I am baffled that Door Monster isn’t more popular than it is. This channel deserves so much for attention than it gets. The artistic integrity that you have is refreshing since it’s better than most RUclips channels and film production studios

    • @THB192
      @THB192 5 лет назад +16

It's very much in the tradition of other zero-budget film-students-with-sticks comedy series on RUclips (freddiew, TomSka, etc), but the difference is that while Freddie and co tended to focus on special effects in their heyday, Door Monster tends to emphasize really solid writing instead.
And in that department... well, frankly, Kyle and the rest are just funnier than any other comedy sketch group on RUclips. Smosh at their best pales in comparison (okay, not saying much, but...)

I was extremely depressed for several months. I almost didn’t make it.
What helped me was taking a trip to somewhere I’ve always wanted to go. In my case it was the Smithsonian Museums in Washington, D.C. Being able relax to and enjoy it really helped. This might not help you, but it helped me. Also time. Time helped.
I didn’t have any support from my family or friends, so if I could do it by myself you can definitely do it with help from other people. You can do this!

As much as its strange because none of us know you personally, a large portion of us really care about you and the rest of the team. Personally your content has helped me through some shit ive been dealing with by just giving me a distraction for a few minutes and helping cheer my up slightly. I have been there too, many times, unfortunately. It’s awesome that so many of your fans are supportive and more than anything it’s fantastic that you are willing to talk about it openly. It is the most wide-spread problem in the US that goes underreported by 75% + of sufferers.
It doesn’t seem possible that you are living the same life when you remember you used to work 14 hours a day and actually create awesome videos while courting your now-wife, writing Skyvault, engaging the community and countless other things ... and now done days it probably seems an insurmountable obstacle to renew your driver’s license.
As long as you know the “classic” advice of - “stop being a wus and just toughen up” is a load of bull shit, and it’s a real thing and getting help is not only smart, but takes toughness and courage, you will be okay.
Loved your work and respected your talent since I first found your channel a couple years ago, but now I deeply admire and respect you as person for persevering and being open and honest.

I've battled depression off and on for about fifteen years. My GPA from school looks like a roller coaster because of it. When things work, I'm awesome -- I have a PhD -- but after I finished and the way the academic job market is in the US there's nothing stable and little routine. And that basically gives a crack for depression to get through. So I get where you're coming from. All I can say is that from my experience all you can do is pick yourself up, try to figure out what the next thing will be, and try making it happen. And it sounds like you mostly know this. So as long as you realize that depression is happening and you can still think about how to get out of it the rest is just time.
Anyway, this is useless advice from someone on RUclips, but good luck, man. I'll be thinking of you.

Take as much time off as you need Kyle! Priority number one is always to enjoy what you do and be there for the people you care about. When you’re ready, tutorial content sounds like a great idea! Your sketches are always hilarious, and it would be great to have a tutorial on comedic writing. :D

I relate to so much of this. Kyle's description of depression, the loss of direction after school/college, struggling to motivate yourself after achieving goals, trying to find new goals, trying to regain your enthusiasm, even feeling like you shouldn't be depressed because your problems sound 'dumb' (they're not), all of it. Door Monster is one of my favourite channels because a) it's content is frickin' hilarious and b) the people involved are so cool and relatable. Whatever you wanna do, Kyle, whether that's creating new, different content, taking a break, stopping altogether or anything else, I support it. Thank you for making and sharing so much great content (watching 'Use the Doors', 'Yellow Light' or any of your Civ videos always cheers me up) and for caring about and interacting with your community. The most important thing is for you to look after yourself and find and do what makes you happy. To that end I wish you all the best now and in the future.
(In retrospect, that last line kinda sounded like a goodbye, but just so you know, I'm totally still watching any and all of your future updates)

Would love to hear your process of writing! Not only because you love it and you're passionate about it, but because I personally think thats an area I need to improve in most... and because I'm also trying to create high quality, low budget films I feel like you have a lot of knowledge to offer younger filmmakers! You have to do what's best for you, and we'll all stand behind that!

There are many reasons in life for us to get some pretty bad anxiety crisis or something like that.
But it is good to remember, as cliché as it may be, that there is always something, as trivial as it may be, that really needs us, one way or another.

Im not going to give you my life story...but i never expected to make my 21st birthday. Never forget the people around you. Even if they cant understand, or even if they do, never forget or underestimate how much they NEED you and the lessons you teach. And hey things may not go the way you expect, i just turned 30 and im through the other side. You can beat it. If you cant beat it alone get help. The key to it more than anything ive found is to have hope. even in the smallest of things, and then you take one small step at a time and work your way up.

My personal opinion on most situations, including this one, is "you do you"; you take the channel in whatever direction you want, at exactly the pace that's best for you. I have the utmost confidence that the decisions you make for the channel will the best decisions possible. Additionally, a Door Monster tutorial series on video making, editing, etc., sounds like a marvellous idea.

Just discovered your channel not too long ago, you guys are truly a diamond in the rough. Refreshingly honest, genuinely funny, and bold enough to even poke fun at yourselves. IMHO, do what you need to do to find that sense of "fulfillment." On this side of the camera, one of the best aspects of your content is how much fun you guys are having when you make it. It really does translate.
One thing is certain tho, unless you do something different, nothing will change. Best of luck!
