i've been to benjamin three or 4 times, have never been dissapointed. the only other "institution" steak house I've been to is Keen's, it was great also, very different atmosphere than benjamin
I could be biased here. But I went to Peter Luger last year and it just felt like a touristy trap to me and what made it worse was the food. I order a medium rare porter house and that thing was dry and not easy to chew and certainly not wagyu level there. And the thick cut bacon was way too salty and the meal just wasn’t worth it for me. For me to pay that much, I would be expecting Tokyo steakhouse level of food and service.
Delmonico's success was and still is based on serving fresh steak. If you don't freeze it for two days, it's impossible to serve that amount of meat in one day. I hope to make it there one day. Best steakhouse I'ver ever been to in Pamplona, Spain - Zizur Menor.
Best steak on earth. I travel miles and miles to have it. I have tried all other great NYC steakhouses and Chicago and NO ONE comes close to Peter lugers. Best part. No darn music. Finally one can eat in peace. That’s the best part of the meal. Amazing welcoming waiters who make you feel at home. Love ❤️ Peter Lugers. Best ever.
What's the difference in playing music and having a lot of people in the restaurant talking which also produces a high volume of noise. Either way, noise is noise and if you are able to eat in peace while a bunch of people are carrying on conversations, surely you can eat in peace with a little light music in the background.
Watching this dude sample 3 of the best steaks in NYC, I'm reminded that if you do a clip of yourself, eating, it's a performance art. Pretty sure this guy knows how to eat a steak, but the 'rawness' of the moment seemed to give him the jitters. Musta been pretty good steaks. I been eating pretty average cuts of beef my whole life and enjoying it. I don't know about eating ZEE bestest, at a place that don't accept credit card. They should have an appraiser, and then you could like pay with an antique spoon you got at a flea market. Anyway. I think Delmonico's looks the best, because of this dude's reaction to it.
Peter Luger is a huge disappointment. Overpriced, mediocre steak that comes with sauce to cover crappy meat, rude staff….don’t go here. Plenty of way better options.
I tell people you should have steak for the taste of steak. Maybe a bit of butter. Salt. No sauces. Your steak should taste like steak because it's a great taste.
New Yorkers always think they have something special. The meat doesn't even come from there. Your paying for a brand. New York has a brand, and its one that I would never, ever buy into.
When I think of NYC, "steak" doesn't even make the top 10. I'm thinking more along the lines of 1) mountains of trash bags on the street, 2) huge rats, 3) unaffordability, 4) dirty subways, 5) smelly homeless bums everywhere, 6) thieves, 7) rampant drug use on the streets, etc.
I must say give me any prime grade steak and mine will be cooked to perfection on a charcoal grill, it will look and taste better than any steak featured in this video

Wrong! Its temp controlled from the ranch to the retail location until its served. Its never frozen. If you call them up, they will give you the temps from ranch to there location. In the trucks there temp recorders for the whole trip, and the readings on the bills of ladings.

I have never been a fan of having my steak precut. Season it, cook and let me decide where I cut first and how big or small of a piece I eat. Just me.
100% agree. And it makes it cool down / stop cooking, which I might not want.

Butter, lots of butter.
copious amount of butter with more butter for added measures. thats where they get "juicy" from.

I'm beginning to wonder how living in tents and eating bugs can be better than this.
I think people mostly favour the part where we get to live for more than a few more generations, not so much the bugs themselves

Delmonico's hands down the best. Pittsburg style, side of pasta and meatballs. I think I just got pregnant, writing this.
The demanicos looks wayy better than the peter luger steak.
