I have only recently subscribed to this channel, and though I don't know where. I just remember scrolling through youtube and stumbling across a very charismatic hobo asking a leprechaun for money. From there I watched every single video in the binge playlist, and am on my way to completing all the community comments and anything else I can get my hands on, though it will probably be the binge list for a fifth time... I may have a problem...
Either way, I have to say, through seeing all of your videos, I have has a lot of fun time laughing at all the good, bad, and strange moments that have come up in your history here, and with this video in particular, I have been given, let's say, a moment of clarity (though that is bol shaveki and we all know it). I am at a moment in my life where I have no idea what I am going to do. I have started a lot of things, like a RUclips channel, that I immediately gave up on them because they didn't make me happy, and I am at a point where I don't know what I am going to do and I am running out of options. And that scares me.
Coming here, and especially seeing this video, helps. Immensely. I think... being here has taught me exactly what I love, and what I don't want to do. And I thank you. Really, thank you so much.
I love all of you, from the bottom of my heart, and I hope you the best in your future endeavors, and whatever that may bring.

Right on the bloody money mate. Whenever someone asks me how they should make a youtube channel, my first advice is "just don't". The second is to ask them if they enjoy making videos and if they're prepared to make and upload videos and have no one watch them. Because that will happen for a long time. I lucked out and had one video explode and hey now I don't have a uni education and instead shitpost for a living. If you gave me a time machine I have no idea if I could do it again. RUclips is a terrible path to "get easy money", and Kyle is right. I work a lot of bloody hours. It's sometimes hard to motivate myself because I'm my own boss and why would I work when I can watch stupid internet videos instead, but when I do work I work for ages. I wake up, eat breakfast, work until I have to eat again and then go to sleep. It's not like I don't enjoy the job, but it's still a bloody job, and one that requires a whole lot of work at that.

Kyle, I would like to say thank you! For several years now I have been intermittently and half-heartedly thinking about trying to start up a RUclips account and post videos. So far that is the full extent of my efforts while working a "real" job. One of my biggest hinderences has been that I don't really have much of plan and that the content would probably need copyright holder approval unless I did some real work to make the videos truly exceed the minimum requirements to avoid strikes. After paying serious attention to your video advice I realize this whole thing is not really the thing for me since all I wanted was to put in minimum effort and have minimum hassles. Getting only minimum rewards out of it was OK, but the needed effort and expense to do an even semi-competent video channel is something I don't really care to do. There are many other projects that I would be much happier doing, even when they require significantly more skill and dedication.

Loved the line at 7:30 about doing what you're 'supposed to do.' Struck a particular chord with me. I remember being pressured in school, looking at life as though there's a series of events that are supposed to happen in a particular order by the time you reach certain ages, and absolutely failing to hit those milestones because I didn't want to. After high school I just kinda floundered around goofing off, got a job that would let me save a little money while I lived at my parents house, and just do whatever. My friends all went off to college, got degrees, and from what I can tell are successful people. I didn't know what I wanted out of life, and watching others felt like it took a lot out of me. I felt like such a failure, behind the times, and that I was going to lose myself to the world and accept my fate as a second-or-third-rate human. Now, at the age of 31, I feel like I'm getting things figured out, and I've come a long way. I have to constantly remind myself though, life ain't some kind of race. Even if it were one, it's probably not worth getting in first. The truth is I'm happy with what I'm doing, and with my life. My family and friends are supportive and like me for who I am. Heck, I'm married, got some beautiful kids, a decent house I'm paying off... the only reason I still get so anxious about it is there imaginary guideposts for life placed and reinforced through my youth about my career. Don't have a degree, working at a place that will hire pretty much anybody, doing a job I don't particularly care for that much, but ya know what? That's OK. I get to spend the majority of my day with my family, and take up and learn new things I want whenever I want. Just do what makes you happy. Whatever you do for money doesn't have to be your passion, it can just be work you do so that you can do what makes you happy. If it is, then that's great, but don't consider yourself a failure just because you don't love your job. That may come someday, for me it hasn't, but there is so much more in life to enjoy!

