PEACE and THANKS!
Man that thing sounds incredible, the Amp, Guitar, Hands .. the whole damn thing. YOU are the sound. Exceptionally great playing as always Nik.
Thank you my brother💙
Man that tele is sick, I’m playing a reliced custom Esquire myself
Amazing video! I was just watching the 5 watt world video on the champ last night!
Great video!
I have a love for all Tweed amps. Especially the Wide Panel and 1960 Narrow Panel amps.
If you can’t afford a vintage example, there’s so many really good kits out there right now. Hell, even the Gibson Tweed amps are killer and they’re cheaper!
Sweet sweet tones Nik
I think Clapton used a Champ for the Derek and the Dominoes album. Sounds great. Incredible playing too. Love the videos.
Nik, absolutely love your videos. Between your knowledge and playing you’re a well of knowledge. Please consider bringing back the quick licks series. Those were fantastic and broke me out of some ruts. Maybe once a week? Thanks and keep up the great content!
Some of those will be coming soon! Thanks for your interest!
I really love your channel man. I have no clue how you don’t have more views, and subscribers. You’re content is excellent. Keep up the work bro, I’d love to see your channel blow up and if you keep this up I know it will !
Amazing 👏. Much love from New Mexico Nik. Hope all is well.
Fantastic tone and great playing 👍
That is a cool sound indeed !
Once again, not that there was any doubt, we see that Leo got it right way back then...Great video man!
Damn 🔥🔥 the sound of that amp is great, really digging that tele!!
I've got a '56 Princeton that I found in a pawnshop in Hollywood in 1988. I bypassed the tone control and the negative feedback loop, and VOILA! instant big box Champ! Those 2 things change the Princeton's circuit so it's identical with the Champ, and it really opens up the gain and the touch sensitivity. I do the tile bathroom trick all the time, too!
Love those blues Nic !! I built one of Geralds 118 kits the thing screams and there bulletproof . Plus you can have a little fun with different power tubes if you like. Be cool as always.
My new favourite channel
Was fortunate enough to find a 57 three and a half years ago on my local classifieds. The price was so good I intended to sell it but after playing it for ten seconds I knew it wasn't going anywhere. Absolutely amazing amps. Crazy how much comes out of such a tiny package.
That's a compelling sound.
I just got the earlier Champion 600 from ‘53. I bought it on Goodwill online ... just had some restoration but original electronics and speaker... 6 inch speaker but sounds great.
You’re way more informative than 5 watt world. Nice playing!
Sweet!
Tons of headroom!!!
Sounds killer
Another proof that tone is in your fingers man, that outro was EPIC. Thank you!
Sounds really good Nik. Love your playing too.
Great amp. Great playing. And you are using a Couch strap--great brand! Mahalo!
I think a lot of people underestimate these amps because they're only 5 watts. I have a modern version of the Champ and it cranks! I love it!👍😎🎸🎶
i record a lot with a Victoria Champ with a 12" speaker...man, its perfect. Sounding great Nik!!
My man!
Hi Matt
I bought a Fane alnico 12 inch speaker that I am going to in a Fender Champ 5 F1 clone.
After seeing your comment I am quit shire it's going to be a good thing.
I’m using a 9watt EchoPark Clarence hand wired based on a Fender Harvard
I see alot of people say you can't get huge tones without big glass and iron, and that's true but the champs I have played are suprisingly girthy and full, makes sense they are studio favorites
Good morning from Chicago
Yessa!
Whoa that sounds really good!
Love my brown box
Another old newbie? Sounding good... is there a review coming or did I miss it already? Nice visual effects too!
Sounds great
That a new tele?
That settles it, I need to get a 12AX7 in my Champ. This is the Blues tone I've been chasing on my own Champ. The modern reissues have a low gain 12AY7, probably suspecting that modern players will want it to take pedals better. I was gonna settle on building a tone stack with pedals, but after watching this. It's making me reconsider that. Thx. Also, it seems pretty clear it sounds so much better with fender like single coils too, far more definition and cut, over humbuckers.
🔥
Couple of throw away lines...speaker replacement = not farting out with gain. The room you put them in MATTERS greatly. Brown box for proper voltage...correct voltage = great tone. Improper voltage = stressed amp and weirdness? They make awesome practice amps, and could almost gig in a modern context?
Have a ‘63 Vibro Champ which does a lot of the same things? Dig the bathroom reverb!
Yes, please cover the Custom!
Interesting that you have the tone discussion coming up. One question would be about tone from driving your amp. Would it be better to get a small amp and gun it versus using a bigger amp at appropriate volume? Another killer video, Brother.
In my experience with tube amps it's great to get 30-50 watts and turn it up to band volume , but there's a point the power section pumps the speakers to ear damaging volumes so it really depends on how loud your drummer is !
This may have been answered, but what is that reverb unit you have? I am trying to find something great sounding and real for my 5f1.
Sole-Mate!
@@theriffwniksevigny5473 thanks!
Randy Rhodes recorded the first Ozzy album with a champ. I have a '52 champ 600 that is so awesome. a blues machine.
😯😯
I didn't know that. Granted Randy's tone is one that isn't highly regarded. He was a huge influence on me but I always associated Randy's tone with Randy but looking back, yeah it wasn't that great.
@Bryan: are you sure?
As far as I know RR brought a champ for warmup before auditioning to Ozzy. Then Ozzy said „play“.
RR started warming up with that champ and Ozzy said „you got the job“ even before the actual audition.
For the album recording he probably used big Marshalls...
Whoa did I just hear an out of phase Tele?!! Did you wire it out of phase in the middle?
Yes out of phase
No to me changing the wiring
The original wiring on old teles was never meant to share both pickups. But sometimes you can grab the in between spot and get both, and sometimes they were reverse polarity
Ok so what Tele is this? I do not remember seeing this one?
I realize that you are relatively new to the Tweed experience so I wanted to offer you a couple of corrections.
Your description of the different versions of tweed cabinets is a bit off. The first Tweed amps were called TV front because they looked like TVs of that era. The Wide panels were next and completely different from the TV front models. Of course, the Champ you have in the video is a fine representation of the Narrow panel era, which most people consider to be ultimate evolution of the Tweed amps.
Around the 7 minute mark you mention the alphanumeric circuit designations. Each character has a very specific designation. Fender used that alphanumeric designation from 1952-1963. The first number designated the decade 50s (5) or 60s (6) when the circuit was introduced. The letter designates the year that the circuit was designed A for 1, B for 2, C for 3, E for 4, F for 5,etc. The last number 1-16 designated the particular model of amp numbered in the order in which they were originally introduced Champ-1, Princeton-2, Deluxe-3, Super-4, Pro-5, Bassman-6, Bandmaster-7, Twin-8, Tremolux-9, Harvard-10, Vibrolux-11 (which completed the Tweed era of amps), Concert-12, Vibrosonic-13, Showman-14, Stand alone Reverb Unit-15, and the Vibroverb-16. On the Twin and Bassman the letter A at the end designates the circuit was modified.
Why can't I think of that damn song at 3:36? Brain fart.
Oh man.. cant you hear me knockin’
@@theriffwniksevigny5473 Stones!!! Arg that's it. Lol
Is it the amp’s reverb?
No. Just watch the video. The amp didnt come with reverb
Yikes! Beano tone and much more from a Tele & Champ.
Makes me look askance at too large a pile of gear. 🤨
Great to hear you playing Nik, it’s like being back in the ‘60’s hearing Green and Clapton on those John Mayall albums.
