Infinitely better than Pokémon the storyline is great and all of the supporting characters and the fact they travel with you just builds even more intimacy towards the game makes you really get into it
I really wish this game git the hype, Support and funding that pokemon gets. I love all the characters and how they return (old protagonists, Ulzar, the primordial tyrants, Deena, Atlas, the netherworld wardens, Hilda, I could go on) and the new characters (coco, Ross, Nora, current protagonists, Lydia, I could go on) are all so fleshed out and good. I enjoyed playing this game more than i enjoyed playing totk, and while they aren't really comparable in terms other than love and enjoyment, that's still saying a lot. Genuine, unexcaggerated 11/10
Not to mention the attention they gave to Micromon, the original mobile game, like the professor from Micromon making an appearance in Nexomon, and even the fact that in extinction, Vados is actually a callback to the big bad beasite, Vaithe which is all but confirmed in the Abyssal Tyrants update with secret lab documents talking about him, name and all, as well as bringing back the 4 other legendary micromon as the CHAOS siblings, giving them far better designs than they had previously, and the fact that also in extinction, you could have your avatar as the micromon protagonists is just icing on the cake!
You got me hooked! I've fallen out of pokemon since ultra sun/moon and been beyond disappointed with sword and shield. And to see a creature collection game with characters that look like fakemon get me so hyped!! I love those designs, I'll defined be checking the franchise out!
I still haven't played the second game yet, (well not the full thing at least) and yet I'm still inlove with this community! It sucks how people don't pay that much attention to it man 😭
I really enjoy this series more than Pokemon by far. I bought it last week. Better than Scarlet and Violet or anything equivalent to the 3ds Pokemon titles.
My personal review; Pros; -Monster design is better than pokemon. Just completely unironically, better. There are no Stunfisks, no Dewgongs, no Luvdisks, no pika clones. Although there are stragglers, they still have something to them, they still manage to have a unique stake on the landscape of personality. -Story is actually there. Nothing super crazy, but it was actually kinda compelling and genuinely fun to roll through. -Characters I actually care about. Even if some of the characters fall into familiar molds or categories, like Tamers that team with tyrants, there's still enough personality and variety to make me care. -Generally has Balls. This game is like if pokemon had a pair. I'm not talking super crazy action, but just if they had more maturity than disney. The world of Nexomon is not the perfect, corporate sqeaky-clean thing Pokemon's is, and that's admirable. Cons; -Battle system is a bit boring. The vast majority of nexomon are restricted to STAB and neutral type moves, all nexomon are monotype, and there's no abilities. Battles are mostly a slugfest where type advantages come in handy sometimes for switching out. Not entertaining to a long time fan of monster catchers, but I could see someone new to the subgenre having a lot more fun with it since you're encouraged to switch out to get more stuff done. Overall, a great game for its cost and size. Blows any pokemon game on switch out of the water besides maybe legends arceus, and that's a maybe. Nexomon's big two things that make it good are A. Passion, and B. The fact modern pokemon is staler than weevil-filled hardtack.
the lack of damage types, there only being 5 stats, Health Stamina, Attack, Defense, and Speed, the fact that theres no type coverage, no diversity of types, fewer types, the fact that almost every Nexomon learns their "big damage" move before level 16 and wont get a better move until over 60. No status moves have higher than 50% accuracy, and the statuses are either "take damage" or "dont act at all, sometimes" The game's battle system is absolute ass compared to pokemon and many other creature collectors Every catch has a QTE that can be mashed so its just tedious, the premise of feeding nexomon when they only like 3 out of 50 different foods to improve catch rates I'm still working my way through it, but i'm over 20 hours into Extinction right now, and this game is a slog at times. I'm shocked that there are so many praises this game is getting, when the humor is frankly lazy more often than not. Its an indie game, and I've been enjoying the ride, but I'm really really surprised that people are saying its better than the OG, without just trying to be contrarian.

