Here Here!!! I did Live Sound for almost a decade back in the 90's and I had the POWER of whomever was on stage just by a flick of my effects rack! There was one time when an "artist" was at the club I was doing the sound for came in at 5pm who had MISSED the rehearsal by some 4+ hours all because he felt it "beneath him" to put in the time. EVERY ONE ELSE was there but not Mr. Prima... Anyway, when it came for the performance I (auto-tune was not around yet) just took ALL the effects off him (not even reverb) BUT increased his vocals SO EVERYONE could HEAR him LOUD & CLEAR!!! Long story short - He NEVER made it big as one of the labels was there that night and he NEVER GOT SIGNED!!! I SO loved that!!!

Also, this comment contradicts what the dude said at the end of the video… record labels no longer have that reach due to social media exposure of artists, so the general public gets to pick (so to speak) the artists they want to see in the mainstream. Therefore, industry plants can’t really be a thing anymore.
It seems as though the singers with God given serious talent mostly just sing. Mariah and Whitney can't dance. People who go to their concerts are only going to get beautiful singing. Some other artists put on shows that entertain even if their talent falls a bit shorter than Whitney's and Mariah's. I'd say they appeal to a younger audience. But, the fact of the matter is, if you go to a concert and pay the kind of money it cost to attend these days, some might want more than beautiful singing that you can listen to at home. Right now, Beyonce's concert tour includes costume changes, props, dancers, and Blu Ivy, LOL! Her show rivals big tent performances. And when you get right down to it, the quality of one's voice and performances is in the end, a matter of opinion.

As a singer another problem is Style Singing is more popular then actual singing. Example PCD Nicole scherzinger can sing her ASS OFF. But you would never know listening to the style singing done in the group. Style singing is more popular then the r&b singing style we grew up on in the 90s. Even Monica Brandy and Aaliyah still could vocally hold notes and did some style singing but it was mixed with vocals and runs. I think this style is the reason singers can't sing. Cause non singers can't struggle through it live. And real singers over sing it and it sounds forced. Style singing is a crutch non singers live on.

A lot of artists who can sing well in their native language can't hold a tune in their second language. Also, I would imagine they've probably had some vocal training since their lip syncing scandal.

Actually I've been a Jon B. fan for 27 years and he CAN sing. I've seen him in person and he sung at least 15 songs back to back with no auto-tune and no lip singing. Also, He did a special during the quarantine where he did a lot of his hit songs and songs that were not released from the comforts of his home and he sounded amazing again with no lip singing and no Auto-Tune. So I have to disagree that he cannot sing but the rest of them I agree😂.

What annoys me the most is that they can hire vocal trainers. So many people want to be famous singers, but don't want to put in the work. If you practice enough with coaches, you will improve and become decent at least. I give my props to Rihanna for taking those vocal lessons and improving. She mentions initially not knowing what statacco means until she met Neyo. She has grown in her craft and I'll always respect her for that.

Me also! Paula wasn't a good singer either, and was part of the show in their first four or five seasons when it was really popular. But I think many people didn't really care about she not being a great or at least decent singer....She was so charismatic, a great dancer, songs were catchy and everybody lived her so much...🙄🤷♀️

Rihanna's voice and timber are one in a billion, not because she is a great singer, it's because it can be distinguished within less than 5 seconds for anyone who knows her.
Beyonce has the best technique in this generation but her music and the sound of her voice aren't half as recognizable as Rihanna.
It is said that producers would die to get Rihanna on their tracks because of the uniqueness of her voice which enabled her to sell millions of records and surpass Beyonce who puts so much more effort.

I'm in my higher 30s I remember how Madonna was selling records the same way and she was up against Whitney, Mariah, Toni, Sade, Anita, Prince, Micheal, and Janet ( who had a sexy voice and could dance her ass off) and Madonna was still able to shine and be her own artist just like Rihanna.

He showed that clip when Rihanna was like 15 or 14 and there was some cracks in her voice that's because she wasn't trained and I don't think it was that bad I just don't think Brianna is a ballad type of girl she's better suited for other type of songs also she may not be able to do high notes but she could do low notes very well

Many of them can't sing without autotune. I saw a clip of Taylor Swift at a concert and she sounded terrible but people loved her. She is a better songwriter though. Lolleeta Hooloways voice is so well recognized for the hits that came out then. It is a shame they sampled without her permission.
