Girl you do 1000 steps on wash day. You are going to get tired of any style because your wash days are lonnngggg. I love watching your videos, because you are one of the few naturalistas that give us lengthy content. And I love you for that 😍. But it’s confusing because your hair is freshly grown out from a TWA, it’s not color processed, you don’t use direct heat, and you get professional trims. Yet you take care of your hair like you are trying to repair it from something . It’s literally healthy asf on its own love.
My wash days are shampoo, moisturize, and style . Once a month I do a protein treatment and deep condition if I feel like it . My hair is still doing just fine with my 3 step wash day. Try it for a month. I would love to hear your opinion on it.

I do wash and goes every seven days. And I get tired sometimes of doing my hair. Sometimes life is just too busy and we need Breaks which is why sometimes I protective style. Wash n gos are my signature look and favorite style but Wash n goes aren’t for everybody. They can be a lot of work for us thick hair naturals. Luckily, we have the most versatile hair type and can style our hair in lots of different other kinds of ways. We don’t all have to wear wash n gos. @@zacharydrake156The shingling method seems to me to be long and tedious. A RUclipsr named Ms. Rachel Adina did both the shingling method and the raking method. I prefer the definition gotten from the raking method. She has type 4b hair. She's the only type 4 person I've seen do the raking method. Mostly type 3 people do that method. While type 4 people seem to prefer the shingle method. The raking method seems to me to be much quicker and easier to do plus the definition is superb especially if you use enough products while doing it.

The suns heat isn’t what damages our hair it’s the ultraviolet rays that the sun is emitting. Those rays are what’s damaging to not only our hair but our skin as well. A hooded dryer or diffuser will not emit ultraviolet rays so it will not damage the hair or skin in the same way the sun would! And as for direct and indirect heat I like to think of it as hovering your hand over a pan/skillet to see if it’s warm (indirect heat)vs touching the palm of your hand to the pan to check (direct heat)❤

I hear you!!! I had to do a complete re-think as my hair grew. Like you….I was totally a WnG girl. The only thing that saved me was adopting the Anthony Dickey method. Fairy knots disappeared immediately. Detangling happened nearly on its own and I was SO HAPPY!!! Then came Winter and no more WnG!! I haven’t seen my natural hair “out” since November. I’ve been putting my hair in twists or braids under head wraps and I only do a complete wash day every 14 days. I will revisit WnG when Late Spring/Summer comes along. But right now….My strands and I are on Vacation!! I’ll be watching for your vlogs!!!

    • @ClearAbyss
      @ClearAbyss 9 месяцев назад +1

Me too! Wash and gos only last like 3 days in winter because of how dry the air is where I am. But in summer it gets humid enough where my hair doesn’t dry and tangle so fast. Like you I’ve started sticking mostly to braids, twists, or straightening in fall/winter, and wash and gos for spring/summer.
Also, I’ve kind of ditched combs and detangling brushes. I usually finger detangle now and sometimes “check my work” with a brush or comb if I feel the need to or I’m planning on straightening it.

    • @alisameireis3628
      @alisameireis3628 9 месяцев назад +2

@@ClearAbyss Yep!!! I have ditched denman brushes, etc, too!! I finger detangle and use a small tooth comb to ‘check myself’ at the end of applying leave-in. Last Spring/Summer, my WnG is fabulous….but now my hair has really grown and it’s no longer an Afro and even shrinkage doesn’t get it “up there”, if you know what I mean….It hangs down and out. So, I realize that my WnG is no longer going to be an actual curly-coily Afro. It’s going to be a different more elongated look this Spring and Summer….and I’m not sure I’m ready for that! I was really rocking my big Afro hanging below my neck last Summer. 🤣 Now my braids are hanging past my shoulders and my hair is thick on top of that…so, yet another adjustment will have to be made when it warms up. But regardless, I will “Water Wash” every 2 days with a full Wash Day w/deep conditioner on the 7th day. Of that, I’m sure!! Keeps my strands hydrated and detangled!! Glad to know I’m not the only one dealing with Seasonal changes!! 🥰❤️

I started skipping out on proper detangling and deep conditioning and kept throwing my hair into a "wash and go bun" for two years. I ended up with traction alopecia before I realized what I was doing to myself. Trying to gradually repair it now.