Thanks for this video. Recently picked up the physical 2 pack for my Switch and playing the 1st game now. I am liking the story and the simplicity of the catching, but still learning the weakness chart as my Pokémon brain wants to take over.
After playing the first nexomon (not done with it yet though), Im loving every moment of it, even the parts where I stop to just grind some levels. Each overseer and champion is interesting and sometimes funny (that mostly is the overseers though). My love for pokemon is hard to kill, but im gonna have to make room for Nexomon as another favorite.
One thjng i was pleasantly surprised with was how i liked EVERY nexomon. Every single one. My issue with pokemon that i didnt even realise i had is that i would always have pokemon that i liked and disliked, however i realised the firstr 10 mins of the first nexomon game that i loved and fiund every one i encountered intersting. Ams this only continues to even now

As someone who has played all three games in the franchise (there was a mobile game “Micromon” which has since been deleted) Extinction is the best by FAR and you don’t need to play the first Nexomon to understand the story, however there are some nods to the original including character cameos. Extinction is its own self contained story, so if you want to jump straight to Extinction I’d say go for it! You won’t regret it :)

Yea I gotta agree, Extinction was the goat, BUT nexomon 1 is still a fun experience, and playing it enhances your extinction playthrough because they are genuine sequels of eachother
it's currently 5 bucks on the nintendo store, and i sought out a review just because i have a road trip and family reunion coming up next week. between everything you've said here and the visuals that bring me right back to the late 2000's playing shitty monster capture Facebook games (rest in peace, Miscrits and that one i can't remember the name of that has linear node-based map progression and a lion creature named Messi), i think i'm 100% picking it up. Update: best 5 bucks I've spent. Plenty enjoyable for a fraction of the price of the pokemon games that Nintendo stopped making
I been playing Nexomon for a while . They’re great games just the only complaint I have is there’s no abilities or moves to really differentiate the Nexomon between each other besides design and stats .
Also extinction doesn’t have type variety for moves like the original Nexomon game . I did enjoy the story of it and there’s tons of cool designs . You should play the abyssals update on extinction if you hadn’t already .

I’ll check this game out when I can. I’m curious to see if I’ll like it or not as I’ve never been a huge fan of the Pokemon series. I like the games ok. They fun enough and charming and not a big time commitment. Ever since X/Y I stopped enjoying the games at all for how much they slowed down the pace of their games for tutorials that fried my patience and ridiculous plots that were impossible for me to care about.
Nexomon is actually difficult, and they use the stamina mechanic to ensure one nexomon cant just roll through the whole game...the plot will have you laughing. I lot to like in this experience for sure!
This is what pokemon should be on switch. My first game was sun and moon. I don't hardly remember any of the characters. I am not good with names, but the designs in this game stick in my head. The humor knows when to start and stop. The only complaint I can give is that the end is a bit more of a grind than it should be, and the back to back fights that practically require numerous items unless you're over leveled. Though most of these complaints are very minor compared to everything else, this game does perfectly. The twist was easy to see if you were paying attention, but it was fun. Way better than whatever rose was in sw and sh. I can't wait to see 3 as an open world game!
To me Pokemon vs Nexomon is a prime example of the issue you see with a lot of big companies vs smaller ones. Adversity builds success. A lot of large companies fall back on crutches of just throwing more money or people at the project or simply reating on their laurels and releasing rehashes without purpose or direction that just try to ape what was already successful. Then you have a small indie studio who can’t do this. They don’t have the money or budget to just hire more people, throw top of the line visuals at it, or handle a marketing team to hype things up and they can’t afford to play it safe because they will just wind up buried in the already saturated indie market. So they work within their means figuring out what parts to focus on and which areas can be toned back to save on limited time and budget all to make a project they are passionate about that is trying to stand out among the sea of other indie titles. Basically they have more motivation to really try and take chances. This is also why you see small companies get bigger over time and then the quality decreases, because once they have the success they fall into the trap the big companies are in and start repeating their mistakes. This is why I love the indie and AA markets so much more. Because they still have reason to try.
Nexomon 1 was ok but didn't give you much reason to collect the critters. Extinction was pretty good but honestly it's not as good as Coromon or the older Pokemon games. I just finished playing Nexomon 1 after completing Extinction quite some time back and I got so bored in Nexomon 1 it was hard to make myself go back to finish it. Story wise ehhh - not impressed. I find Coromon far superior as Indies go.

