      @@thedubdoctor Ridiculous, Take a good numbers matching motor out one chassis and slap it into some crusty critter. Third motor for Digby. Makes a difference. Always keep your original motor and trans on a stand even when you swap. Drive any motor but their is only one original. Hint.

    Been following the channel on and off now for a few years, nice to see Joel making some videos. That beginning was certainly very creative. Also nice to see somebody working on cars who's also still learning (don't take that the wrong way) and making little mistakes because they're the same mistakes that we'd make on our cars while working on them on the drive. Looking forward to the next video.

    Thanks for not letting Digby die, Glad to hear a suitable donor engine was available. I really have watched this channel intently for several years wanting to get a MB w123 wagon but sadly, few affordable units available here in Hungary, most affordable ones are rust buckets or completely beyond being worth purchasing due to owner neglect. I wound up buying a used diesel BMW 5 series wagon that the previous owner imported from Germany. I hope to one day find a w123 wagon but they are hard to find. Love the channel and staying tuned for the next installment of saving Digby. I find many of your MB video topics to be applicable to other brand European cars also. Thanks.

      My hope is with the information we get by pulling Digby's engine and doing a proper tear down and being able to film all the parts and pieces will allow other driver / owners of w123s to better diagnosis their issues without the need of a transplant. Thanks for watching! - Joel

    The dream sequence was so funny! Loved it! When you said that the engines were going to be pulled out on the ground, I literally said “OMG! Why?!” I’m sure you’re tired & sore now and regret that decision, lol!
    Kent’s diagnosis of gasoline in the engine had me shocked, but it had to be something that burned really hot. Can’t wait to see the postmortem on the engine!

      Those type of MB diesel engines are super reliable and were also placed in its commercial vehicels.
      The 512 van/truck (you can park digby in or on the back) you need a big rig license in Europe to drive it, it can haul 5Tons of cargo.
      Those same 512 were also used alot by the military, police and armoured money trucks.

I believe I've diagnosed it as a B2 Seal and piston I have to get my eyes on it to diagnose further. Thanka for all the knowledge kent it is INVALUABLE

    In Denmark 70% of all taxis are w212, w213 e200 and e220 vehicles, the cars are in service for about 2-3 years and then sold at Mercedes dealers, most of the cars at this point has about 300-400 thousand kilometers on them and they sell for about 40000 to 70000 usd! The cars normally reaches 500-600 thousand kilometers with the first owner after its taxi life before getting exported or some times, depending on the condition resold. We just exchanged our old 2014 e200 with 500 thousand kilometers to a brand new w213 e250. I know this is much newer cars but the point is if a Mercedes is well maintained and serviced as described by Mercedes, the engine and transmission will last a long time! Our old w212 had som repairs done to it, first the chain was replaced for free at 350 thousand kilometers, the torque converter was replaced at 415 thousand kilometers, 2/3 of the cost where covered by Mercedes even after the warranty had expired, the last repair was the injectors which where cleaned at 450 thousand kilometers at a price of around 150 usd.

  • @christianwc9458
    @christianwc9458 5 лет назад

    Love the video & editing style!
    Also recently installed a rebuilt injector, balanced & pattern-checked myself (om601). The old leaking injector was bought online from a supposedly reputable place - but after a couple thousand miles I found leaking between the injector body halves. I think they went ahead and lapped the surfaces wrongly. I put a new nozzle in an old injector body which was never lapped before, only slight discolouring on the surfaces which were not in contact with eachother. Everything cleaned, lubed in diesel and rotated slightly to seat better, then torqued, spray/pattern-checked and installed in car. Slight nailing on first start but cleared up after some time and a couple italian tune-ups (on a warm engine). All injectors are dry now, when looking at the engine bay.

    Most W123 owners do not have a donor engine, so please clarify whether you can remove the cylinder head and replace any damaged valves instead. I have a vague recollection that on a W123 you need to support the engine and remove a crossmember before you can remove the sump and bearings to remove the pistons and fit new rings? 🤔

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  5 лет назад +2

      Thats my hope by doing it this way. We'll be able to film things differently if we tear down the digbys engine - The goal would be to show ways for others to fix these issues without having a transplant on hand. Or for those that do have a transplant - That option as well. Sounds like we're pulling the head on Digby for filming number 8 tomorrow. So stay tuned! Thanks for watching :) - Joel

    Finally, a Digby update. I've been checking everyday. I still have one basic question: What are the economics of keeping Digby alive? How much did the 1981 300SD cost to bring home? How much would it have cost to do just a straight rebuild? What other options would be available to a Mercedes owner? You guys are lucky'; you work on Mercedes' everyday and have a wide range of space and tools. I am curious to hear the numbers for us mere mortals.
