I've never been so infuriated by a bad umpire decision as in Swiatek's case. So basically the umpire claimed that the call was late and didn't affect Swiatek's action. WTF? For this to be true, the call would have needed to come after Swiatek made her shot, AND Vekic made her shot, AND Swiatek failed to return the ball. So an out call that comes two shots later than the actual shot. The fact that the umpire threatened to give Swiatek a code violation if she kept arguing made this even more outrageous.
She was utterly clueless about what had happened. I've seen that situation a few times: once the 'out' is called, the umpire seems to lose track of the play or forgets about it immediately after, so, by the time she had to make a decision, she was obviously thinking about a different scenario. And unfortunately Swiatek wasn't able to stop and explain the play step by step. It's a really bad mistake, but there's no reason why technology can't help with these blatant situations. It would take much less time than what they normally spend arguing.
That was a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" kind of thing. I said "that was in" before anything happened. It was fairly clearly in, as the replay demonstrated. But it was called out, so play stops at that instant. So, it is a "replay the point" UNLESS the call interfered with the returning player's shot OR the returning player didn't have a play on the ball. Well... not only did Swiatek have a play on it, SHE GOT IT BACK. How it could be ruled Vekic's point, I have no idea. Vekic was going to win the point if the bad call wasn't made, since, for all practical reality, she did win it. Swiatek honestly played it back and Vekic easily hit a winner that didn't count. There is every reason to believe that is what would have happened if the bad call wasn't made. But the call WAS made, which means that Vekic should have been half screwed by having to replay the point.. still having a chance to win the 0-15 point. As it was stupidly, wrongly ruled by the chair, Swiatek got the screwing, since, even though she would have lost the point had it been played out without the bad call, it 100% should have been replayed, by the rules. The chair screwed that up royally, including that she DID rightfully say that the point would be replayed, and then either reneged on that, or forgot what she just said. Crying shame.

Wow, how mature Iga is to keep her composure in such an absurd situation. So bad from her opponent for trying to cheat by confusing the umpire even more.
The line judge in the first Williams and Wozniacki Clip was standing to cover the singles line so obviously just had a bit of a lapse but still will go down as one of the worst calls ever 😂
Very first points of the match, possibly the first call that line umpire had to make, yeah the poor line judge had put themselves in singles mode and hadn’t yet woken up!
I actually thought so too, until I read a comment pointing out that Swiatek pointed her finger to indicate a challenge. I watched the clip again and Swiatek does indeed motion for a challenge basically at the same time as the "out" call was made. In that case, Swiatek stops the point to challenge and it just so happens that the ball was also called "out" at the same time. Therefore, if the ball had not been called "out" then Swiatek's challenge would have gone through and she would've lost the challenge and lost the point. Had Swiatek not motioned for a challenge then 100% I would agree that the umpire made a bad call and they point should've been replayed since Swiatek did indeed return Vekic's ball. So essentially, it's debatable whether Swiatek stops play because the ball was called "out" or because she actually wanted to challenge.
Oh stop she put her hand up saying the ball was out. The ball was in so she was wrong. She called the ball and stopped play herself. She wouldn’t have run to the other ball because she put her hand up and stopped play.

It is not a question of facts but of the application of the rules. And she thinks she has the final decision when that too is a decision for the supervisor to make! Incompetent and quite the bully!!! WTA, do something!!!
I don't understand what the umpire was thinking with the Swiatek/Vekic issue. Swiatek returned the ball in, so whether the call was made before or after the shot, the point has to be replayed. I get judgement calls being wrong, but that wasn't a judgement call it was just a misapplication of the rules. Perhaps this is just the American in me as well but it seems like people are so bad at explaining situations properly. I know what Swiatek was trying to say, she just said it in a confusing manner. The fact that they can't show a tv replay of the point with audio on court to determine what happened is also a travesty.

Let's not complicate things, the Swiatek umpire made one of the top 5 mistakes of all time bc she completely didn't know what happened after the out call and the WTA and ATP tell umpires to stick to their guns no matter what bc it would be a disaster if they admit to missing something or not remembering. So instead of saying she was confused she made a bigger fool of herself by spewing platitudes that didn't even apply to the situation. Once the ball is called out the only thing in contention is if the call affected the player hitting the shot, not the following shot, or in this case the following, following shot haha. The point is literally over so the umpire is saying Iga should have disregarded the out call and Donna's volley And shame on Donna, I like her a bit less just now.
Omg, poor Swiatek!! She was totally right, replay! Vekic totally influenced that umpire, who shoulda just watch a replay to realize one stops playing when a linesman calls OUT! 🙈😖
I love your channel. Can you do an omnimbus of players like Putitnseva, Ostapenko, Paire, Evans, or others that are frequent stars of this channel? lol I love it.
Vekic's volley was on a dead ball. How can the umpire not understand that? Clear replay. Additionally she reverses her original decision to replay the point and says "it doesn't matter what I said". It does matter. You've made a call. She's all over the shop.
