Hi Dave, sounds awesome. I've just bought one of these on eBay, second hand but as good as new, it's in a lovely burgundy mist colour. I'm just starting out on my guitar journey at 62. Don't think I've got enough time left to live to get anywhere near as good as you😂but hopefully I will enjoy learning on this beautiful guitar 🙂
I own 6 Squiers and I love them, been on the hunt for this one for the past year. You scored a nice deal there indeed. Nice playing as well Dave and may the madness of the world make you wanna play more guitar 👍
God i had one of these waaay back in 2007, ive always missed it. This has spurred me on to find another!, that smile on the face says it all when you play her Dave, that's a connection that'll never break 👍
It warms my heart to hear you play that guitar after getting one earlier this year and am glad you like it so much. Poor thing needed some love and it certainly got it from yourself. It sits with my MIM telecaster which is also Black and I love them both.
Another excellent video. Dave’s playing style reminds me of all my favourite players of the early to mid 70’s. That was the only time I felt I understood rock guitar
Love the fact that a mistreated guitar fell in to the hands of the guitar wizard mr dave simpson. Thank you for saving it I love happy endings. Keep up the good work mr simpson
Sounds great Mr.Dave.....these used Classic Vibe Deluxe Telecasters start usually around 300,-- Euros so congrats to your deal...btw also congrats for 1000 new subscribers...your channel will constantly grow in the future... and you deserve it! greez from Germany!
Great guitar and demo. I have a Hohner Tele Deluxe from 1985 which is a stonker. Great low action player for decades but now needs a refret. Might treat her this year. Thanks for a great year of videos and keep them coming.
Squire are making some fantastic guitars nowadays, especially the Classic Vibe series. Dave, well done rescuing a beaten one, love your playing as always and thank you for a brilliant channel.
Try before you buy is still a good rule of thumb, but some squiers have a magic to them that makes them greater than the sum of their parts and defies the "low rent" stigma they had for decades
It may have been a bit knackered, but I call that one a bargain! IMO, some of the most rewarding guitars can be the ones you have to put some work into. At least on-camera, I also like the look of the paint after you sanded it down. It has a nice "worn" look. Sort of a little more "vintage", instead of it being just a glossy poly finish. It sounds great too. I always considered these to be a bit of a sleeper guitar. I think after this demo you might agree. A word about the "Wide-Range" pickups in this guitar though... Unfortunately, they are not true Wide-Range humbuckers in design and construction. They do have split adjustable pole pieces, similar to real Wide-Range humbuckers, but that's where the similarities between them end. Essentially, all Squire did was install a normal-sized humbucker under a Wide-Range cover, and the construction of the pickup is exactly like any traditional humbucker, except for the split pole pieces. The pickups in your guitar are regular humbuckers with steel slugs and steel adjustment screws with a bar magnet underneath, just like a regular humbucker. Whereas, what makes a true Wide-Range pickup a Wide-Range pickup is its unique construction. Instead of a typical bar magnet underneath the coils that magnetizes the steel screws and slugs, like in a regular humbucker, the coil design of a Wide-Range pickup is more akin to a Strat or Tele, in that it has individual magnet slugs, and the adjustable screws themselves are magnets as well! In addition, it also has a steel plate underneath the coils with no bar magnet. Also, the slugs and screws are made of a unique magnet material called CuNiFe, typically pronounced like "coo-nih-fay", which is part of the original design, and up until recently, even Fender themselves, as well as most aftermarket pickup makers, were not using this magnet material due to its lack of availability. Also, a true Wide-Range pickup's coils are slightly larger in size compared to a regular humbucker, and also has a few more turns of wire on average per coil to make up for the smaller magnet slug construction, instead of having a larger bar magnet underneath. Have a look at this diagram that shows the construction differences between a normal PAF-style humbucker and a true Wide-Range humbucker in the link below. Also, fun fact: the designer of Fender's Wide-Range pickup back in the early 70s was Seth Lover, who designed the PAF for Gibson in the 50s! 😉 images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5250d95ae4b0b7fca755d00d/1620499287110-IZKEDWYTHQATHLOL2H5A/210502+Figure+1.png It's those construction differences that makes a real Wide-Range pickup what it is, and unfortunately, none of the Squier "Wide-Range"-style pickups are made that way. They are just regular humbuckers with different adjustable pole piece placement. With all of that said, does this really matter? Not one bit. While these pickups may not be true to the Wide-Range pickup's sound and construction, I have always considered the Squire "Wide-Range"-style pickups to have excellent tone. They seem to vary from guitar to guitar, and from year to year, but when you get a good one they can be magical. Some of them have really nice clarity and balance, and some can sound even fatter than your average humbucker. Like a burly, get-out-of-my-way, big boy tone that can put some Les Pauls to shame. So, regardless of if they are constructed like real Wide-Range pickups or not, it's kind of irrelevant. Because tone is what wins the day more than anything else, and these pickups can sound great. Thanks for the great video, Dave! Great guitar, great playing and great tones! Cheers.
This guitar looks amazing! I need to try one. I wanted a double humbucker guitar but I'm not really a fan of les paul guitars so this might be it! (Except the white falcon i need one really bad)
Great find! I have it's older brother - the Vintage Modified Telecaster Custom, which is similar except for normal 'buckers and a Tele headstock. It plays better than my Fender Telecaster and is my goto for most things.
What a journey jam! I enjoy your sounds the only one Dave Simpson tha master!!! thank you very much and i.Wish you the best and luck in 2024 and a happy new year Dave!!✊💯💪
@@adiohead same! Love them. If you ever have the money to pony up for their tuning machines, those are amazing as well. Each tuner has a different gear ratio so that all strings feel the same when tuning. They’re pricey, but worth it if you have a few extra bucks to spend.
It’s great that you’ve salvaged a skip-bound wreck & given it new life. I’m a Strataholic & wasn’t a Tele fan but you’ve done a great job with that one. I’ve just bought a mint 2020 Squier Classic Vibe 50’s Tele from Cash Converters for £200. All I’ve done is change the saddles for brass compensated ones & it sounds killer. It’s changed my mind about Tele’s.
Nice video. Great sounds. The proper name would be a Les TelePauCaster. I have had a fairly high quality Japanese made Morris copy of a Tele Deluxe since 1987. I am quite partial to it and have never been able to find another guitar to take its place.
That sounds amazingly like Neil Young's black Les Paul with those microphonic pickups his has. Got a churchbell gong clank to the power chords that is massive! Good find Dave! Great sounding guitar...I think Glen Hansard played a blonde one in the Commitments film. Maybe his was a thinline but it had those wide range buckers on it I believe. Merry Christmas Dave!
i avoided watching this video until now because i’ve been thinking about buying one of these for years, and i didn’t want dave to make it sound like the most incredible guitar ever, in turn making me want to buy one even more. i think i’m probably gonna buy one soon now
Great video. Wonderful guitars - pretty much all the Squier Classic Vibe series. Love a deluxe Tele. A sensible Les Paul basically. Rather than a mahogany fireplace hanging around your neck, with a headstock that's just waiting to snap if the guitar slides off the sofa accidentally.
