Shanling M1s Digital Audio Player: better!

- Though the Shanling M0 Pro is an excellent small player, the slightly larger M1s is just better almost every way…though it is twice the size and not quite twice the price, it just might be worth owning. Few if any DAPs in this price range provide better value or performance. Shanling M0 Pro Digital Audio Player and DAC, Updated Review!
• Shanling M0 Pro Digita... - Видеоклипы
A few days ago Shanling added Tidal streaming to the M1s via a firmware update. Updating is easy over wifi :)
Thanks for the excelent review! I've been loking for a great, in depth comparison between both of them to decide which one to get.
Now, I'm convinced to buy the M1s, mainly because of the wifi and better UX.
Glad it was helpful!
I just bought the M1s a couple of weeks ago, and I am very happy with this little guy...
I totally agree. Great little player / dac/amp!
hi can M1s play video, or just playing music only
@@lonestar02173 No video, just all the audio formats.
Thanks for the video. I received my M0 Pro 5 days ago and I'm very satisfied with it. A larger display and a longer battery life would be great but I'm not going to buy another DAP in the near future, it would be like throwing money out the window.
Enjoy it
That's decided it for me. Excellent review. I've just ordered one
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for your excellent review. I very much agree with the M1S being more value for the price difference compared to the tiny looking M0PRO (for me it's +€64 in the Netherlands Amazon).
Almost went for the M0PRO but I think that little screen would annoy me eventually, and you sir persuaded me😅.
I've just ordered the M1S, gonna update it right away next week. Cheers
Thanks for watching!
Great review, Stephen...you covered all the bases. I, too, have a Hiby R3 Pro Saber and am considering getting the Shanling M1s. Have you compared the sound of these two players using headphones vice IEMs? If so, does the M1s compare favorably to the R3? Thanks again for the excellent review! Sam
I don’t have the Hiby R3 Pro for comparison. I am a firm believer in balanced and already have a significant investment in 4.4mm cables, so the Hiby was never a contender. The only comparison I have seen on RUclips is from someone who’s ears I just do not trust…but my feeling is that it would be a close run thing anyway. I am not sure the M1s is a clear sonic upgrade…more a matter of subtle differences and preferences. What I really enjoy, as maybe you can tell from the review, is the sense of space the M1s gives to music…and that is a very subtle thing. :) Thanks for listening!
@@StephenIngraham Thanks for your thoughts, Stephen - I appreciate it. Look forward to more reviews from you!
Great review...I love your reviews.
Thank you!
Hey nice review. I noticed the recently added doesn’t work yet
I have it in DAC mode right now listening to Apple Music, but I will check mine when I finish. Do you have firmware v1.2? That is the current one.
@@StephenIngraham Yes I do. Every time I add. It’s the same songs
I just checked my recently added and it is correct…latest added music on top of the list. ??
Excellent review. Subscribed.
Thank you!
Great review. I have M0 pro and HiBy R3, M0 pro is so difficult to navigate through albums (for me at least) .
I like to get the M1s. Can you see the album cover when you brows through albums?
Thanks
Most of the time. :) A few covers do not download. You can also set the covers to “large view” but that slows down scrolling. :) Scrolling is considerably more “deliberate” than on the M0Pro, but then the titles scroll horizontally so you can see the whole title or artist name.
waiting for mine to arrive ✌😎👍 my first DAP 😁
I think you will really like it.
5 months too late in the video but this is well done! Thank you, Sir! You made me order one. Hahaha
Glad I could help!
Merci pour cette vidéo , trés instructive 👌.
You are welcome!
Shanling just released firmware 2.0 for the M1s. Easy upgrade over wifi!
@StephenIngraham Is the bluetooth bi-directional , so it´s possible to pair a bluetooth headset (not that it makes much sense) . I ask because my old M0 (not pro) ,have this feature..
Thank you
yes.
Thanks for answering.
Also: did firmware updates in the last 10 months, solve your usb host issues , or is your unit still buggy ?
@@buenso80 I maybe did not do the latest firmware updates as I passed the unit on to my brother some time ago. :(
@@StephenIngraham I see . Have to wait and see then..