What got me hooked more than anything on the story was the scientist scene spoiler warning At the end of the original games final fight the scientist who mentored the villain appears before you and poses the idea that... what if your life is just some game where a child is controlling you, he explains how he was once a game character in a game, but managed to escape and took out his experimenters. it breaks the 4th wall in an undertale style of way it feels like the scientist isn't posing it to you it feels like its being posed to us not the player us the people... that what if we're in a game

Such a great change of pace compared to modern pokemon. I love the story and nexomon themselves. I've played extinction multiple times and I'm playing the first one now since I didn't know when the first one was on switch.
I dont see how extinction has any replayability at all. What are you doing different? All the nexomon feel identical to every other one of the same type.
I recently got this. I have really disliked Pokemon on Switch for multiple reasons but so far Ive really been enjoying this. Ive played Pokemon since 2000 so I'm sure sometimes it feels stale. This is a really fun, interesting and good looking game.

Gotta be honest, I did see if coming but I really didnt think they would have the balls to ACTUALLY do it. I figured I was just being overly hopeful but they actually did it and the game is goated because of it

There's no multi-player, but there's also really no need to be. I definetly thought they were gonna add a multi-player arena in a part of the game I saw, but they didn't.
Similar to chronomon looks more Pokemon Black and White games since the sprites move in that one, another pokemon type based indie one, should check that one out while you can.

The best Story Part in my Opinion is that the Main Character is actually half Nexomon. Pokemon would never try this. Because its a more mature Storyline and involves you know what to happen between Nexomon and Human. The Characters have more Personality even the Main Character. The Humor is way better because Pokemon doesnt have a knack for both Humor and Story. I always loved the Idea that the Main Character if he fights against Evil Organisations should be able to join the Fight. I mean if the Main character transforms into a Monster even Guns used from the Organisation dont matter too much. Nexomon goes directly in the Direction of better Pokemon Games what i always wanted. Im so disappointed lately into Pokemon that i even started to make Fanfictions with darker Themes, actual Character Development, creative Sidequests, better use of Monsters, getting Legendaries late Game doesnt matter anymore because of New Game Plus, you can get all Starters from the Start, you have actual Deaths and the Legendary Pokemon have important Roles in the Story, you will have two Editions but they are selectable from the Screen because its on the same Disc so its one Game but lets you have two different Experiences . The Story changes regarding which Edition you play, different Characters and Pokemon, i included Romance Options, even with Humanlike Pokemon and some other stuff.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has more to do than Nexomon. Also, the story in SV is better. Nexomon’s story is still good though. Nexomon is funnier than Pokémon too. Nexomon has better performance (frame rate, glitches) than Pokémon SV, I’ll give you that. Nexomon is better than Legends Arceus, but not quite as good as Scarlet and Violet.
So you said a Pokemon fan should buy this...well im not Pokemon fan and the last Pokemon game i played was Yellow on the Gameboy but i want to get into those games again. So heres my question, is this a good entry game for people who never played or havent played those kinda games in a long time?
I know this is three weeks old and you've likely made your decision, but here goes. Nexomon 1 and 2 (Extinction) are like gens 1 and, kinda, 2 of pokemon but competently programed. Both games are also a fair bit more difficult than pokemon but for different reasons between both games. In one status problems are king with confusion being the most busted thing that exists in the game. The only other status problems that I can consider good are Bind and Paralysis because all three lock your opponent out of a turn completely with confusion having the advantage of damaging as well as disabling. Bear in mind that these rules also apply to you. As for Extinction, the AI of the game as a whole is leagues better with Tamers using switching strats and level scaling. You can't power level in Extinction to get ahead, this is the game's greatest strength and weakness, you also make your opponents stronger the further you progress in the story and the more Nexomon that you catch. Extinction fixes and, almost over balances a lot of the issues that one had, making it a stronger game in the process. If you want a fair but challenging experience, that's very similar in base mechanics to gen 1, get the games. It'll be about 30-40 usd depending on where and how you get them.

@@KillyRR On anything outside Nintendo? Not really. My choices on PS4 are a bit more catered. If you like Gundam, collecting, and customizing then Gundam Breaker 3 is one of the best options I can offer you. Well... Ni No Kuni is kind of an option as well. Though it's not purely a monster collector/ tamer. I've seen aspects of that in the game though.
Just remembered! SMT! That's quite a bit harder than Pokemon but the story and characters are well worth it. There's also Persona but that probably isn't what you're looking for. And I've really got nothing outside of that though.

