Great advice, I wish more pool owners would take the time to educate themselves and protect their investment. So many people just fill up the chlorinator with 3" tabs and wind up with CYA off the chart and pH so low my test strip can't even measure it properly (bright yellow). I never knew the 7.5% rule, that's handy information for pools with stabilizer too high until we get it down.
I was only testing for chlorine and ph as a new pool owner. Thanks for the video, I am now testing for more parameters as i made the mistake of using tablets.
How about a spa that is always either covered or has a large umbrella covering it from the sun if we are in it during the day. Otherwise it is exposed only to the night sky. Do I still need CYA at all? Can I just use pure chlorine without stabilizer? Or bromine without stabilizer? Can my acid be zero as long as there is no direct sun exposure?
I've been doing pools for 32 years and I can say he's freaking pretty smart and I like that about him. There's nobody that knows more about pools than me but I enjoy the fact that he's getting as smart as me. No disrespect to him. I just love anybody that knows pools as well as we do. By the way I'm 941 POOL GUY but I'm proud of him. Just gotta say. I wish we could work together to change the pool industry for the people.
I maintain a outdoor pool and spa at an apartment complex. The spa uses a commercial chlorine tab feeder which I put a half of a 3in trichlor tab in daily in order to keep the FC from not being zero in the morning. The problem is the CYA continues to keep building up even with vacuuming to waste every day. Tried cal hypo, FC goes to zero within 3 hours because of the higher temperature. The CYA is usually 150ppm before I do a complete drain and refill once a month. Should I just use more chlorine soon before draining to remedy the higher CYA? Thank you.
Loving you videos, I just found your channel today...question about your ratio...do you know where you found the science behind that chart (I see the charts, but not the science)? I'm a county Environmental Health inspector and I'd love to geek out on the research. Thanks!
Thanks so much for the kind words. Essentially, the chlorine needs to be 7.5% of the CYA to remain effective. So if the CYA is a 100ppm, then that means that the chlorine should be around 7.5ppm to keep the pool sanitized properly.
I use the trichlor tablets in my 30,000 gal pool. What tablets do not have the stabilizing them? If possible I would like to back down on the trichlor and add in something else.
They sold me a stablizer, because the chlorine level was low or not registering. I was told to either, remove an exvessive amt of water or empty the pool, which is app 55, 000 gallons. My question to to you is there another solution? A safe Destablizer or an Outdoor Bleach. To open pool I was told to put in 15lbs of Alkalinity increaser,4lbs of ph up,6lbs of Uv block and 8 gallons of liquid shock.
We generally use liquid chlorine, muriatic acid, bicarb, calcium flakes and granular stabilizer. We rarely use tabs, unless it's a rainy season or a leaky pool.
I think you full of it...so what if your free chlorine is 7 vs 2....your out quicker...cuz your still vacuuming, netting, skimmers...I think some tabs after doing all the other things is completely fine

Thank you for the kind words! I am trying hard to change this industry and been seen as legitimate as an electrician or plumber.

Have a chem feeder so you can dose the pool with liquid chlorine and acid when it needs it?
@@ChlorineKingPoolService no it’s all manual operated.
@@ChlorineKingPoolService I bet you sell those chem feeds

They have cal hypo tabs with no trichlor in it. I would recommend replacing the feeder though.
Chlorine King Pool Service so I guess using both in the same pool Isn’t recommended? Trichlor and cal hypo.

What was your stabilizer reading at?
What chemicals do you use in a weekly basis? What should I do if I can’t use tabs? Just liquid?

Chlorine King Pool Service Thank you for the reply
Of course. Anytime! I try to reply to everyone.
Lazy pool boy try and just add tablets and walk out tablet have stabilizer I hate when I get pools like that
