    Wow Mike. Only fifty of the box sets pressed? I did see them on the 1982 Tour a few times. I think I told you this already. Both nights at Shea Stadium with The Who and also at the Orpheum in Boston. No recordings from the 10th at Brixton? Have to agree with you via the spine on the Bowie box. Every now and then I get a release who's writing on the spine goes the opposite way. I usually opt to place file the album's spine writing the correct way even though the album art is upside down. Outstanding update Mike. Always enjoy your buys/finds and the artists/bands that you purchase speaks for itself. Have a super week~

    With regards to The Clash live bootleg set, if I have one criticism of the Clash, it's that they very rarely mixed up their setlist. Of course, with each new year and new album songs were added, but the live setlists never really seemed to change very much. Looking at the setlist for that bootleg, as usual it's very predictable.
    They were an awesome live band, one of the best, but they generally stuck to the hits. I've always found this somewhat disappointing considering their huge output in such a short space of time. Sure, 'Safe European Home', 'I Fought The Law', 'London Calling', 'White Man In Hammersmith Palais' etc etc etc - they're all classics but they never seemed to give much exposure to the 'lesser known' album tracks. For example I've read somewhere that 'Lost In The Supermarket', 'Hateful' and 'I'm Not Down' - all great tracks which would be fantastic live - were never performed live, or if so, maybe only one or twice. Plus from Sandinista, great though 'Magnificent Seven' and 'Police On My Back' are, there are 36 tracks to choose from, but apart from those two, and sometimes 'One More Time', they rarely played many more from that album (OK of those 36 tracks on Sandinista some of them would clearly not work live, but you get my point).
    I love them and 'safe' is not exactly a word you would associate with the Clash live (apart from 'Safe European Home' maybe ;-) ) but setlist wise, I always thought they did tend to play it pretty safe.

      You’ve really started something! 😂 I’m now trawling through my bootlegs. I’ve quickly found Charlie Don’t Surf, Lightning Strikes, Somebody Got Murdered, clampdown, The Leader, Junco, Ivan so I guess it really depends upon what tour is it. Also, it’s that old dilemma for bands that fans want to hear classics and tend to be less happy hearing new material. But without doubt the classics do tend to be included in most sets. It’s a hard one but as you say they were one of the best live bands, their energy was fantastic. You got me trawling the boots now so I shall carry on 😂 Great comments, I really appreciate you watching and commenting. Mike

      @theflyintheointment 4 месяца назад +1

      @@pc31thevinylpoliceman I’m guessing that was one of the Bond’s bootlegs? I had an incredible tape cassette of one of the Bond’s shows which if I remember featured all those songs and finished with Washington Bullets (another one which was rarely played). As a side note I know there were many Bond’s bootlegs, which were varying in sound quality, but the one I had was absolutely blistering - they were seriously on form that night. I’m pretty sure mine must have been a radio broadcast as the sound quality is absolutely second to none and it started with someone saying “lets get on with it, The Clash, in concert…..” before the band launched into London Calling. But yeah, not only one of the best live bootlegs I’ve ever heard, but one of the best live albums I’ve ever heard full stop - official or unofficial.
      Back to the tracklisting - as you say there was a lot of Sandinista material that you mentioned, which does seem something of an anomaly - obviously Bonds was between Sandinista and Combat Rock so I guess it does make sense they played a few songs from Sandinista, but after that and pre/after Combat Rock, most of those tracks got dropped again which is a shame, because they really worked live. I dunno, maybe I’m wrong, but it’s just an observation looking at Clash live videos, bootlegs and online setlists that there was generally a very rigid core that made up the majority of the setlists which they didn’t tend to stray too far from. The Bond’s example is a happy anomaly for me because the Sandinista and Combat Rock phase is my absolute favourite Clash period - I find that period the most interesting in their story, and those are my two favourite Clash albums.
      (PS I wrote a reply to your comment on our Cut The Crap thread which strangely didn’t seem to post - I’ll try and post it again!)

    I'm a massive Clash fan but I've always found it interesting how the band and record label have essentially airbrushed Cut The Crap out of their history and back catalogue. OK you could say it isn't REALLY a Clash album as Mick and Topper were long gone by then, but it is still TECHNICALLY a Clash album. Don't get me wrong - it's one of the worst albums ever committed to record, but I can't think of any other examples where a band has simply all but airbrushed an album from their history.