Mini twists...or twists that are not too big, not too small that you can leave in for a few days always work too. For the fall/winter seasons this is usually my go to style. I mainly do WnGs during the warmer months. The twists help with retaining length and since they're a low manipulation type style they help with hair growth as well. I also can pin them up or pull them back or up into different styles.

I’ve been natural for 10 years. And I hated detangling too. What I did was use my pre-poo session to detangle. My scalp was an itchy mess. So came up with this whipped coconut oil concoction to detangle with because oil keeps my hair stretched. I also did this overnight so that I could get a hot oil treatment as well. Then I would shampoo in the morning. This way, my wash day is broken up. Also, there is nothing wrong with trying different styles. I wear mini twists and wearable (med size twists) all the time. Especially during winter. Like now. I have some twists with a beenie. I keep the twists in for two to three weeks then have a bomb twist out. You and your hair get a rest. It’s ok to change. Do what works for you. I love doing my hair. Even ten years later. Hope this helps!

Once i got my favorite wash n go i just kept using those same products and i get the same results everytime...also, hair detangling tool is very important. The felicia Leather wood brush is my favorite for detangling, my hair density is a lot like yours maybe even more. I have grown my hair with you, i big chopped when you did. Have you tried washing every 5 days, maybe your hair would get less tangled. I had these same thoughts and feelings too. Then i made those small changes and they helped me a lot...love your journal i am so happy you share your hair journal with us...maybe one day, i will have the courage to do the same. What you’re feeling is totally valid. But remain truthful to yourself and what you feel.
I feel like a lot of naturals are going through this. I went through this a year ago, bc my hair wasn’t matching my lifestyle. I am an engineer and I live in the UK where it’s cold and rainy most of the time. A year ago I realised that I might need to be a “straight” natural. I wash my hair weekly, a blow dry it and I put it in flat twists for the week. It’s been working for me so far. My texture has loosened a bit bc of the heat, but I don’t mind that. Bc I am retaining length and most of all I am enjoying my hair bc I don’t see it has a chore or as something that will take a lot of my time, or something that I need to have a major logistics strategy behind it. It became easier…
So I say, DO WHATEVER IS BEST FOR YOU AT THE MOMENT. And If then you are at a point where wash and gos are the way to go, do them! That’s life!

Change is a good thing! I think we were smitten by the fact that our hair was actually curly. However, in maintaining the curls involved a lot of other variables such as finding the right shampoos, conditioners and stylers. When all the stars are aligned, we rock wash and goes. WNGs made me fall in love with my REAL hair!Although I am not a hair stylist, I found myself obsessed in perfecting it to the best of my ability. I wanted to do my own hair without spending hours in a salon! Learning WNGs let me know that I have an alternate style. So if I want to go to a salon, so be it especially if I want a different look which can be natural or straight!

Ahh! Thanks for being so transparent. All those steps do seem like a lot of work tbh 😬. I’m really lazy when it comes to my hair so I don’t wanna do too much, but I want to grow long hair. I wash once a week and wear twists (not mini-lazy I said!) and pin them up into like an updo, or just pin up the front to frame my face. Or wear a little beanie on the back. Also, I have about 9 months of growth. My hair is this short and I still don’t wanna put the time in for a gorgeous wash and go lol. And my strands are fine. But I have high density so tangling/ssk are inevitable with wash and gos and I don’t like that 🥴

Once I crossed the "finish line", I realized I didn't have the energy or want to make the time to put in the work needed to maintain it. It was a LOT of work. Neglect resulted in damage, so I had to cut 4+ inches to salvage my hair. I wear two-strand twists now. It's working for me.

