Let's see if we can work out why!
    Hope you enjoy!

My father was a watchmaker and had a small jewelry, optics and watch shop when I was young. Here in Germany those "Game and watch" things were sold under the "Seiko" brand in watchmaker's shops. So I was a very happy kid in the early 1980s. It was always a challenge for me, though, to keep those things clean and un-scratched so my dad could still sell them when I was done with the game.... Nice memories.

then again ; back in those days dedicated video game stores didn t exist or close to non existant. youd find stuff in big stores but most of the time ( you"d get your consol or other electroonics from Sears ; radio shack & co in usa ; and either supermarket chains or dedicated shops like Darty or FNAC; for the game & watch stuff you d go to a watch store.

@donnierussellii4659 Seiko also did a collaboration with Capcom for Street Fighter V watch. But yeah, Seiko definitely didn't make any video games handheld. Personally I was never a fan of Game & Watch always thought they had inferior games that weren't that fun to play.

I wanted to give you an advice multiple times, but this episode is perfect for it. Never make any "hard" structural connections that "fight" against vibrations/deformations. It's much more reliable to make the connections using thinner wire and allowing them to float/bend/flex in those cases where a contact has potential to move. This comes from many years of experience. I did this mistake many times before :)

Agreed, and let me add another advice to this. When repairing battery corrossion damage, work extremely thouroughly or the forming of new damage will go on. Remove ALL "chrystals" and rinse the PCB to neutralise this stuff, or it will go on eating the PCB.

  • @Dukefazon

Every time you are dealing with stuff like this always suspect a battery leakage because people always leave the batteries inside these little thingies. And always clean the carbon pads, maybe it's just dirty contacts. Also, check the faceplate that came off, the sound issue might be something as simple as you didn't turn on the sound (the faceplate shows which button does what).
And when you are repaining corroded traces, make sure you remove EVERY bit of damaged material because the acid that caused the damage can still seep forward under the OG soldermask if you don't clean it properly. Fixing the currently broken trace is not enough.

Quite a bit different than the gaming I do today! While I do love modern day gaming, I'd honestly go back to those old days of I could. The world suck a whole lot less then.

This was exactly that game that started how Nintendo came to Sweden. Owe Bergsten the owner of the a small radio dealer (Bergsala) visited Japan in 1981 where he bought it on his way home. Later Bergsala did a collaboration with Nintendo for Sweden and later the entire Nordic region (except Iceland).
A fun fact that Sweden could have been the first in the world to bring in the Famicom (outside Japan). But Nintendo pulled out when the deal was almost done. Nintendo decided to wait with the launch of the Famicom in Sweden because Nintendo of America was going to test the market in the fall of 1985 in New York for a redesigned model that was named the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). In addition, Nintendo thought there would be problems if Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland had a Famicom console while the rest of European countries had an NES console.
Edit: Thanks for all the love (thumbs up) guys!

I really wish Nintendo would do a phone app of theirs to do this or some kind of game suite package on Switch/sequel handheld. I've still got Super Mario Bros, Pinball, Bombsweeper, and Mario Cement Factory (and the Nelsonic Zelda Watch) so it's better than nothing for sure, wish I still had Climber and Balloon Fight but the prices are what nightmares are made of. :D

You should try to communicate with little Gordon the gopher. I think he may be very helpful.

My father bought me this game whilst he was working in 1981 in Saudi Arabia at Dubai airport. Brings up a lot of memories. I've never been able to reach the mandatory 1000 points. Wondering if it's still available for purchase somewhere..

I had one of these as a kid. I played it for hours on end.
I sold it years later. I still regret it.

    18:24 Don't blame the auto-focus, blame the cameraman ...
18:34 To avoid that kind of damage you can do a tiny loop on the legs. Then it won't be any pressure on the solder masks.
