If you want to plug in multiple scart cables into a single source (TV, upscaler, whatever) you've probably looked at those cheap splitters on eBay, and one way or another you've probably learned that they don't work. I've got mine working by cutting the +5v lines on the circuit board, which apparently the Sega Genesis doesn't need, but the Super Famicom does. You're mileage may vary, as I don't have any other scart-using systems to test.
Pins 8 and 18 were the ones I disconnected on the board, may be different for pal systems:

    TLDR;
Cut the power circuits on a cheap scart switch to at least use it with your Sega Genesis.

    Cool.
I was wondering why there is no switch on these things.
The information here is good enough to know the problem.
A "DPDT On-On Or Off" slide switch would properly fix two of the ports on that Scart switch.
Maybe some other 4 state DPDT slide switch could also fix the four port Scart...

The mechanical switches are much better. It isolates the video signal for each connection, the audio isn't isolated however, but it's far less problematic than these "splitters" used in reverse like you're doing. Also means you can have a fully populated switch without any noticeable degradation.
Of course, there are far superior products out there, but I love the brutal simplicity of the mechanical switches.

This is a splitter, not a switch, hence your issues.

By cutting the voltage to pin16 you've effectively disabled RGB and forced the Genesis back to using composite video. Not very smart!

It looks completely different from composite. Pin 16 probably still gets its power in that mess of cables at the top of the board, if that's how it works.

Global Garage I tried for myself on the same board shown in the video and my Genesis had a clean, noise free signal, my Snes was another story but nothing out of the ordinary for me and my snes

@@SaturdayXIII you're wrong, you have significantly degraded the signal

@@RUTGERMORTENSEN then why does it look better than the stock composite cable? It's night and day difference.

I did the trick, but the Mega Drive video becomes composite, not RGB. But, by the principle, I can add a power switch that will only get the +5v from one of the three inputs, so only one will work at a time. I will do the soldering next weekend and let you know the results.

For RGB you need extra 3v on pin 16 (5v + 180 ohm resistor).

You bought a splitter, not a switcher. That device s for the oposite function. So a Switcher is to place 1 outout into different inputs, AKA different monitors at the same time. If you bought a switcher then some selction buttoms should be available at the device, the splitter dont need any selction the purpose is show teh signal at the sam etime, so al your problem begun at the moment you pick up your device on your buying.

Hi, welcome to 2016. I was aware it's a splitter, but many stores referred to it as a switch, so I kept the pattern for keyword friendliness. Regardless, this video is about how I made the device work for me.

@@SaturdayXIII xD lol so at 2016 and you still didnt realized it wasnt a switcher and it was a listing error? I am not even from a scart zone dude. But nice work indeed.

My idea was to buy a bunch of SCART to Composite cables and run them through a Composite splitter. Its like fifteen frames of input lag and audio would be a mess of wires all over the place, but at least the games look decent.
