Lyft driver here. I'm in Los Angeles, of all places, and I wasn't even getting $3 for a minimum fare, and that's why I stopped driving a few weeks ago. I cannot pay for gas and maintain my car with those kinds of payments. And people here 95% of the time do not tip. So I'm kind of done with this nonsense.

I’m about to hit 5 years with Lyft and I’m at my breaking point. Gas prices definitely play a huge part. But Lyft doesn’t care at all! Friday at Stagecoach I was flagged AGAIN for going off the passengers destination due to forced road closures, detours and traffic control officers ready and waiting to give drivers $1000 fines if we don’t follow the rules of the road during this huge music festival. So because I went off my route, Lyft froze my Express Pay for 48 hours and the next day they sent me an email accusing me of fraud and intentionally going off my routes. WHAT? This is unacceptable and debilitating and customer support does not care. They are useless. When it matters most, they treat drivers like we are nothing but a car. They’ve held my pay for three working days now knowing the gas prices are skyrocketing and expect me to continue to work until they finish a bogus review. Ridiculous! If they think I’m doing something wrong, why are they allowing me to continue to drive? They make drivers feel like criminals. They did this exact thing to me last year at Coachella, and this year at Stagecoach. They take advantage of their loyal drivers and force us to sleep in our cars if we cannot pay ourselves because of their broken algorithms that are designed to cause pain and suffering to hard working drivers. I’m so sick of it! I sent David Risher 4 emails, and nothing. I reached out to Lyft through X and again, they can’t help. This is why they are desperate to hire drivers. They can’t or refuse to treat their current drivers with dignity and respect. It’s mind blowing to me. How hard is it to treat people decently?

@@UberDriverChat they have an algorithm that automatically triggers a hold on being able to get paid for a minimum of 48 hours if you go off your route. At this point its been almost 72 hours. I’m still unable to pay myself. Even after I explained over and over again that streets in a 6 mile radius were either closed, or had forced detours and police presence directing drivers to only go certain ways at different times all weekend. I’m glad you don’t have this experience with Uber. You’re lucky.

Ive been driving for Uber & Lyft full time for the last 4 months…
Last night 2 passengers entered my car with masks 😷 (covid style) and hoodies. They then ask to change the location but say its further and if its ok. The obvious answer is NO from all drivers…
They the instruct you how to pull the pencil up on you driver app to manually change and claim their relative showed them how since he drives for Uber…
They give a confusing address that doesnt seem to work after multiple tries. This is in an attempt to have them give them your phone…
Here they can quickly transfer money or simply leave and steal your phone. Worse off… its opened.
This happened to me in Santa Ana, CA.
I would love to get on the show and give more details

That's why they can do this. Capitalism and competition at work. The problem is, they do not know the quality of the driver and do not care. They will pay some random foreigner or criminal more to sign up and drive a few months. They will bait and switch him too. But maybe he will stay for less pay. They can lose your entitled arse.(What Uber thinks)
I repeatedly get good pay if I never accept anything. But they just won't give you enough rides. You have to work 3x longer to make the same pay at less cost as some one that takes everything. They want you to pick your poison. Loss of time or loss in cost to operate percentages.

Unfortunately, I dont accept rides that are under $12. Even though it takes me time to cherry picking , the whole day to make money, whereas before, it took a half a day.
In my area, they are offering challenges for $60 for 25 rides by Friday. I will guarantee that the same rides will be more time and more miles at less take rate.
For example, 1 hr 23 minutes 77 miles for $44 plus tolls does not equate to $32 an hour.
Uber and Lyft are operating the transportation services industry like they are selling products not services.

Base fare should be about $7 for rides under 2 to 3 mile radius and about 10 mins.
But the only fair way to price rides should be miles and time. On the low end $1.20 to high end $1.50 a mile and 0.45--0.55 a min.
In my market I see $4.00 rides...which most drivers I know don't take. I do take a few that are just going around say a few blocks, or a certain radius or riders I've had before who I know are pleasant riders who usually add a tip to make up for the low fare.
I enjoy driving but the ride pricing has gotten very discouraging. Weekends used to be money makers but it's sad to see what weekends have become...low priced rides with no surges or decent incentives. I used to stay out longer Thursday to Sunday nights because of the fares, surges, quests etc but it is very difficult to do that these days with the low fares at night.

A minimum trip here from ping to dropoff takes on average from 15 to 20 mins.

At this point, it is obviously no longer a matter of incentives, bonuses, challenges, etc., but just paying drivers an economically rational, sustainable, and fair wage, considering all the investment and costs involved in doing this kind of gig, i.e., owning and operating an insured, safe vehicle, including gas, washes, maintenance, repairs depreciation, etc , a AAA membership, owning a decent smartphone with an unlimited data plan, transponder for fast-track lanes, and let's not forget about Uncle Sam and our state and federal tax obligations. If the work doesn't equate to the time and expense, then people will stop providing service. It is that simple.

Oh and I can tell you, that when you are in a surge area and you get nothing, is because Uber is looking for drivers miles from your area to give them the trips close to you, and they basically offer this passanger a closer driver for more money.
2 passengers already have confirm this to me, no ti mention that yesterday,.while had a trip I got a second trip the second one was like 4 dollars something, but after I finish I decided cancel the second one, and guess what the area was engolfed in red with $13 dollars of incentives, and was less than a mile away from me, and the trio they threw at me was in that area and included nothing.🤦
Sad thing for them as I quickly reach the $13 dollar area and got $17+ dollars for a 1.5 mile trip both ways.🤣🤣🤣
After that trip the AI started to throw me garbage, drive 5 miles to pick the passenger and 6 to deliver them to the destination for $6.🤣

The service fees they are charging me on the Reserved airport trips I take every morning are outrageous, especially with the ridiculously inflated commercial insurance charges.
Since no government watchdog groups seem to have any interest in looking into this, I can only assume this is all part of UBER’s grand plan.
Take the losses until the taxi companies go out 4:48 4:48 business then cash in on both riders and drivers until the government is forced to take action, then shut it all down.
