    Magnesium. The material you're looking for is Magnesium. It's ultra light weight and sparks when dragged on the cement.

      May want to test magnesium off a quad. If you get it to 887F, the metal ignites into a 5,600F fire that requires a special extinguishing agent. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnesium
      Having said the above... this could be an epic video! :)

    • @michaelanthony8696

      Ferrocerium, that's what the sparking metals are made of, you can buy rods of it online, sometimes called ferro rod. Straight magnesium isn't going to do anything.

    • @mistercohaagen
      @mistercohaagen 7 лет назад +3

      Yeah, if the magnesium lights... it'll burn hot enough to get the carbon in your frame smoldering. It's worse than a Lipo fire. You use magnesium shavings from one of those survival thingies to get your tinder going (not that tinder, millennial), but you have to light it with the Ferrocerium sparks. We used to use a torch to light magnesium wire used as a fuse to set off thermite... twas epic. Now you have to build a quad that showers the crowd in burning thermite. and napalm. fffFIRE!!!

    Next level. I think a thin flexible tail holding the spark pad would be better. Then you could fly low nose up to drag it for sparks without landing might work. That way you're not technically crashing. Also, you could drag it across cement walls as long as it doesn't damage them.

    Quick tips for anyone trying to make this:
    1) the material the sparking rods were made of is ferosylium which is commonly used in fire starting (I have multiple rods of this.
    2)instead of buying the razer spark
    Thing just by a ferosylium rod (£10 for an inch)
    3)if u do not have the tools to cut the metal if u heat the rod up until it goes soft (in a fire or pan of some sort) u will be able to cut it into manageable chunks with a knife and then leave them to re-solidufy
    4)if u do use my method make sure the rod is all ferosylium as some are a small line of ferosylium encased in magnesium
    Hope I helped and have fun flying

    Put an extension past each of the two front motors and wheels on the end of extensions... then put the sparkers on just the rear engines so it doesnt catch the front edge and do an endo but does a front wheelie and recovers.

    ...and a new trend is born. How long until this is a product for quads? Ferrocerium Rod... I made boots with some when I was a kid doing dumb things on dirtbikes. I think you can get the rods in bulk on amazon and just chop them up with your angle grinder. Try a nylon or petg filament and make a whole slightly convex skid plate on the whole bottom, and J-B Weld instead of CA. Too cool tho; looked good.

    Cool Idea Bro, I don't know if you are old enough to remember Curb Sniffers, They were popular in the 70's on Low Riders and they were basically a flexible wire with the spark balls attached to the end and you mounted them to your fender wells so that you would not bang your chrome rims on the curb, but they would spark also if you drove close enough to the curb to drag them along. Maybe it would be better to have your sparkers not rigidly mounted but on a flexible antenna that hangs an inch or so below your landing gear so you can drag on the ground while still flying and not flip like you did. If the wire is flexible enough (like nitinol memory wire) then it just bends out of the way when you land. Either way Kudos on your execution of the challenge that was succesful and looked great.
