After playing bass for 15yrs I decided to get serious playing guitar so I picked one of these up in the charcoal frost. I couldn't be happier with it. Fit, finish and tones are great. I got mine from zzounds and surprisingly aside from the intonation being slightly sharp the set up was almost perfect out of the box. In short, A great guitar for the money.
The contemporary series Squiers are getting a lot of notice by professional guitarist Genisses guitarist Mike Rutherford playes a Squier contemporary live on stage
Great Video! I bought one of these after some research. I wanted to mod it from the get go for the practice. The intonation was pretty close, no shim needed, and it action was fine on the one I received, but I bought it from Sweetwater. I ended up modding the headstock for some fender tuners, new Gotoh bridge, new switch, new pots, new caps, new knobs, new mint pickguard, and dressed the frets. I agree that the pickups are great and kept those. Your video was helpful to my endeavor and entertaining. Thanks!
Awesome, glad it helped you. What Gotoh bridge did you use? Was is a drop in replacement? That's gonna be my 1st mod on this as I'm not crazy about the bridge at all. Gonna eventually swap all the pots, switch, jack & caps as well but that's gonna be down the line.
@@VenancioPortalatin Gotoh Hard Tail bridge from StewMac. I didn’t see a model number, but if you search by that name on the site it comes up. Also available on Amazon, but it ships from StewMac anyway. 2 -1/16 string spacing. It fit exactly screw wise. The string through holes weren’t aligned perfectly, but didn’t cause an issue when I put new strings on it.
This is what is great about Sweetwater. They do a 55-point inspection (including set-up) on all guitars they sell for $299 or above. This guitar sells at SW for $299.99 and so meets the criteria. I always buy from SW when I can.

Thank you for the review and some nice tones. I really do not need another Tele, but I would buy this one just because of the finish and design, it's georgeous and elegant at once. A little dissapointing by the set up, that's something that bothers me a lot, the playability otb. I have thrown away some guitars (cheap ones) as the playability was hell...not worth spending for luthier as I was so angry already for those axes... Might be a considerable competitor for the HB TE-90FLT on my wish-list :) Stay safe and enjoy!
Just got one in charcoal frost and can't believe how nice it is!...all im changing is the pickgaurd to black, i saw one that had that done and it looks great...
Yeah, they're nice guitars. I unfortunately, sold mine and have regretted it ever since. Luckily they're not expensive so I very well might get another one sometime soon...lol
Great review, I'm glad there are more videos of this guitar popping up! I need a guitar with humbuckers for playing metal. I already have a telecaster (squier cv 50'y) and I like it a lot. Should I get this affinity tele deluxe, the contemporary tele rh or something else altogether? My budget is 500€
This guitar is a great one for most styles. If you play metal you'll really like the slim profile neck. That being said the contemporary has more modern output pickups which may suit your needs better. The main downside is if you're on a budget the Contemporary is almost $200 more then the Affinity deluxe. However, if you can afford a few bucks extra my guess is for metal you'd love the Contemporary. Either is a good choice though.
It's a great 1st guitar. I highly recommend it. If you get it then take it for a setup. It's worth the few extra dollars for what's overall a very nice guitar.
hey there! cool demo of the guitar! I have a neck that I think will be absolutely stunning with this guitar. Could you measure the body's pocket size where the neck joins in and let me know?
Unfortunately, I no longer have this guitar so I can’t. However, I have put many different necks on squiers and have yet to encounter one that wouldn’t fit. Fender necks, all parts, warmoth and a bunch of off brand stuff have all fit. Some with shims and minor pocket adjustments but they all fit.
Why does -almost- everyone review the one with indian laurel and not the one with maple? Can you tell me the difference between both? I'm thinking about getting one. They look & sound beautiful!
Only spec difference is the fingerboard. I have played both versions and couldn’t hear any difference in the neck woods. Typically maple is perceived to be slightly brighter as its a harder wood. Feel wise the maple is a little slicker because the finish. Either is a great option
@@VenancioPortalatin much appreciated, sir! I'm thinking in getting one, but here in México the maple one is cheaper than the indian laurel, so that was my doubt haha. But I love its black finish 😍 I very much appreciate your quick response, sir. I think I'll get the maple one. Greetings from México! ✌🏻
Squier is fender the low costs instruments will not be set up out of the box they expect people to go to the guitar shop and have the tec set it up for a price ..😅..
I half agree. While I don’t expect a guitar of this price range to have a perfect setup I do think Squier(Fender) could do a better job giving it a ballpark setup. This thing was not even close to having a setup. That’s not an issue for me as I have been doing my own setups for 30 years but a beginner could get turned off on trying to learn because they can’t play on an instrument that’s unplayable but they have no idea those things can be adjusted.
It is crazy that when buying a guitar new and you do not know how to set up (professionally!!) you need to spend another 50 bucks to have it set up, i understand this is step models in and budget guitars but even then , i know that Harley Benton sells guitars that out of the box are setup and well playable , I find this a very bad advertise for Squier , they should clean up if they want to compete with all the new budget stuff out there
Couldn’t agree more. Now even big brand expensive guitars can come with setup issues but with the market being saturated with more budget minded gear I agree Fender needs to step up on the Squier line.
Sorry you had a bad experience with yours. I agree the pots & bridge are cheap but it’s a cheap guitar so it’s expected. Personally I don’t mind the pickups though. Are they stellar? No, but tons better than a lot of pickups in that price range. I too had the paint chip not long after getting it. Bummed me out but I play my guitars and none are pristine so I got over..lol Currently have mine up for sale though because I since got a Les Paul so this one never gets played anymore.
My wife got me one from Sweetwater. That is one versatile and gorgeous guitar. Black on black with the maple beck.

Nice, you got lucky. I agree though it’s a killer guitar.
I'm interested in this guitar as well. How would you describe the neck?
@@eertje01 definitely thin profile neck but feels good.
I would love to see a video of guitar setup for beginners on how to adjust it to make sure it’s playable

Yeah, I have played a few of the contemporary series guitars. Lots of guitar for your money for sure.
I would like to see more guitar builds from you I learned a lot from you're past builds
I may do another build soon. Been thinking about another 3 or 4 part series but gotta decide on what guitar to build.
