May want to test magnesium off a quad. If you get it to 887F, the metal ignites into a 5,600F fire that requires a special extinguishing agent. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnesium Having said the above... this could be an epic video! :)
Ferrocerium, that's what the sparking metals are made of, you can buy rods of it online, sometimes called ferro rod. Straight magnesium isn't going to do anything.
Yeah, if the magnesium lights... it'll burn hot enough to get the carbon in your frame smoldering. It's worse than a Lipo fire. You use magnesium shavings from one of those survival thingies to get your tinder going (not that tinder, millennial), but you have to light it with the Ferrocerium sparks. We used to use a torch to light magnesium wire used as a fuse to set off thermite... twas epic. Now you have to build a quad that showers the crowd in burning thermite. and napalm. fffFIRE!!!
i was sad when casey neistat stopped his daily vlogs...but then i started getting into drones ane fpv and now i'm thankfull for drew's uploads! fav channel on youtube at the moment!
I know a lot of us used to skate. We used to get those pads that you could screw to the tail of your deck. Super inefficient for flip tricks but fun for an old setup at night
This video is literally effing gold, the build up the music just everything.... so did it work............oh yeah , love these older vlogs alot much inspiration even in these crazy times, mad love and mad props drew.
Don't know if anyone has made the suggestion yet, but shaping the sparky bits like the bottom of a bowl, instead of a cylinder, may reduce rollovers. Very cool video, as usual!
Next level. I think a thin flexible tail holding the spark pad would be better. Then you could fly low nose up to drag it for sparks without landing might work. That way you're not technically crashing. Also, you could drag it across cement walls as long as it doesn't damage them.
Quick tips for anyone trying to make this: 1) the material the sparking rods were made of is ferosylium which is commonly used in fire starting (I have multiple rods of this. 2)instead of buying the razer spark Thing just by a ferosylium rod (£10 for an inch) 3)if u do not have the tools to cut the metal if u heat the rod up until it goes soft (in a fire or pan of some sort) u will be able to cut it into manageable chunks with a knife and then leave them to re-solidufy 4)if u do use my method make sure the rod is all ferosylium as some are a small line of ferosylium encased in magnesium Hope I helped and have fun flying
Put an extension past each of the two front motors and wheels on the end of extensions... then put the sparkers on just the rear engines so it doesnt catch the front edge and do an endo but does a front wheelie and recovers.
You can also use Titanium. That will give tons of sparks and hold up for a while. Its more expensive but last longer. Low riders have been using this for years out here in California.
sparklers in the front really tends to let the quad flip over. i would look for some really smooth concrete without any cracks, where it could get stuck and flip over.
drew, home depot sells spark tips for a acetylene torch lighters and the best part is they're threaded used to use them on the back of our skateboards as a kid
Cool stuff. Back in the day I had bagged and body dropped vehicles. Had titanium plate welded on to spark when we dragged the trucks. Reminds me of that. Nice flying. Subscribed
Like that touch and go @8:21. I keep a decent supply of these skidz on hand. Installed on 'SPYDER' and 'CONFUSION;' both MQC Fusions. They difinitetly are an ingenious creation. Going the way of Armattan, I'll see how they function on both Rooster and the Chameleon Ti.
...and a new trend is born. How long until this is a product for quads? Ferrocerium Rod... I made boots with some when I was a kid doing dumb things on dirtbikes. I think you can get the rods in bulk on amazon and just chop them up with your angle grinder. Try a nylon or petg filament and make a whole slightly convex skid plate on the whole bottom, and J-B Weld instead of CA. Too cool tho; looked good.
What if you used a flexible armature to hold the spark maker down? It could skip along the cracks and not send kwad into death roll? Love your work. Keep it up.
One more thought...maybe a crazy led build. I haven’t seen a really well done one fly good. Make it look like a space ship and shine spotlights on people and freak em out?
With titanium it makes beautiful sparks and it does not consume too much and above all, it is very light ... 😉 in contrast, in France it is expensive, I do not know in the united state if it is also expensive ... 😉 in any case, it makes good, and gives good ideas !! Thank you and good flight !
Cool Idea Bro, I don't know if you are old enough to remember Curb Sniffers, They were popular in the 70's on Low Riders and they were basically a flexible wire with the spark balls attached to the end and you mounted them to your fender wells so that you would not bang your chrome rims on the curb, but they would spark also if you drove close enough to the curb to drag them along. Maybe it would be better to have your sparkers not rigidly mounted but on a flexible antenna that hangs an inch or so below your landing gear so you can drag on the ground while still flying and not flip like you did. If the wire is flexible enough (like nitinol memory wire) then it just bends out of the way when you land. Either way Kudos on your execution of the challenge that was succesful and looked great.
Please tell me that broken window was from you guys?!? Lol, I'm guessing it wasn't. The sparking skids idea is great! GapIt can now do sparkling perch slides off the top of lampposts! I think epoxy would be better if you do this again. PS, nice 86.
You bought some flint on Amazon ! Jeees.. the ground here at the southdowns is full of the stuff, we have so much we build houses and walls from the stuff lying around. Funny how here is is considered scrap rock and for you it is something you pay money for.
Looks like a success. You might want to add motor guards or prop guards if you intend on doing some heavy scraping. King Kong is the name that comes to mind even though I don't use their products. They look decent actually.
I guess your new nickname is sparky now. if you redesign your holders to have a cross or some other pattern in the bottom of the hole preferably a dovetail and use epoxy I think you would have better retention. also I would score the bottom of the spark device with a die grinder or Dremel (groves ) to give more surface area to glue to.
maybe if your flint material was not of cylinder shape (sharp edges) but rather like a half sphere then you would have fewer mishaps on touch down ? btw. enjoying your content here because (as somebody already noted below) your vlogs are calm (as in not over the top with screaming, swearing, bashing things around) and non-arrogant while still keeping it interesting for the viewer to watch from start to the end/fin
Hahaha!! you are legit awesome drew, its been a while since i watched your videos i been sick and not motivated to get on youtube, going to watch them all and catch up!!
awesome idea! :D I like to go low and fast and skit along the ground too but I just have bits of wood hot glued to my foam pads LOL I need to find some of these sparky bits and try this now!
Is that the new DJI Spark?
lmao yesss
wait i assumed you were making a punny joke, if not then no it is definitely not a DJI Spark lol
It is the MQC Fusion, Le Drib Edition Spark-ler. Just in time for the 4th of July holiday!
Ferrocerium rod or also called fire steal try the fire starters
superb joke
Taking it to the next level - and not being arrogant while doing so. Most watchable vlog in FPV at the moment. Top work.
Thank you ☺️
Magnesium. The material you're looking for is Magnesium. It's ultra light weight and sparks when dragged on the cement.
👍🏻
May want to test magnesium off a quad. If you get it to 887F, the metal ignites into a 5,600F fire that requires a special extinguishing agent. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnesium
Having said the above... this could be an epic video! :)
You beat me to it.. Yes Magnesium is what you need...
Ferrocerium, that's what the sparking metals are made of, you can buy rods of it online, sometimes called ferro rod. Straight magnesium isn't going to do anything.

