I Searched FOUR THRIFT STORES for CAMERAS ! - POV Vintage/Antique Film Camera Thrifting Connecticut

  • Graced with an absolutely stunning Sunday off, I headed out (late) to FOUR different flea markets/thrift spots in the western CT area. First stop was the New Brunswick Indoor Flea, which was much larger than I was expecting from the outside. Lots of variety, but I was caught a bit unprepared for the $1 entry fee - luckily I had a single George Washington on me to get in.
    Next I ventured just down the road to Wright's Barn, a two-tiered, flea market-style spot with a café attached. Downstairs I found plenty of holiday themed trinkets, glassware, and things that will make your home look like it's straight out of a Farmhouse Pinterest page. Upstairs I found some very friendly vendors who were more than happy to strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone. Found a few cameras, too, but nothing that really stood out to me.
    From there it was about a 20 minute trip to Collinsville Antiques, our third stop of the day. Tons of booths, nothing of any real substance for camera gear. Nostalgia out the wazoo, however. Really cool place if you like Hess Trucks, or old Americana.
    Leaving Collinsville I thought I would have ample time to reach Antiques on the Farmington with enough time to browse before they closed. After swiftly missing the entrance, I got about 10 minutes of searching in before they started shutting the lights off on me (and a few other late shoppers). Not wanting to be a bother, and running out of free time myself, I called it a day and set sail for MA via some amazing backroads at sunset.

      @@lanejpegthat Canon A1 has an electronicaly control shutter, taking an assortment of batteries with you Can make testing them possible when you encounter cameras that will jot opperate otherwise. The A1 is a pretty cool camera offers some nice priority shooting modes as well as full manual but does require batteries. Even of it did fire though they still do jave a few issues much like the AE-1 that came before and the AE-1 Program that followed. I feel your pain when hunting and coming up empty handed. It can be depressing seeing soo much junk that's just over priced if it was a dollar.

    Thank you for sharing your thrifting. Always a pleasure to watch. Here in Germany we don´t have as much thrift stores. At least in my area. These prices for the polaroid sx 70 is getting out of hand

      Thank you for watching! SX-70 prices really are getting to be much higher than the camera deserves.

    At least you saw some cameras. I tried making a thrifting video two Saturdays ago and like you came up with nada after going to eight different thrift stores. For me it’s been a desert out there since Christmas. That Canon A1 at the end looked ok. Was my first camera though so I have a soft spot for it.

      Some days are going to be better than others, but the good days are what keep us going back! If I didn't already have an AE-1 I would have considered taking it home. Hope you have better luck next time!

    Great video just subscribed. You're really good at speaking to the camera and showing off the cool shops. I could do without the swearing (like when you missed the turn on the way to the 4th shop) as it takes away from the relaxed/chill vibe of the rest of the video and your polished presentation skills (like your 4 camera overview at the end).

    Untested even 65$ is amazing. However you can only fire off the shutter with a battery in. I bought an A-1 tested in store for well under the usual 150-200 cost.

    • @lanejpeg
      @lanejpeg  Год назад

      While I do agree with you on the pricing, I already have an AE-1 with a power winder sitting waiting to be cleaned and tested. Better to leave it for someone else to find!

    Funny to find this video randomly and see you go to Collinsville. My grandfather used to work there when it was Waring and most of my camera collection came from him.

    I wish I had thrift stores like that near me! a bust ?I'd been tickled silly to have found that box with all the lenses there were two cameras that were vintage film cameras I'd given a very serious going over with the strong likelihood of being purchased!

      @@lanejpeg I’ve watched most of your vids, you really need a clip on mic, you seem to do a little mumbling, I am very interested in what you said, however going back several times didn’t help. I do enjoy the slight jazz you play I found myself enjoying that quite a lot, and it’s the perfect volume. Also I noticed that at times you post the manufacture and model, I found myself saying he should include release date, release price. Good luck you are doing a good job, but time to take it to the level.