I’m sorry, but the first horrible call on Serena is so funny 😂 Like it wasn’t even remotely close to being out. It wasn’t even on the damn line. Serena said, “Can I challenge?” 💀
Exactly!! She's taken over a minute to serve on occasions.A re toss definitely stops the clock or else Venus would have got heaps of those time violations. So the umpire was wrong or lying here
We saw the same exact thing happen with another match like Swiatek. I think is was Zhang? I can't quite remember. But something was called out and she put it back in play, but there was no redo called.
The umpire in swiatek’s game irritates me 🙄 clearly she was in the wrong, but abused her authority to point of threatening a code violation. Also, Vekic taking advantage by saying regardless of the fact, 15-15 was already announced 🙄 clearly understandable to want to win, but very unsportman attitude! Then when Vekic OBVIOUSLY commited a racket abuse, she had the nerve to say swiatek can’t order her to give a code violation 🤦🏽♀️ why can’t they provide the umpires video recall to solve these kind of issues everytime they are unsure of what happened? And I hope the umpires are penalized for every mistake they make the same way they penalized players. So glad Swiatek won the game! The best way to retaliate 👏🏽
The fact that the Iga situation ever became the Iga situation, and the fact that there is no video replay framework used for officiating, and the fact that there is no accountability framework for referees............................ #Frameworks
The reason for the first call is obvious. The stupid linesperson was on the single's sideline, rather than calling the double's line. It is 100% believable that the chair was blocked by her computer. Every chair umpire overrules that obvious mistake if he/she sees it at all.
The time violation rule is so straight forward, I hate when players start to argue about a counter that everybody sees. Like yes Mr Andreescu, the ball has to be served before the timer, that you can clearly see, reaches zero. Even if that never happened to you.
Im actually with Bianca on that, I’d never seen them penalised if they toss the ball before the time is out. Some players toss 3 times in a row and never get penalised. The rule the way I’ve seen it applied time and time again is to penalise if they don’t start their motion on time, regardless of whether they hit the ball or not
These chair umpires are taught to never change a decision. So even in a case like with Iga, where I’m pretty sure you can hear the umpire hesitate when she explains “it didn’t affect your shot” (because she doesn’t believe it herself as she forgot or wasn’t paying enough attention to what happened), she has to sell her decision and move the match along. If the umpire were to listen to the players and change their decision consistently then they would be fired. It’s a horrible situation for both the players and the umpire and I really wish tournaments at this level could incorporate video review because there’s simply no way someone could remember the facts about every point 100% for matches that can often go to 3 hours. That’s what technology is for! Use the human for judgements, utilise technology to keep track of the facts of the point!! That’s it for my little rant about the umpiring system.
There is a clear solution to the "I was affected by the call and stopped playing!" thing. JUST KEEP PLAYING. I doubt she could have returned the shot at any point.
Swiatek was right.. and watching this again I kinda feel like the umpire had no clue whatsoever as to what the rules are and what happened.. at first she agreed with Iga then changed her mind once she saw Donna disagreed.. also she didn't know if she called the score and then said it doesn't matter.. also didn't know if Iga put the ball in play 😂 and generally I felt like she just agreed with Donna because she thought what Donna said sounded correct.. not because she saw what happened.. like.. no offense but why do these umpires still have a job?
I may not be a tennis expert but Swiatek was completely right. If an umpire yells out then the ball is no longer in play. It’s a dead ball at that point.
Where is the VAR or just a simple replay? Why not to use it when it’s accessible? Iga couldn’t get robbed and so many other discussions would disappear instantly!

Every time i see Iga i feel like she's my younger sister and it's my duty to protect her. Love her. Hoping she continues to do well.
That umpire in the Swiatek match was so wrong. How could that be Vekic’s point if the ball was called out?! I hope she was fined for this!!
plus she didnt give a warning for racket abuse
And why didn’t she give her code violation for trowing the racquet ?!
8:11 - Iga Swiatek being the cutest cutsie of all time! What a woman.
I love your channel. Can you do an omnimbus of players like Putitnseva, Ostapenko, Paire, Evans, or others that are frequent stars of this channel? lol I love it.
That first shot was so close you can hardly fault the line umpire for getting it wrong.
Iga's point should be replayed for me because of her reflex after the line umpire said "out"
kosheleva could’ve just admitted she was wrong..
"you can't tell me to code the other player".... how condescending WOW
So true, by the way. You can't ask for other players to be sanctioned.
Did she give her tho? I mean, Vekic threw her racquet ?
Little Swiatek ! Poor thing - you were right. But look at you now girl! That little blip meant nothing in the long run👊🏾 LOOK 👏🏿AT👏🏿YOU👏🏿NOWWWWWWW
In all honesty I think often the umpires are right but with Swiatek she was 100% and blatantly in the right.
10:54: 'Sorry, it's just for your own protection'. The madness of the pandemic at its peak.