Extinction is far beyond Pokemon. It evolves every aspect of the game and makes Pokemon retroactively a worse experience.

it's currently 5 bucks on the nintendo store, and i sought out a review just because i have a road trip and family reunion coming up next week. between everything you've said here and the visuals that bring me right back to the late 2000's playing shitty monster capture Facebook games (rest in peace, Miscrits and that one i can't remember the name of that has linear node-based map progression and a lion creature named Messi), i think i'm 100% picking it up.
Update: best 5 bucks I've spent. Plenty enjoyable for a fraction of the price of the pokemon games that Nintendo stopped making
I been playing Nexomon for a while . They’re great games just the only complaint I have is there’s no abilities or moves to really differentiate the Nexomon between each other besides design and stats .
Also extinction doesn’t have type variety for moves like the original Nexomon game . I did enjoy the story of it and there’s tons of cool designs . You should play the abyssals update on extinction if you hadn’t already .
the stats are basically the same among every nexomon as well, so its really just Type Chart and design.

I’ll check this game out when I can. I’m curious to see if I’ll like it or not as I’ve never been a huge fan of the Pokemon series. I like the games ok. They fun enough and charming and not a big time commitment. Ever since X/Y I stopped enjoying the games at all for how much they slowed down the pace of their games for tutorials that fried my patience and ridiculous plots that were impossible for me to care about.
Nexomon is actually difficult, and they use the stamina mechanic to ensure one nexomon cant just roll through the whole game...the plot will have you laughing. I lot to like in this experience for sure!
I am getting both nexomon games on the switch after Christmas.

The 1st game was iffy especially with the fact its a mobile game thats legit pay to win but Extinction now thats peak monster catching
This is what pokemon should be on switch. My first game was sun and moon. I don't hardly remember any of the characters. I am not good with names, but the designs in this game stick in my head. The humor knows when to start and stop. The only complaint I can give is that the end is a bit more of a grind than it should be, and the back to back fights that practically require numerous items unless you're over leveled. Though most of these complaints are very minor compared to everything else, this game does perfectly. The twist was easy to see if you were paying attention, but it was fun. Way better than whatever rose was in sw and sh. I can't wait to see 3 as an open world game!

This kind of proves that Pokémon can be great with 2D cartoon graphics. Japanese fans know this.
To me Pokemon vs Nexomon is a prime example of the issue you see with a lot of big companies vs smaller ones. Adversity builds success. A lot of large companies fall back on crutches of just throwing more money or people at the project or simply reating on their laurels and releasing rehashes without purpose or direction that just try to ape what was already successful. Then you have a small indie studio who can’t do this. They don’t have the money or budget to just hire more people, throw top of the line visuals at it, or handle a marketing team to hype things up and they can’t afford to play it safe because they will just wind up buried in the already saturated indie market. So they work within their means figuring out what parts to focus on and which areas can be toned back to save on limited time and budget all to make a project they are passionate about that is trying to stand out among the sea of other indie titles. Basically they have more motivation to really try and take chances. This is also why you see small companies get bigger over time and then the quality decreases, because once they have the success they fall into the trap the big companies are in and start repeating their mistakes. This is why I love the indie and AA markets so much more. Because they still have reason to try.

Nexomon 1 was ok but didn't give you much reason to collect the critters. Extinction was pretty good but honestly it's not as good as Coromon or the older Pokemon games. I just finished playing Nexomon 1 after completing Extinction quite some time back and I got so bored in Nexomon 1 it was hard to make myself go back to finish it. Story wise ehhh - not impressed. I find Coromon far superior as Indies go.

What got me hooked more than anything on the story was the scientist scene spoiler warning
At the end of the original games final fight the scientist who mentored the villain appears before you and poses the idea that... what if your life is just some game where a child is controlling you, he explains how he was once a game character in a game, but managed to escape and took out his experimenters. it breaks the 4th wall in an undertale style of way it feels like the scientist isn't posing it to you it feels like its being posed to us not the player us the people... that what if we're in a game

Such a great change of pace compared to modern pokemon. I love the story and nexomon themselves. I've played extinction multiple times and I'm playing the first one now since I didn't know when the first one was on switch.
I dont see how extinction has any replayability at all. What are you doing different? All the nexomon feel identical to every other one of the same type.

