I was a walking scorer at a PGA tournament and got assigned Daly's group in the late 90s. He couldn't have been nicer to us volunteers. It was awesome to watch up close and personal. He signed his glove and gave it to me in the scorers tent.
His meltdowns were epic. Ever since I saw John win the PGA in 91', he's been great for golf. Got tired of watching the stuff shirts with zero personality play. I have also seen him in person twice and he is very personable with the fans. Once during a pro-am day, a small girl gave him a hat to auto graph. Daly put the hat on, played the hole, took it off and signed it and walked over to the girl to give it back.
Love John Daly ! Very down to earth guy who is incredibly talented . Tiger Woods has commented several times about Daly's natural talent for the game , once saying if he practiced more he would be one of the best all time players. Daly himself has said he doesn't much care about practicing . He just goes out there and "wings it" each tournament and whatever happens , happens . When asked recently if he had any regrets he simply said , "NOPE" ! Got to love the guy !
Golf is one of those sports where you know you have a perfect game going and all of a sudden one shot destroys your whole game you know you can add on 15 strokes on one hole and you could be 15 under leading the tournament when this happens and something like this can be really dramatic
And for that, the game is very cruel. But that is why the only way to survive a mishap is to put the mishap completely behind you and focus all of your attention on the current shot.

It's a mental game you know and when you think that you can't do it anymore you're done and it's just mental it's a mental side and it's if you can't control your mind you're out of the game no matter how good you are you have to strengthen your mind so that you can get through the worst situations and then be able to bring up some great shots out of nowhere and that if you can't do it then golf is going to get the best to you whether than you get the best out of golf
I wish John could have won more than 2 majors. Maybe like 4 or 5. He really was that good and definitely inspired Tiger to grip it and rip it and take chances.
Sometimes I think John Daly blames everyone except himself it's really annoying how he really likes to point the finger instead of accepting he himself is responsible for the bad things that happened to him not anyone else and enough with the sob stories we all have them you're not the only one whos had to deal with shit in their life.