I've been doing wash and gos for a little under a year and I'm tired 😴 I'm currently on day 3 of my protective style, which I'm planning to keep for 2 weeks, hopefully I'll be able to regain my wash and go mood between now and then. I've been washing and styling / resetting my hair 2 - 3 times a week 😭. I love the style, and my hair does too, but it's taking a toll on my mental for sure 😂. Whatever you decide to do I'll definitely keep watching 🤗😉

i weld 3 days out of the week for several hours wearing small braids, they are so low maintenance and practical for my lifestyle. before i take them down and wash my hair i do a braid out for a day or two. mini twists and flat twists are also a great option.

I went from wash n go's almost twice a week to crochet braids styles with no leave out. The first one looked good enough for me to try again, but it lasted 3 months before I needed to re-do it. I just sprayed my roots with water when I felt like it, put on a bonnet at night, fluff and go in the morning. I've worn different variations of this same style for a year and my hair has GROWN.

Right, it should not be this hard. My thing is, if I can stack three products on top of each other and get a good wng, then why can’t someone come up with a one and done product for me. I am about to bring out my blender.

No ma'am... I did the big chop in 2020 also. I get tired and want to cut my hair off from time to time. But we are never always satisfied. When our hair is short, we want long. When it's long, we want short. Continue to do your wash and go's. Continue to do your washes, conditioning, steam treatments, and protein treatments. Don't let the devil defeat!!!

I get this way every so often with my wash-n-gos and then I start doing half wash-n-gos, half twist outs. I know what you’re thinking lol, but I’ll wash and go most of my hair and then do a twist out in the crown and top of my hair. It automatically gives me the top heavy styles I love and I don’t have to stretch it with heat. It also gives me more curl control bc I can change the size of my curls with the size of the twists. And if I’m really over it, I twist it back up and wear a half down, half twisted up style and it works for me. Excited to see what styles you come up with!!

My wash and gos were the most difficult when my hair had layers. Now that the layers have grown out and my hair is pretty much all one length it’s much easier. I don’t use all natural products- the redken acidic bonding shampoo and conditioner are amazing and now it just takes me 1hr to wash, detangle and style my hair in the shower. I use a gel and mousse (sometimes) to style and that’s it.
I will say twists are one of my favs to do but it takes me what seems like foreveerr! Have fun trying other styles!

That Redken acidic bonding conditioner is magic. I’ve never had a conditioner that makes detangling that easy. I just started using the matching shampoo but I have already been through a salon size of conditioner and working on a second. 😂

Breaking your hair up in seasons is nice and also keeps the fun. Depending in the climate you live you can do washngos in late spring/ summer and choose some kind of protective style of choice. Corn rows and head wraps are mine for now will eventually switch it up with mini twists/flat twists, etc and if you want some heat styles in winter (blow outs, silk presses). For me is perfect, just before you get bored you switch it up with the seasons. The thing that I noticed is the will to take time do one's hair ebs abd flows and fuguring a styles that you still retain length without doing too much is nice

It would be so interesting seeing you rock different styles if that's the path you go down! Twists, braids, cornrows, etc theres just so much you can do especially in the winter it's great to just tuck your hair away for a week or 2 and helps immensely with moisture and length retention.

I used to be a wash and go girly but the single strand knots had me HATING wash day, plus I wasn’t using a gel (which made it easier once I started using it) so my hair so tough on wash days that I ended up cutting it off and then learned about the gel.

