Climbing into your cistern without properly ventilating it first could be fatal. Microbes growing in the tank could generate gases that can displace the oxygen. I recommend you get a blower and put a suction hose in the bottom and ventilate for at least an hour prior to entry. Or buy an oxygen meter so that you can sample the atmosphere prior to entry. CO2 and CO are both heavier than air.

Monsoons have been getting smaller for the last 20 years.
When I arrived in Arizona in 2000 and experienced my first monsoon it was crazy and now it’s like a California winter rain storm, no comparison to the early 2000s.
Best of luck. You’re on the right track.

I hate to tell you how to do your process. So, I'm not. Just thinking out loud. It seems that routing the big roof to the poly tanks first would be the most logical. Then route the poly tank overflows into your big cistern. That way, you always have the poly tanks as your first source until your permanent house is completed.

If you had water go to a tote first it might catch alot of the mud, bird poop, etc before it ended up at the bottom of the cistern. I would think the valve at the bottom of a tote would make it easy to flush clean periodically? I know my water catchment is really dirty, but I only use it for gardening.

Flying ants usually means mating flights. Nuptial flights. The new queens fly off and get mated with the males. Similar to bees. The newly mated queens bite off their wings and find a whole to crawl into to start a new colony. The males die after mating. Great job on your water catchment. I'm so proud of you guys.
