Just hearing somebody else talk about this stuff in a PRACTICAL, MEASURED, ORGANISED way, is invaluable! I can't tell you how long I've waited for someone like you to come along with this advice. I've PAID for 3hr long courses that have given less practical advice than this 20 min video. You're a godsend. Keep it coming!
I really appreciated your advice about creating an acknowledgements page, didn't know about that. Have been sending my manuscript to publishers and waiting, and submitting poems on submittable and waiting haha. But! I have gotten my very first acceptance of one poem, so that's a start! Anyway thank you for making these videos, just stumbled upon you today. I really like your attitude, and your videos are incredibly helpful.
@@rievans57 The ones that popped into my head first were the Poetry Review and Stand Magazine. But generally I think most publications want well crafted poems! It's just that some publish on a theme.
Reputable magazines will address this with you before publication. Typically, the agreement is that the poems can't be submitted or published elsewhere until after publication in the journal you're agreeing to publish with first. Then, after they're published, the rights will revert back to you, the writer, so you can send them off in future manuscripts. That said, most magazines don't take work that has been published elsewhere already- they don't want to reprint previously published stuff. So if a poem gets accepted, it's pretty much used up until you start submitting your collection/chapbook/whatever as a whole.

Great advice! Love the idea of putting together a spreadsheet.
very helpful video for emerging poets.....
Thanks and welcome
The pattern I see amongst poetry publisers (literary magazines or small press) is that they seem to favor topics and biography over command of craft.
Interesting - I found it varies depending on the publication
@@JosieAlfordPoet nothing in life is 100% including my opinion. What publication have you found favors craft?
