  • Almost every fish sold in stores is infested with parasites. And you’re eating them!

More than 90% of some wild-caught fish is estimated to be infected with at least parasite eggs, while more than 75% of filets from wild-caught salmon contain parasitic worms.

What does this mean for your health? The risks are exposed with Dr. Neal Barnard as he joins “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll on The Exam Room Podcast.

    Also covered:

Where do the parasites come from?
What are nonfish sources of omega-3s?
    Do other meats have parasites?

Have a question? Post it in the comments or chat and we’ll answer as many as possible during the live broadcast.

Reality check: There are hundreds of types of worms (helminths) that infect humans worldwide. They come in all shapes and sizes; flat, round, hooked, and barbed. Humans can become infected if they swallow eggs, larvae, cysts, or adult worms living in food, drink, soil, and feces.
Some common worms that can infect adults and children include threadworm, roundworm, whipworm, tapeworm, and hookworm. Some worm eggs, such as pinworm or threadworm eggs, are so small that they can only be seen using a microscope. These tiny eggs can be airborne.
One doesn't have to eat meat to get parasites in your body. A human can get worms by touching objects or surfaces with worm eggs - if someone with worms doesn't wash their hands.Touching soil, swallowing water, or food with worm eggs is mainly a risk in parts of the world without modern toilets or sewage systems. The good news is there are medicinal and Natural Ways to Treat and Prevent Worms. By all means, it is not a green light to continue eating fish.😏

The great thing about a low salt WFPB life is that when you do treat yourself to a vegan restaurant it's a quasi-pshychedelic experience. Saturday we went to a fantastic little place in Vilnius, Lithuania, that had sea food on the menu. Vegan seafood. The salmon sushimi, the lobster, the prawns and the fish and chips with tartar sauce, accompanied with an Italian Verdicio (young fresh crispy white wine) was simply UNBELIEVABLE. Because the creators don't have to contend with all the shit tastes of real fish, I think they can build up their preparation with every step in the process designed for great taste. Most fishes you start with some good but also this dead algeous swamp smell that need to be hidden and replaced. But starting with relatively neutral tofu they can add the seaweeds, the soya sauce, the carrots and the tomato to something so close to the animal flesh that 1 one could not possibly taste the difference 2 tastes better, more subtle, more balanced. In one word divine.
Although I must say that as soon as I took my first bite and tasted this greatness at the same time I got really upset at the realisation that now that taste for seafood is no longer on the table there simply is no more reason at all to destroy our oceans and seas - a mind-numbing realisation :(

unfortunately worms do impact plants as well - it's usually in fruit. Someone did a video showing worms in strawberries. To stay clean (as most of these come from the soil and infected water from non-veganic agriculture) - I consume hydroponically grown food inside my room with filtered water. I do the aerogarden - pays for itself. Most people don't listen to me on that - but that's how to avoid these parasites in even plants! I heard papaya's been used for malaria - maybe you'd not getting enough of certain foods? See "What To Eat & Avoid During Malaria?" on pharmeasy. John Stump, according to the CDC, malaria is the world's most prevalent parasitic disease. A variety of drugs are available to treat malaria, and a medical professional will choose the best option based on factors like the species of the parasite causing malaria, the parasite's drug resistance status, and the patient's status or accompanying illness. For example, The Anopheles mosquito carries this bloodborne parasite and transmits malaria by biting humans. There are five types of Plasmodium.
John, have you considered taking Annatto (seeds), a plant? The seed and leaf are used to make medicine. It's also used as a food coloring agent. People take Annatto for diabetes, diarrhea, fevers, fluid retention, heartburn, malaria, and hepatitis. Beware! - when Annatto is used in foods, it can cause migraines. Just sharing.

I introspect & realise I must have touched them after handling the raw meat. I also have maggots growing in my dustbin after disposing styrofoam which houses animal prodigy for my cats. there are definitely worries of getting worms even as a vegan - because many can be in contaminated water. Water filters are important otherwise you can possibly get stuff like Dracunculosis. There's also the issue with rescue animals too - because they can carry diseases like lagochilascariasis found in cats "Human lagochilascariasis-A rare helminthic disease". Pets aren't vegan and avoiding them keeps us safe.

"Plant-Based Fish" is NOT a good substitute if you are serious about healthy living and controlling what you put into your body. "Commercially prepared vegan fish usually consists of wheat protein processed with a liquid and thickened with a natural starchy thickener, such as ground whole grains or chopped edible seaweed. The mixture may then be combined with flavoring agents, such as salt, soy sauce, or mirin ["sweet Japanese rice wine, a wine made from rice"]."
Along with these, there are other things: "thickeners" (Corn Starch, Xanthan Gum), Sugar, additives, preservatives, etc., in "Plant-Based" Foods. You're at the mercy of food scientists and experimenters as those in the regular food industries. They are in it to make money, having little or no regard for the toll their products are having on your immediate or overall health. Processed food is processed food, even if it's plant-based. Don't jump out of the fish frying pan into the "Plant-Based" fire.
Trust only the foods you grow or those from local farms nearest you. Yes, things are just that bad. If you can't grow your food, limit your purchase to whole organic foods. A meal will take more time to prepare and may cost a little more; For your health and well-being, you are worth it!

Dr. Barnard said fried grease and other oils will push good omega-3 oils out of the body. How does this work?

    • @RK-tf8pq
      @RK-tf8pq Год назад +2

I have seen many articles where they say ratio of other fats (such as omega 6) to omega 3 in diet should not be more than 4. So more you eat oils and other fats high in omega 6, more omega 3 is needed to keep the balance. Thus reducing other fats is a way to reduce your requirement for omega 3. It might be because various kind of fats compete for same available receptors.

Wow an MD that is so ignorant of fish that he thinks they are all carnivores. I could name dozens that are not and I am not even a biologist. What school did this guy go to? Why do you think tilapia is so cheap? They don't have to feed them animal proteins at all, in Asia they raise them entirely on algae in a practice called green water culture, kind of gross and I don't recommend that but they are an example of vegan fish not to mention countless other algae eaters like most sucker fish, fresh water filter feeders, and the grass carps just to name a few that are VERY much plant based.
Most people can convert ALA into the other two if they get enough but biological conversion are very individual as some convert far worse then others and he failed to mention that. And this goes for nearly all conversions, many people cannot readily convert beta-carotene into vitamin A for example which is another point that all of these vegan doctors fail to mention and with estements according to some sources of beta-carotine low responders being as high as 60% of the human race that might be something that they need to address.

The sad truth is humans can get tongue parasites. Maturation is completed in the upper gastrointestinal tract, intentionally or accidentally, in contaminated food or water. In these cases, worms have been found in the mucosal tissues of the lips, cheek, tongue, tonsils, gums, and occasionally esophagus. If you are bent on eating fish, know precisely where (waters) it came from.
