My shrimp think that white film gunk is the shrimp version of Russian caviar. They go nuts. ✌️

Man, the first time I saw that stuff, I though I was gonna have to nuke the tank from space! It was the only way to be sure! It wasn't until later that I found out it was harmless and not long lived.

When seeding a tank with a sponge filter that’s been in an aquarium for 5 years. If I drop that in a 30 gallon aquarium. How will I know if that was enough to seed the tank and safe for fish?

That would work well. Just stock the tank lightly at first.

After aquascaping I went three rounds with this biofilm I trashed the wood. My spider drift wood also changed color one other method I boiled it then baked it. In the end all in the trash.

Beautiful aquasçape. Goldfish are underrated these days and people try to shoehorn them into too small tanks inside. A pool or tub outside with goldfish gives much enjoyment with little expenditure of energy as long as you're not afflicted with trash pandas (raccoons).

I just suck it out with a siphon, then add a platy to the tank to take care of what's left. Platys don't get the recognition they deserve for being great tank cleaners.

Last November I set up a new 55g and after it was cycled, the white fungus began growing all over the driftwood. Later, I added a small group of mollies and they picked it clean.

Omg I had this so bad it looked like my wood was taken over by aliens. Mine however did come back and it seemed to be with a vengeance. It did finally go away a little at a time. But since it was my first aquarium it was so frustrating and I couldn’t find anyone who knew what it was. Any how I’m glad you did this video. New comers will appreciate it.

I never had this with my wood when i had it in but i did soak it for such a while & kept treating it with Alum powder but like you mentioned it's white fungus & shrimp adore the stuff.

I have had this stuff absolutely ruin a 12-gallon ⁰tank. It started on one large piece of wood, got to be about an inch thick, then started moving across and attaching to the rocks. I scrubbed and scraped repeatedly, but it kept returning just as bad as before. I loved that scape so much, but I eventually broke it down and soaked the wood for about a month in a bleach solution (then soaked another month in plain water to be sure all bleach was gone). I rebuilt the scape as best as I could remember, but that film came back again just as bad as before. I eventually chucked that beautiful piece of wood, built an inferior scape, and all film problems disappeared. Luckily, as you said, my fish never suffered at all from this -- although they may have been embarrassed by their poorly scaped home.

Put a platy or Mollie in there. They won't let it come back