This is a lesson that I feel many need to learn.
Myself, I'm just about to go into a field that I don't love (I mean, chemical process operations SOUNDS boring), but realized that the endorphin hit of solving the problem is consistent enough that I could see myself doing it for however long I need to.
Before, I struggled, feeling torn with this desire to "do great things" but the understanding that I burn out easily, so when I stopped and asked myself what I really wanted, the answer was "to live comfortably while I help my friends" instead of whatever "do great things" even means. Work that pays well and doesn't follow me home serves my real goal of being a rock for friends and family.

In the vein on doing the thing you love on RUclips, I have a story.
I used to make RUclips videos a while ago. It was during a time of my life where I felt worthless and no longer wanted to interact with the world. I would throw myself into either games, books, or my own fantasies in order to escape my own existence. I made my first RUclips video because I made a difficult thing in Minecraft for school that I hadn't been able to find elsewhere, and thought that since I had to film it anyway, I might as well explain how I built it. It got some attention and was probably the first time I felt accepted externally. So naturally, I leapt into it.
Looking back, it's obvious what I was doing. RUclips was just another way I was coping with my situation. So when my life started getting better and I no longer need to retreat from the world as much, I stopped enjoying making RUclips videos (mostly the editing. I hate editing). I declared my channel dead over a year ago when I got hit with demonetizations and eventual ejection from RUclips partners, and never really looked back.
These days, my channel is a snapshot of me when I was at my lowest. I don't even know if I should leave it as it is, make the videos unlisted, or deleted it all. What I do know for certain is that it helped me become the person I am now. It supported me when I was struggling, and now I no longer need it to keep going.
So yeah, thanks RUclips. You are a stressful, manipulative, hate-filled platform that will not survive the next decade, and I love you for it :)

This... is so true! I've taken a break from RUclips over the past two months and it's been crazy how relaxed I've felt (besides school stuff), and how I've realized what importance I put and hours I put into something I didn't even enjoy anymore. A lot of my interests have changed and what I built my channel on, I don't even really do anymore. So thank you for posting this, it helped me realize that "being a RUclipsr" may not be for me.

This video doesn't bring me much directly, personally. But I'm really thankful you made it, actually in multiple ways. It's great to watch someone at least _trying_ to put a good "guide" for being a youtuber. But you went way beyond trying, you made it successfully in a way that I'm grateful less people will be deviated to the thinking that being a youtuber is easy money and that easy money is the goal to have. I'm really glad you made this video. I'm also happy you are managing to seek for what you want. Thanks a ton, you're great.

  • @Iccirrion
    @Iccirrion Год назад

I am glad this one popped up in my recommendations again. I've tried 'youtubing' a few times in my life, and each time I just...stopped after a few weeks to a couple of months, it just...left me feeling like it wasn't worth it. But a little over a year ago, I saw this video while browsing your usual sketches and, you really did change my perspective a little, I started streaming for the third...maybe forth time, but decided before hand I was just doing this for me, it was an exercise in building confidence, learning to speak my thoughts more, and having the self-discipline to set aside that time each week, it was about what 'I' could do, not about what youtube might do for me. And now, almost a full year later, I'm still at it, and still loving it, despite the fact I average around...1 view. My goal was to do something I want to do, and I'm damn well succeeding. So...thanks for that little wake up call.

Your video is great. I love your channel, and it's really great. I expected a joke video, not gonna lie. This kind of goes back to my thoughts on business. The point is not necessarily to make money, but to provide a service to make money. For example, a Physical Therapist where I live is doing extremely well. Not because prices are jacked way up to increase profit and to make money, but because the service provided is phenomenal. I mean they are booked 3 months out for someone who, if you're calling them, chances are need to see them within a week, or even a day or two.
Looking back at 2012 memes given by the YT historian that is the Recommended, I have found just what you were talking about. People having fun, doing what they love because it's what they enjoy. If you enjoy making people laugh, cry, think, or just create something which people want to watch, then as long as you fulfill that purpose as fully as you can, you're golden.
And Kyle, you and everyone at Door Monster are golden. I guarantee as soon as my funds loosen up I will donate to you because I really enjoy the content you make. Keep it up!
