I think Vergne had the worst luck of all RedBull Juniors ever sacked. He beat Ricciardo in 2012 and Kvyat in 2014 for getting sacked and chased in to Formula E.

Did alex really had old parts and an 2019 engine ? If tru he basically had an alfa tauri and that would make his season impressive
well he didn't basically have an alfa tauri, but yeah he was screwed over from the start.
here's a quick summary of his 2020 season:
austria: had a pretty much guaranteed win but got spun out by lewis, and then retired due to electrical problems (probably from his incident with lewis)
styria: started 6th, finished 4th, 11 seconds behind Max
hungary: started 13th after being screwed over in quali, being sent out in traffic and not even having a chance to get a lap in, then finish 5th after a solid drive
britain: qualified 12th after a poor lap on mediums, and having to abandon his 2nd lap due to yellow flags. finished 8th after an incident with k-mag giving him a 5 sec penalty, and some bad strategy calls, overall a pretty poor weekend, but still got a decent result after the circumstances
70a: another poor quali saw him start 9th, but even after a terrible strategy, that saw him pit on lap 7, he showed really good pace, and managed to move up from 16th, to 5th, with a lot of really good overtakes.
spain: not at terrible quali, but was pitted too early and was stuck in traffic and dirty air for most of the race, still finished 8th
belgium: decent quali, only 4 tenths from max on a very long track, but couldn't hold off the quicker renault of Ocon in the race, and finished 6th, not a bad weekend overall.
monza: the car was shit, and he got crashed into by both gasly and k-mag, giving him floor damage costing him seconds per lap.
mugello: qualified 4th, 4 tenths from max, and finished 3rd with some masterful overtakes and good racepace
sochi: qualified 10th, but was quicker than max in q2, was pitted lap 1 basically ruining any chance he could've had, not a great weekend
eifel: had alright pace in quali, but couldn't get the lap together in q3 and was 4 tenths from max. an early lockup due to cold tyre temps forced him to pit early, and while he possibly could've recovered from it, a punctured radiator forced him to retire
portimao: don't even wanna talk about this, it was just a shit weekend overall for him
imola: good pace in practice and quali, but was stuck behind charles leclerc for most of the race, and then wasn't pitted for softs during the safety car for some reason, and was therefore a sitting duck on old hards, with a lot of drivers behind him on fresh softs, then spun due to cold tyre temps, cause it's really hard to get temperature into old hards.
turkey: this was just a joke of a race. he was really good in practice, was basically matching max on pace throughout practice, he qualified 4th, and could've probably won the race but did what max also did, and spun while chasing perez. although he did lead the race for a bit, and was the quickest man on track for a while, in the end he only finished 1.5 secs behind verstappen, so not a bad weekend overall
bahrain: good pace in practice and quali, despite a crash in practice 2, and got his second podium in the race, although his racepace wasn't great.
sakhir: practice was alright, quali was terrible, although mostly cause he was given a high downforce setup on at a power track, which is just stupid, but he did come back from 12th to 6th in the race, which isn't terrible
abu dhabi: had really good pace in practice and quali, and was basically matching the front runners on pace throughout the race. he was the quickest driver on track for the last 20 laps, he cut down a 9 second gap to lewis, and a 15 second gap to bottas in front, to 1.5 and 4 second in 10 laps, and almost got his third F1 podium. overall a really strong weekend with really strong pace.
he drove most of these races with older parts (according to helmut marko) and he had to compete with a once in a generation talent, in just his 2nd season in f1. I don't think almost winning two races, and scoring two other podiums is too bad for a driver in his 2nd year in f1, with worse parts than his teammate, and in a car designed with his teammate in mind. I think he did pretty well, better than what Gasly could do, and we all know how good of a driver he is.
oh and at spa in 2019, in his first race for RB, and in the 13th F1 race of his career, he finished 5th after an engine penalty forced him to start at the back, and he did all of this with an old spec 2 engine, which is not ideal at a power track. Another fun fact is that he only finished one race outside of the top 6, which was the Brazilian GP... where he could've easily gotten a podium... in his debut season... in his 7th race for RB...
in conclusion, he's not a bad driver... he's actually a very good driver.

Ruining the drivers reputation and confidence, and effectively destroying their careers. Unless you can prove your worth afterwards, like Gasly did, theres no hope for you.

The team has this horrible aura of simply destroying great talented drivers (obviously, I know it's more complex than that, but the fact still remains). I'm still pissed about Kvyat. @@radovan9968 Considering Alex had the entire season to replicate his latter half of 2019, if not podiums, I think it's somewhat justified. Even if he got no podiums, Red Bull would have surely kept Albon if he could have produced at least a 6th place every race, but he didn't. So as talented as Alex is, I think this one is justified, but it shouldn't have to be the end of F1 for him.