Swiatek was the smartest person in the room by a mile
Poor Iga, she was clearly anguished😔
I see a tennis advocate video, i click
The drama with Andreescu is crazy... ive seen games with Venus doing 3 toss ups and never a time code. smh!!
Exactly!! She's taken over a minute to serve on occasions.A re toss definitely stops the clock or else Venus would have got heaps of those time violations. So the umpire was wrong or lying here
I think 99% of the time, when umpires are humble enough to say 18:30 i might have missed it. Then players move on a lot more easily.
We saw the same exact thing happen with another match like Swiatek. I think is was Zhang? I can't quite remember. But something was called out and she put it back in play, but there was no redo called.
Love these vids keep ‘em coming plssss
🙏💚
#Frameworks
That umpire in the Swiatek match is a joke
Swiatek robbed. Vekic could of been honest too instead of trying to cheat.
bianca andreescu is just outrageous.as if she doesn't know that rule on serving
The reason for the first call is obvious. The stupid linesperson was on the single's sideline, rather than calling the double's line. It is 100% believable that the chair was blocked by her computer. Every chair umpire overrules that obvious mistake if he/she sees it at all.
Vekic and umpire in Swiatek match are both pretty unlikeable...
wtf the lines person watching singles line in a doubles match 😂😂 i was as shocked as serena
I can't believe Venice had the audacity to say the call was so late that she'd already hit the volley
The line ump called Serena’s ball out because she was on the wrong line…she was watching the singles sideline instead of the doubles line.
Not often you can see that a line judge got a call so wrong on first viewing (or at all) so clearly as you can on the first clip. Shocking stuff!
First one, the line umpire is looking down the wrong line! She forgets doubles play on the outer tram lines!
Swiatek's situation is ridiculous. Hope the umpire faced the consequences
8:12 so wholesome HI 😂
The time violation rule is so straight forward, I hate when players start to argue about a counter that everybody sees. Like yes Mr Andreescu, the ball has to be served before the timer, that you can clearly see, reaches zero. Even if that never happened to you.
Im actually with Bianca on that, I’d never seen them penalised if they toss the ball before the time is out. Some players toss 3 times in a row and never get penalised. The rule the way I’ve seen it applied time and time again is to penalise if they don’t start their motion on time, regardless of whether they hit the ball or not
Kosheleva is the worst.
In the first clip, you can see the line judge is standing in the wrong position and calling the Singles line, not the Doubles.
Swiatek should've said "Hi Tennis Advocate" at the end 😋
There is a clear solution to the "I was affected by the call and stopped playing!" thing. JUST KEEP PLAYING. I doubt she could have returned the shot at any point.
Why do they keep giving that poor woman a time violation?! Clearly she was pain and something was wrong. How cruel.
Lol the bottlegate
For sanitary reasons we can't give water! It's safer if he dies of dehydration instead of someone providing him a water bottle.
Insanity!
1ga "Hi" i wszystko jasne 😊
Swiatek was right.. and watching this again I kinda feel like the umpire had no clue whatsoever as to what the rules are and what happened.. at first she agreed with Iga then changed her mind once she saw Donna disagreed.. also she didn't know if she called the score and then said it doesn't matter.. also didn't know if Iga put the ball in play 😂 and generally I felt like she just agreed with Donna because she thought what Donna said sounded correct.. not because she saw what happened.. like.. no offense but why do these umpires still have a job?
If we can't agree on anything else, can we agree that umpires should be able to review replay to help them make a correct call?
iga was ssoooooo right on this one. it should be a replay.
No ostapenko or the redhair lady goddamm are they both injured😅
Now Iga is world number 1 and Vekic the cheater is where?
“On a plane somewhere!”
-to quote Maria Sharapova
if you notice what the umpire said in the second clip (swiatek match). "Maybe that's a wrong call, but you have to carry on" 🙃
umpire wants hibino to serve while doi stretching. give violation to doi again not hibino.
Players like Vekic, Yastremska, Cibulkova, Putinseva are probably blood related
Iga queen was robbed. Look at her and Donna now haha not comperable😘
the umpire in swiateks game needs to be penalized by wta ASAP. the mistake was huge, she just needed to pay attention, its an absuurd
I may not be a tennis expert but Swiatek was completely right. If an umpire yells out then the ball is no longer in play. It’s a dead ball at that point.
Collins and Putinseva played dubs together in Madrid. Lol
I always thought Tennis players were soft..... But now I know, their referees are more soft 😄😄
Iga ❤️
i mean in that first one I hope that line judge was benched right away. In what universe was that even close to being "out"
Where is the VAR or just a simple replay? Why not to use it when it’s accessible? Iga couldn’t get robbed and so many other discussions would disappear instantly!
swiatek was done dirty
That clueless umpire clearly had a problem with Swiatek.
lol Vekic stealing points from teenagers. it's come to this😢
Where’s ostapenko?
