I stayed on north Whidbey Island for 6 months at the recommendation of a local prior to purchasing land. I am SO glad that I did. The noise from the jets is absolutely unbearable!! They fly incredibly low over populated areas and are so powerful they shake the walls and windows in your house. My pets were terrified and never got used to the noise. All hours of the day and night...it was awful. I was so glad when I moved away. If you're thinking of moving here, I HIGHLY recommend you rent first so you can experience it for yourself before making a decision to buy.
Thanks for your comment! It's definitely a good idea to experience the jet noise before moving to Oak Harbor. Though we do find there are a lot of people who actually love it! So yes, we agree you should experience it before buying.
I’m looking to buy land in a year hopefully, is there anything I should be weary about? Cause from my viewpoint it looks like a wonderful town and community I would love to give back to
I was born and raised, in Port Jefferson, L.I.,N.Y., and when my son's squadron, was relocated to Whidbey, i came out here, and fell for Oak Harbor! In 2012, it looked about like P.J., in the 50's, & 60's, we just Never had views of VOLCANOES ! AND the winters, seemed snowier, out east ! (2011-12, Three, 2 ft. Snowstorms, in 2 wks, is NO FUN, to shovel, at my age!) Also, the Father, of one of Grumman's chief test pilots, lived down the road from my parents, and when they had a New Plane, he Had to show off the NEW 'BIRD', so we got to see it, at Treetop level ! (So I'm used to airplane noise.) Go Navy!!
@@birdlynn417 these airplanes are called P8's and are derivatives of the B737 passenger liner. now the NG but the next P8's will be versions of the max

Beautiful area, nice people. I was there from 2013-2020. It's isolated but great place to raise a family.

How is the sound of the military growler planes and the roaring sounds day in and day out?
not bad :) the P8's are 737NGs soon to be max
@@robertoler3795 What does that mean?
@@foobarmaximus3506 My family already lives there and so have I. I know how awful the sounds can be and terrifying to every living creature too.
