As someone who has a gigantic soft spot for The New Reign, this song makes me very happy.
Also, the second the solo started and you said "this sounds like... uh..." I immediately said out loud "Polyphia" hahaha it's probably the tremolo bar flutters that did it. Check the intro of Aviator by Polyphia, it's got the same technique (you slap the whammy bar for lack of a better word and it '"flutters") and Polyphia does it a lot.
