    The music is by the great Michael Giacchino (Ratatouille, Coco, Inside Out, Up, Incredibles, the Tom Holland Spider-Man films, Rogue One, the Star Trek remakes.... on and on). He's tied with John Williams as my favorite film composer. He's also dabbled in directing (Werewolf by Night, which he both directed and wrote the score)

    As a pet-rat slave, I can say that they got the rat behaviour down to a T. I've had both a Remy (Picky) and Emile (Greedy and would eat anything). They have such funny personalities, and it's captured so well in this movie 😍😍

    My roommates had a lot of pet rats over the years. They're actually quite affectionate and good about keeping themselves clean.
    Voice cast was on point:
    * Janeane Garofalo as Colette
    * Ian Holm (RIP, Bilbo Baggins) as Chef Skinner
    * Patton Oswalt as Remy
    * Brian Dennehy (RIP) as Django (Remy's dad)
    * Brad Garrett (Ray's older brother on "Everybody Loves Raymond") as Chef Gusteau
    * John Ratzenberger (in *every* Pixar film) as Mustafa (the waiter)
    * Lou Romano as Alfredo Linguini
    Didn't recognize Linguini's VA by name, but his shouty/raised voice is distinctive -- he also played Dash's teacher in "The Incredibles". "Coincidence? I think NOT!"

    The story about Anton Ego and his childhood dish of ratatouille is a rewriting of a story by Marcel Proust. Proust was a genius and his works were well known by French people and everyone who love literature one hundred years ago. In his novel, A la recheche du tamps perdu, (Remembrance of Things Past) he describes a moment when he bites into a pastry called a Madeleine, a kind of a tea cake still popular in France. Everything about it instantly recalls the times he enjoyed them in his youth, the sound, the taste, the aroma. Any French person would understand the reference.

    • @joelwillems4081
      @joelwillems4081 10 дней назад

      Yes, the Madeleine's were made in the first "Transporter" film. The detective talks about Proust then as well. Also Ratatouille takes about 3 hours to make. I looked it up after this film. Used to love to cook many different things but don't stray much because food is so expensive.

    The Iron Giant (1999) is my favorite older animated movie and Ratatouille is my favorite Pixar animated movie. What are the odds that one day I see that both movies are directed by Brad Bird, he also did The Incredibles too. Remember when on the Spirit of Adventure in UP, Charles Muntz told the dogs to, "surprise me?" Yeah, that was a reference to Anton Ego from this movie because it came out 2 years earlier than UP. But I love this movie because of the unique plot, the setting and the music is so good. The Ratatouille in this movie is actually from a chef that was told to make it fancy and that's what they did. Confit byaldi is what you see in the movie, but the real version is what you see in Ego's flashback with him as a kid.
    If you want a musical experience, Pixar's SOUL has some really great stuff.

    Hey Lady! Guess what? I’m 54 and have had two mice as pets when I was young, and as recently as 7 years ago I had two boy rats named Piglet and Tazzy. They were sweet as can be, just like miniature doggies, and very clean like cats. You can train them to use a litter box. They come when you call them and their eyes “ boggle” when they are happy…like a cat purring. Rats are used to sniff out land mines too. They are really,really smart. They live on average about 2 years…sometimes more if you are lucky. I rescued my Tazzy after a snake wouldn’t eat him.

    Hey Jen, I and the rest of the movie-watching community had extreme reservations about this movie. Don't get me wrong, if Pixar can meet me like a robot who doesn't talk. A fish that gets lost. ------- Toys that come alive when we're out of the room and a musician who wants to leave Heaven because he has a gig to play. ------- Then who's to say a rat can't be a Michelin chef. I have no doubt that Pixar are Masters at what they do after seeing Ratatouille.

    I love this movie. It is this, and Chef, that are my fav food movies. And drama comedies.
    Chef, with Jon Favreau as a fancy chef not being happy with his life. And Sofia Vergara as his ex from hell, and mother of his son. Well, she seems as the ex from hell at first, but she grows on you. She cares about her son, and his relationship to his father. It also has Dustin Hoffman as the restaurant owner from hell, and Oliver Platt as the food critic from hell. And John Leguizamo and Scarlett Johansson as the best coworkers ever. Robert Downey Jr. is there too, in a minor but important role, as another ex of Sofia's. And she asks him a very important favor. Gary Clark Jr. is there too, when they stop over in Austin, as himself, playing a gig. Great music in that movie, as in this one!

    Good evening Jen. There is a sitcom from UK called Fawlty Tower staring John Clese. There is an episode called "Basil the rat." One of the characters, a Spanish waiter named Manuel has a pet rat that he named after the John Clese character, Basil. Anyone the waiter overheard the chef say that he put Basil in the Ratatouille. So funny 😂😂. The whole sitcom will have you laughing out loud. Have a wonderful New Year Jen❤

    Giachino has made some of the best animated scores. The Incredibles and this taking the top spots.

    Loved that movie so much. I love to cook and I did work in a restaurant kitchen. The details are excellent and a real kitchen works just like in the movie.

    Those who don't like rats have never felt the intense love of one. My little Amber defeated many cages in order to come find me for aa cuddle at 3am. She was an intense fireball of determination and affection. Broke my heart into pieces when she died. I'll never forget her 😢

    Outstanding reaction, Jen! I love all your videos, but there's something very special about watching animation with you, especially when it comes from genius Brad Bird (Incredibles, Simpsons); I "toast his non-idiocy." Thanks for a terrific, fun time!

    it was so charming and adorable yes you as well JEN 😄
    I've worked in a few kitchens myself so i can relate on some level to these antics minus the talking rat .
    Apparently REMY 's expressions were based on a real chef who was a consultant on this movie !
    Wishing you a Happy New YEAR Jen all the best for 2025

    Clarinet driven score nirvana may very well be The Terminal - composed by John Williams. A Spielberg/Hanks movie. I like the movie a lot better than other people do, but as a clarinet player, the score is out of the world. Even if it is for your own amusement, you should check it out. Emily Bernstein was the lead clarinest who sadly died shortly after from liver cancer. She left behind a masterpiece.

    13:52 be careful, I've heard from people that it always starts with one rat but it becomes an addiction and you'll have 15 before you know it. They're very smart and sweet and great pets apparently.