I recently got this. I have really disliked Pokemon on Switch for multiple reasons but so far Ive really been enjoying this. Ive played Pokemon since 2000 so I'm sure sometimes it feels stale. This is a really fun, interesting and good looking game.

Extinction is A LOT better than the first game. I'd recommend playing Extinction THEN the first game.

There's no multi-player, but there's also really no need to be. I definetly thought they were gonna add a multi-player arena in a part of the game I saw, but they didn't.

It's actually super hard to create something original these days. The first the comunity do is just stone you to death just becouse it have similair graphic or mechanics, but they don't even have clue about how much effort and time the creator put into it. The best Story Part in my Opinion is that the Main Character is actually half Nexomon. Pokemon would never try this. Because its a more mature Storyline and involves you know what to happen between Nexomon and Human. The Characters have more Personality even the Main Character. The Humor is way better because Pokemon doesnt have a knack for both Humor and Story. I always loved the Idea that the Main Character if he fights against Evil Organisations should be able to join the Fight. I mean if the Main character transforms into a Monster even Guns used from the Organisation dont matter too much. Nexomon goes directly in the Direction of better Pokemon Games what i always wanted. Im so disappointed lately into Pokemon that i even started to make Fanfictions with darker Themes, actual Character Development, creative Sidequests, better use of Monsters, getting Legendaries late Game doesnt matter anymore because of New Game Plus, you can get all Starters from the Start, you have actual Deaths and the Legendary Pokemon have important Roles in the Story, you will have two Editions but they are selectable from the Screen because its on the same Disc so its one Game but lets you have two different Experiences . The Story changes regarding which Edition you play, different Characters and Pokemon, i included Romance Options, even with Humanlike Pokemon and some other stuff.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has more to do than Nexomon. Also, the story in SV is better. Nexomon’s story is still good though. Nexomon is funnier than Pokémon too.
Nexomon has better performance (frame rate, glitches) than Pokémon SV, I’ll give you that.
Nexomon is better than Legends Arceus, but not quite as good as Scarlet and Violet.
So you said a Pokemon fan should buy this...well im not Pokemon fan and the last Pokemon game i played was Yellow on the Gameboy but i want to get into those games again. So heres my question, is this a good entry game for people who never played or havent played those kinda games in a long time?
I know this is three weeks old and you've likely made your decision, but here goes. Nexomon 1 and 2 (Extinction) are like gens 1 and, kinda, 2 of pokemon but competently programed. Both games are also a fair bit more difficult than pokemon but for different reasons between both games. In one status problems are king with confusion being the most busted thing that exists in the game. The only other status problems that I can consider good are Bind and Paralysis because all three lock your opponent out of a turn completely with confusion having the advantage of damaging as well as disabling. Bear in mind that these rules also apply to you. As for Extinction, the AI of the game as a whole is leagues better with Tamers using switching strats and level scaling. You can't power level in Extinction to get ahead, this is the game's greatest strength and weakness, you also make your opponents stronger the further you progress in the story and the more Nexomon that you catch. Extinction fixes and, almost over balances a lot of the issues that one had, making it a stronger game in the process. If you want a fair but challenging experience, that's very similar in base mechanics to gen 1, get the games. It'll be about 30-40 usd depending on where and how you get them.

Its kinda like Yellow but with a story^^ I also like that you can pick several different avatars. Still im so out of this genre i somtimes get confused. @@KillyRR On anything outside Nintendo? Not really. My choices on PS4 are a bit more catered. If you like Gundam, collecting, and customizing then Gundam Breaker 3 is one of the best options I can offer you. Well... Ni No Kuni is kind of an option as well. Though it's not purely a monster collector/ tamer. I've seen aspects of that in the game though.
Just remembered! SMT! That's quite a bit harder than Pokemon but the story and characters are well worth it. There's also Persona but that probably isn't what you're looking for. And I've really got nothing outside of that though.
