  • This is the second-generation i20 five-door supermini and we've been putting it through its paces to see where it sits in the supermini class.
With five different engines in seven outputs, there's plenty to choose from with five and six-speed manual gearboxes and a four-speed automatic.
Add to that the six trim levels (S, S Air, SE, Turbo Edition, Premium Nav, Premium SE Nav) so you're spoilt for choice.
There's also two other body styles, a three-door coupe and a five-door crossover called Active.
Prices start from £11,605 and rise to £18,110.
We're testing the 1.0 T-GDI 100PS turbocharged petrol engine with a five-speed manual gearbox in Turbo Edition, which costs £13,275.

    A reliable Polo. Perfect.

I got it from car rental in Greece and absolutely loved it! It was the cheapest version without leather on steering wheel and gear stick, sat-nav and it had (probably) the cheapest engine, but it was a pleasure to drive for a week :)

Very good review! I am just a little bit worried about the steering. Some say it has improved, others it still feels loose and disconnected

i20 vs Fabia? which do you think it's better?

  • @Ambienfinity
    @Ambienfinity 7 лет назад +3

Fab review - it is a little bland inside but it's a nicely styled car and definitely looks a step up from the previous incarnation (which I've been in) ..... the 1 litre three pot doesn't look that economical though. I'd be inclined to go for the normal 1.2.....

Thanks for the great review, sounds like a definite thumbs up from you. Would have like to have heard more from that engine, I've still to be converted.

John McNeely many thanks. Almost crowned it as Hyundai's best car on sale today but the firm ride on bad roads left the Ioniq in the number one spot. Did you want to hear more engine noise or details on performance?

currently running an i30 diesel, although I'm looking to change to one of the new turbo petrol engines that are currently available. Sounds like your having to keep the revs higher than normal in order to get any performance.

John McNeely not tragically so or noticeably much more than with many diesels. The new 1.0-litre in the i30 is excellent and more fun that the new 1.4 turbo petrol.
In the i20 you could look at the more powerful 1.0-litre which will help.
These 1.0-litres are brilliant fun and very impressive.

Thanks for your thoughts, I think the Mazda 2 is also more stylish

Ray Hunt have you considered the Nissan Micra ruclips.net/video/fz72phKnHbo/видео.html or Citroen C3 ruclips.net/video/k7X8qzD84SE/видео.html ? Both very stylish and utterly transformed from previous iterations.

I jut passed my test yesterday! would this be good as a first time car? I heard insurance is very low on them and I actually really like the interior, I think it looks quite flashy but wouldnt bother me if it wasn't its not like i'm living in it haha

Kloe McKernan hey, many congratulations. Welcome to the club. Yes this would be a wonderful first car and it’s a bit more substantial than an i10. It also has a 5 year new car warranty.

Torn between this and the Mazda 2 sport nav, both have plenty of kit.
    What do you think ?

Ray Hunt great dilemma to have. Two excellent cars. Has to come down to personal preference on looks and feel when they are so closely matched. The i20 does come with a five-year warranty, though, and has loads of room. The Mazda 2 is more stylish inside, however.

Great Video Review. I agree about the Interior as It Is not the best and If I was buying a Supermini then I would choose the New Ford Fiesta coming soon

Jamie Pickles much appreciated. Fiesta should be a treat if Ford builds on what is already a terrific supermini.

Great review. I'm torn between this and the facelifted Clio 1.2 turbo. I feel this is overall more reliable and practical, but that Clio, especially in flame red, is absolutely gorgeous. Have you reviewed the Renault? Would like to know your thoughts.

David Thompson agree with the looks of the Clio although the new Micra and C3 are also head turners. Yet to try the latest Clio but will let you know when we do.

How is baleno 1.2 petrol in comparison. Hits and mises of both please

i20 is better to drive and nicer to be in. Baleno is spacious and a comfy long distance cruiser.

The 1.2 75hp is a piece of shit. This engine is useless. It's very painfull to drive, this engine is too weak. The shifter.... the shifter is so short. In the city (40km/h) you ride on 4th gear on 2000rpm.The interior is ok for that price.Every time you start the car you must turn off the start stop mode.I think that system is a bullshit. If you want buy car in this category buy someting else, for example Škoda fabia,VW golf/polo.My rating for this crap is :Interior 4/5(in this category),engine 1/5,exterior 3/5,price 3/5.In totaly 3 stars but its dont relevant, because the interior increases the stars(you dont buy car for interior)I Just give 2 stars for the car.
