I have to disagree with you something about his 58' Les Paul brings more emotion to the song, that is why he should always play "Brothers in Arms" with his 58'.

nothing wrong with the Pensa, though some would say its an abomination. Who would of thought of making a guitar that sounds like a Fender and a Gibson, suppose with is age and doing a lot of small gigs it better dragging one guitar than two.

i said it before and i'll say it again. i don't believe that there ever has been, nor ever will be, ever, a guitar performance, so strong, so powerfull, so deep, and cutting through so many layers of emotions, with such powerfull message, as this single masterpiece, ever. It's so legendary, so historical, and so emotional, i think this deserves to be called a 'wonder of the world'. The atmosphere and the entire performance transcends through so many levels of superhuman performance and is only more goosbump infusing amazing due to the humbleness of Mark Knopfler. This performance alone deserves a nobel peace prize.

What happens here is wonderful! He dedicates the song to Mandela. At minute 0:26 he is so emotional he can not talk. At minute 2:26 he has to dry his tears and his voice trembles and at minute 7:50 he can not talk either. This is magic. An artist crying with his own song because the meaning of it. A musician is not someone who plays an instrument, but someone who makes you feel. Music is not a product, it´s something that comes from the heart. That´s why he is one of my favourite, that´s why this is one of the best versions of this song and that´s why I love this song.

This guy is just something else. He speaks with the guitar, he sings and the guitar answers, and what a heart-felt song, this isn't some virtuosistic solo played for the sake of playing, it's a message, a meaningful one too, and most of it wasn't expressed with words.
The only other artist i know that could express things that well and in such an organic way (and with a handful of notes) is BB King in his later years. Just WOW

Not even the original/studio version of this song in particular is in it's vincinity. Live. Non-Commercial. 'No Sweat'. No computers. No autotune. Pure music at it's absolute highest best. I am looking for years and years for a HQ version of this golden piece of music. That is, audio-wise. This song is a masterpiece. I never tire of the guitar after listening to it hundreds of times over the years. Its one of those songs that nobody could cover and create the feeling Mark Knopfler creates. Simply wonderful.

I've seen all of Mark's versions of this, and this is br far the best, so much emotion and feeling, both in guitar and singing, takes you deep into the song, and the solo is breath taking!

Knopfler's abilities on the guitar are unbelievable! That rift at about 7:13 on is amazing, so high up on the neck and yet the sound is incredible!!!