Honest question. Do you really feel like you need all of the different treatments? I think your hair is healthy enough to just do a shampoo condition/deep condition and style without the extra bond treatments. I know when I was ‘doing the most’ with my hair it exhausted me and made my natural hair feel like a job. Maybe that’s what you’re experiencing. I know this is strictly my opinion and I’m not telling you what to do with your hair, but I’ve been where you are and I understand. I also got tired of wash and gos awhile back started doing stretched twist outs occasional flat irons. It’s your hair do what you please 😊 but regardless of the style I definitely cut back on the extra steps and my hair and life are thanking me for it 😊

I was thinking the same thing. I don’t do the Anthony Dickey method but one thing I learned while watching his videos is that I don’t have to apply my styler in sections. I tried applying my gel in two large sections and my hair came out exactly the same as when I was doing all those smaller sections. My mind was 🤯 I have to say though my hair is not as dense as hers. Now I wash, deep condition for about 5 mins, add my leave-in and styler in two big sections and I’m done. I’m not saying this is the case with her, but doing too much will tire you out for sure.

Love the video and how you edited it to let us know what's going on along with letting us watch your washing process. I have always done twists and have maintained short hair for 5 years now and am now starting my wash and go journey. Honeslty twists and chunky braids or even the two braids or two flat twists are styles that I loved to do when I was doing twists all the time. And honestly, I know that as your hair gets longer, the washing process sometimes can take longer. Doing wash n go's for 3 years is amazing and I agree that depending on your hair, especially when it comes to how it curls and the surface texture, some styles such as stretched styles are better. My hair grew a lot back then constantly whenever I wore my hair in twists before I cut it again lol. I say all this to say that twists and plaits are simple, easy and can be however small or large you want depending on the time you have. Only thing is the larger you do your twists and braids, the longer it takes to dry if you're using creams.

I do my hair twice per week still. Only now, I've been doing Twist outs (stretched or unstretched) on Sunday's and midweek do a wash & go. I find that this gives me flexibility to not do the midweek wash if life becomes hectic since I only use creams for my twist outs. Its easier to just spray down with a little water to reactivate what's in my hair already and maybe add more cream if I need to and put it a couple twists. I prefer to do this style on stretched hair even though both ways work for me.
Also, the weather is playing a great deal into my current hair care practices. Since its colder, my hair is drier so wash & goes aren't the best for me right now to do twice per week.

I was doing Olaplex treatments weekly and it made my hair feel weird. So now I do #1 and #3 monthly when I clarify and deep condition (the #4 shampoo is amazing btw). Wash and goes have been my go to for years (during the summer). Winter time, I do stretched styles. I'm actively growing my hair out. For years I keep it shoulder length and very bluntly cut across in the back so the wash and goes could look good (and to avoid a tail lol ). My go to stretched styles include twists, blow outs and roller sets. I don't like twist/braid outs because they tend to get dry and cause tangles (could just be me, everyone's hair is different). And twists can work depending on your hair. You have to have patience when taking them down. And the size matters. I have fine strands in the front of my hair, so medium sized twists work for me. If I do mini's, they are not too tiny. Wash and goes are nice and can work. But they do take a bit of maintenance. I reset my wash and go every 4-5 days. I can't wait one to two weeks. To many tangles. And more manipulation causes breakage and the need to use additional treatments. After years of doing my hair, I'm back to a basic routine. I'm a new subscriber and I love your channel. I will be following your journey. Good luck!!!!

I can definitely relate how you are feeling. I have been natural & doing wash n go for 4 yrs & I’m extremely tired BUT I’m not ready to change (😅). My days are too hectic to add hair a different hair routine at the moment. My hair routine is a little easier than yours-> I only wash my hair 1x a wk & only style my hair on wash day. No refresh during the wk either (since I don’t have time but it also doesn’t look bad) maybe I’ll change it up over the summer.

Just recently had mines cut some inches lower to see if that would assist & it did help but not as much as I would like. Even if I go shorter than where I’m at now there are still concerns with the overall health…. Such as discoloration, detangling/tangling…. If I can ever get to one of them Florida pros to fully access my hair & make it do what it do, I think that may give some relief as well as solutions😄 Loudney & SamHeidi I may be in y’all chair one day🩵 Hope this made you smile Brittany.