It took me a while to take the plunge, regarding this one 😊
I guess my little m0 are still doing its job pretty well . A little too well 😅
is there any option to turn off the lyric from the display? so there's just album cover displayed
In Settings, turn on Enlarged Album Art. When a song is playing after 10 seconds the screen will change to an enlarged view of the album art. :)
does the bluetooth connection smooth or full of jitter?
I have to admit I have not more than just checked the BT to make sure it works.
Do you know how well it compares to the cowon plenue d or any of its varients sound wise my Plenue d has a stupid lock that won't reconise songs on the sd card after it gits 128 gb so wven if i put in new songs i won't be able to play them so i considering changing players but the plenue d sounds really good for its price so its hard to change.
I have not heard the Cowon Plenue D so I can’t say how they compare. Sorry.
thank you so much for this review Stephen, I am between M0 pro - M1s and this truly the best direct comparison. I think its definite. M1s is just...Better. only drawback is the size, but, at least you dont have to live using another dongle.I have one very important question. Can it be connected wirelessly to airplay (wifi) and at the same time connected wirelessly (ldac/aptx hd) to bluetooth true wireless earbuds? kudos from athens greece
Glad it was helpful! I would have to try that. It works with Airplay and wired headphones, but I have not tried bluetooth. :)
Yes it is totally possible! You have to connect your M1s to the bluetooth headphones first…then connect to the M1s via AirPlay from your iDevice. Then play at will! :)
@@StephenIngraham I can't thank you enough for your quick reply and help. I have watched several of your reviews you are very helpful and honest. If I should chooses one review that I would trust to buy something, I would pick yours from all the other reviews that are out there. Thank you once more. Good vibes sent from kythnos island Greece 🏖🌞
@@StephenIngraham I value your opinion so I will ask another question. I will use either of the two with a pair of Sennheiser 660 s2. If that was you which one would you pick to drive these?
@@ChristosTsitselis Definitely the M1s as it has more power.
I am using LG V40 ThinQ for music. Should I upgrade to Shanling M1s?
No phone is going to come even close to the sound of a dedicated Digital Audio Player. Even if you just listen to mp3s you will hear a difference…and with any lossless source the difference is even more pronounced. On the other hand, you could get a dongle DAC for your phone (should work), that would give you much the same sound quality. You can get a good one for less than $100. Of course the M1s is much more convenient and completely self contained. :)
Lg v30 (b&o tuned) sounds better than my hiby r6 2020 dap. I have v40 and v60. V30 sounds better.
@@sampathkumarnarayanan4101 I will admit I am not at all familiar with the LG ThinQ line. They could be the exception that proves the rule where phone music goes. :)
I have had nothing but trouble with my Shanling M1 - I rarely use it now due to CONSTANT problems. Sound. You can't alter the volume. Oh it's got somewhere you supposedly can but it does nothing. The volume on all my ear and headphones are all WILDLY different on each of them, blasting on one and can barely hear another. Bluetooth is the worst Ive seen on anything and thats NOT an exaggeration. I link with one earphone, then next time I use it it doesn't work it delete and try to connect and it refuses to. I wish I'd never bought the ******* thing. I always end up getting out my Sony NWZ A17 which is as it always has been for 10 years, perfect in everything.
As for the quality of sound, its no better than the cheapie Fiio I once had . Actually not as good as that. The Sony - well, sounds excellent and very little difference between what earphones I use on the Sony ! Maybe I've just got a dud one but can't return it now and tried to get in touch with Shanling for help and heard NOTHING back
Do you have the M1 or the M1s…two different machines. My comments only apply to the M1s. Sorry to hear about your troubles though.
@@StephenIngraham Thanks Stephen. Don't know, sorry. Its the same as the one shown above. A steel look to it though. One of my earphones is perfect volume though ! The only one which DOES keep connecting ! The wired ones of course are fine though the volume a bit too high
What do u recommend for android users
The M1s works fine on Android devices…but then so do most dongle DACs.
The M1s is way too BIG for what I need. I replaced my iPod Shuffle with the M0 Pro for jogging, skateboarding and going on walks.
Glad it works for you.
