  • Soft plastics are the most versatile lure that will catch nearly every game fish in the world. Due to the pliable nature they have action like no other lures. The key to success is being able to draw a reaction strike by working them with an erratic non linear action. You can work them with a twitching action similar to the deadly "walk the dog" technique. Fish find the constant change of speed and direction irresistible.
Watch Mike Roy and Andrew Ray demonstrate how to fish the 7 inch slug-go rigged with a 4/0 Owner beast hook. Using the 7 inch slug-go we will be catching spring time striped bass on shallow mud flats. We are using Shimano reels, G Loomis rods and 15lb. Power Pro super slick braided line. See the links below for the exact models.

Great video...very useful! I fished a slug-go weightless on top for the first time today and got some crazy blow ups. I've had success with a 6 inch sluggo on a 1/4 oz jig head sweeping it along the bottom with some twitches. Now after watching your video I'll try a 7 inch with one of those lightly weighted keel hooks. Thank you!

Always enjoyed your seminars at the shows 2018, 2019. I'm a newbie to Striper fishing and my boat is a Striper ... Go Figure. I'm in Ragged Rock and hoping to get out soon. Getting it ready and thanks for your tips and suggestions. Still looking for my first legal size

Thanks for watching Aaron, good luck I'm sure you can catch a legal size fish not in the river

Good stuff Mike. Do you find the 9 inch and 6.0 beast hooks good for lower CT river as well or is your preference always 7.5 inch Slug Go (easier to work?). Also, any color preferences during different times of the day/year? Thx!

Both sizes work well, I use the 7.5 inch with a 4/0 beast hook and the 9 inch with an 8/0 beast hook. Color I don't think matters as much, I like white or ice shad.

Mike I usually use TA clips but noticed it totally messed up the action on the slug-go so I’m direct tying to the leader now.
For the leader connection to your braid do you normally use a swivel or direct tie leader to braid? Thanks

I use a uni to uni know to connect braid to leader, you can try using a loop know which will give it good action. I actually use a small size breakaway clip and it doesn't hurt the action. If the clip is to thick and binds in the hook eye it will hurt the action.

Did you guys serious say that Owner is the only brand you believe that has spring-lock or twist-lock swimbait hooks? Man, there are so many other companies that produce them...Eagle Claw/Trokar, Berkley, Gamakatsu; not to mention the several Japanese brands that manufacture them. Not busting your chops about it...but it's hard to believe you weren't aware of this. Nice video either way. Great fishing!

Owner is the only company that has a Center Pin in the twist lock, this is an advantage because it keeps the bait on straight.

I use these whenever I can. Great lure. I have yet to catch a bonefish, permit, salmon or steelhead on one though... ha. ha. So I dunno about "any species".
