanks for watching!
It was actually a really cool park. The history of the previous use and current use of the land is so interesting. It makes for a very unique place. Thanks so much for watching our video!
It was beautiful. And I imagine it would be even more beautiful in the spring and summer. But we really enjoyed our visit to this park. Thanks so much for watching!
I grew up in Virginia Beach near OceanFront a good portion of my life. My family and i would visit this park all the time, every visit was treasured! Seeing this made me homesick since moving away from the east coast. I hope to visit the park in the near future sometime and see what all has change in the last 13 years being away.
Mount Trashmore was a fun place to visit. There really was a lot to do. And it is only a few miles up the Interstate from the beach. Thanks so much for watching our video!
Thank you for the compliment! We try to make our videos as informative as possible for people who may one day travel wherever we are touring. We appreciate you watching!
I grew up in Virginia Beach, wanted to look up a recent video of Mt. Trashmore for some nostalgia. Came across this video. I hadn't thought about it from an outside perspective before. Mt Trashmore was basically my home away from home. Kid's Cove, the child's playground, when I went was all wood. I spent A LOT of time playing on that playground growing up. There were also firework shows on the 4th of July that my family went to every year. You'd take a blanket and have a picnic on the hill while watching the fireworks display. I love that park.
Thanks for sharing your experiences at Mount Trashmore! I can see why a kid growing up in the area would love the place. It is a great re-use of the space. It is one of our favorite parks. Thanks so much for watching our video and for taking the time to comment!
Looks like they are doing a lot to prevent covid! We visited a few years ago on our way to the eastern shores. I think the trees they planted are very sweet and i love that they are lighting the candles for Hanukkah!! 😊👍
Yeah, this is a really cool place. We enjoyed our visit. Most of the Christmas displays we saw had some small reference to Hanukkah. But this site wins for biggest Hanukkah decoration we have seen this year and possibly ever. The trees are a nice touch especially since Virginia Beach is a military town. Thanks so much for watching our video!
Yeah, in our research, we read there are several other Mount Trashmores. Very interesting trend. If you don't look at the methane pipes, it is a very beautiful park. LOL. Thanks for watching!
It was a very interesting park. There was lots to do. It was overcast and drizzling much of the time we were there. But on a nice spring or summer day, this is a fun place to spend an afternoon outdoors. Thanks so much for watching our video!
I'm usually so wordy. Mount Trashmore is a hilarious name. It looks so beautiful and then you see the methane gas pipe. LOL! Great idea for them to dress up the area though to get some good use out of it.
Yes, if you always stand with your back to the methane gas pipe, you can just focus on the beauty and forget you are standing on a hill of garbage. LOL. But, it did turn out to be a nice park. And it is very nice that the land got reused and isn't just sitting there as a full, unusable landfill anymore. Thanks so much for watching!
LOL. The park looks so beautiful. Then you get to the methane gas pipe. We have heard of several other communities doing this same thing since this park was built. When you run out of space at the landfill, there are all kinds of other uses for it, I suppose. None I would want to live very close to I am afraid.
Trash mountain love the name 👍 now all they need to do is capture that methane gas and use it for something 👍 there’s a school in my next of the woods that’s uses the methane for heat in the winter.
The name makes it even better! That is an interesting thought... it would be cool if they could find a use for the methane gas that is being created. Thanks for watching our video!
Yes, we thought about the same thing. We actually searched the web for articles about the methane being released and how safe it was. I am not sure we are completely convinced but we did learn that the city has enacted several different safety protocols over the years since the land became a park and they have experts testing the soil, water and air. So at least it is being monitored, I suppose. But is was a fun park. Thanks for watching our video, Kristine!
I would definitely re name the mountain to something more inviting. The seal looks awesome. Thank you Jack and Alice for taking us on your adventure and tour. Seasons Greetings. 🎄
What a clever way of turning a former landfill into a park and tourist attraction! We haven't been to VA Beach for a few years, but this looks like something that's unique and offers great views. New friend and follower here!
This really was a good way to reuse the land in the middle of the city that would otherwise just be a full landfill. It does have good views of a city that is made up of pretty flat land. And it has turned into quite a fun park for locals and tourists alike to visit. Thanks so much for watching and commenting and subscribing!
The name is amazing. Apparently they held a public vote on what the name should be and since so many people had been calling it Mount Trashmore, a huge majority voted for that instead of something more dignified. Thanks for watching!
I enjoyed this! I was born in Virginia Beach and have not been back since I was a child I remember hearing about Mount Trashmore there was a bit of fascination about a park built on a pile of trash when you are a young child😀😀 does it stink with those methane vents around?
Yes, I imagine the idea sounds pretty wild to young kids. We did not smell anything at all while we were there. We did some research on the topic before visiting though. Some articles we read mentioned that there can be a bit of a bad smell near the vents on hot summer days. Thanks so much for watching our video!
It is a very nice park - but the name may be my favorite part! They are planning a beautiful green space down by the interstate and the locals called it Mount Trashmore. That is so good. Thanks for watching our video - and for the compliment!
We were wondering that ourselves so we did some research. We read an article that says on very hot summer days, sometimes you can catch a whiff of a trash smell in the air. But on the December day we were there, we smelled nothing bad at all. Thanks so much for watching Jenn & Mark!
@@trvlnthru interesting for sure! Since it’s hot 90% of the year here in southern Louisiana, they can’t do something like that here but I love the concept of it.
Beautiful video and very nice hill. Greetings and thanks for sharing. Have a happy week. Thumbs up.

There is a Mount Trashmore in Uowa that I tried to visit earlier this year but the park was closed. Gotta love the methane pipes!

I never thought a landfill would be a park! LOL This is wild! No park is complete without a methane gas pipe coming out of the ground LOL!!!

Good use of land. I do wonder about off gassing though. 🤔 👍 ~ Kristine

@@trvlnthru I imagine they do monitor it. Still, something creepy thinking about what's under there. 🤢

That name is off-putting. But thankfully, the place is rather pleasant. Thanks so much for watching our video! Happy Holidays!

I love the name!!😀 first I’ve heard of the peace pole. That’s fun lol 😂. Love the meaning behind the trees 🌲
