Sad to see that saab no longer makes cars. Saab is one of the best cars ever made, especially the saab 99. I have been lucky enough to own a saab 99 and I will at all times postulate that it was one of the best and safest cars ever made.
This a awesome video. Stig the father of Tom. The IMSA Champion. Sadly they dont make Saab Cars anymore. But there is remanfacters to keep them going. I wanted a SAAB. and Without the 99 we would not have the beloved 900 turbo.
We had many many SAABs...including a beautiful Silver '77 2-dr EMS with the soccer ball rims. LOVED IT!!! One of my absolute favorite SAABs. The 99 was such a handsome design. I would absolutely love one today. So many wonderful memories.
@@jamesdecross1035 The EMS rally was only with injection and initially had 8 valves, just like it says in the movie. The year after the first SAAB 99 EMS rally, an engine with 16 valves was built. The SAAB 99 Turbo in rally, was a completely different story, with a different engine and came in 1978. EMS Turbo does not exist.
99 was probobly the only rally car with stock crancshaft and conecting rods forged by famous Bofors, known for producing other stuff.... Amazingly robust engines.
It is not only the first Rallye Car with Turbocharging, it was also the first winning with Turbocharging. Stig, Rallye Sweden 1979! Learn this Chat GPT!!!!
You are correct about, Stig winning in a Saab 99 Turbo, in the Swedish rally in 1979. Yet in this case it was in 1977 and the car had no Turbo, but EMS. It got the 16 valves in the process - as stated in the video Which turned out to be a huge improvement, for the coming generations of Saab owners
Here is an official Saab video, that suit’s the title of this video better Unfortunately shorter, yet it includes Stig’s win in the 99 Turbo in the Swedish rally of 1979 As well as why Saab stopped in rally ruclips.net/video/XTKnx4gM_IE/видео.htmlsi=E4_ibhwS01hdMHVt

We had a silver EMS l love how the engine came alive at 5.5k and just lit up
@@badgers1975 hmmm. I thought 5.5k was pretty close to red line. I only just got my license back then, so I was taking easy on the cars.

I don't get the title of this video, the whole video was purely about the 99 EMS (non-turbo)
The EMS rally car was turbo-charged, and the first 3-door turbos were known as the "EMS turbo".

This in terrific film, many thanks - but a great shame the deterioration of the film quality overtime. Almost not worth watching.
Love the early double overhead cam, 4 valve engine!
Beautiful machine

I must've watched a lot of Rally when I was a kid in the 70's that I had forgotten about because I had heard of every driver mentioned.
That drift at 3:24... dang!
The in car audio and video is Bosch MechFI and a turbocharger - almost like an R5 Turbo2 in sound! :)

EMS har ingen turbo!
Nä, inte den jag hade iaf.