oh snap this plus a concrete skate park could make some cool shots
Oo that's a good idea. The slips would make for extra long slidezzz
Hit up the half pipe and try to get vertical skidz right out of a dive.
I vote this as well
Yes great idea. 👍👍
its so rare to see something new in an fpv video these days. this turned out great, could well be the next hype train... nice job man!
🚂🔥🔥
now modify a vape thingy, attach to the quad and do smoke streams
Hahah would be sick if it could be turned on/off with a switch
There's a turnigy on/off switch relay that can do that
flare, job done
I had that scooter when I was about 9 you ride super fast and then hold down the break and sparks fly everywhere
Hahah nice!
Lol me too
Andrews RC me too haha
i was sad when casey neistat stopped his daily vlogs...but then i started getting into drones ane fpv and now i'm thankfull for drew's uploads! fav channel on youtube at the moment!
😁 thank you
Wow Drew! That was one of the most chilled & nicest FPV videos I seen in a while. Great blend! Had me hooked from start to finish.
I know a lot of us used to skate. We used to get those pads that you could screw to the tail of your deck. Super inefficient for flip tricks but fun for an old setup at night

The cut to the chase pun has earned you my subscription!!

Oo that's an interesting idea especially for wall rides....
Quick tips for anyone trying to make this:
1) the material the sparking rods were made of is ferosylium which is commonly used in fire starting (I have multiple rods of this.
2)instead of buying the razer spark
Thing just by a ferosylium rod (£10 for an inch)
3)if u do not have the tools to cut the metal if u heat the rod up until it goes soft (in a fire or pan of some sort) u will be able to cut it into manageable chunks with a knife and then leave them to re-solidufy
4)if u do use my method make sure the rod is all ferosylium as some are a small line of ferosylium encased in magnesium
Hope I helped and have fun flying

Great job. Gotta do this on a night flight. Just enough light to fly but enough darkness to see the sparks better
Cool video! Magnesium on concrete will spark the best, and since concrete is smoother it will slide without so much tumbling.
Right on man! That was probably your best video I've seen yet. Top notch flying, and fun. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome idea, that worked out really well. I bet a wall grind on a brick wall would look really great with that setup.
Yes, yes. The flow is strong with this one. And his pun game isn't too bad either😂
dat rewind @4:44 is insane. so clean. actually looks like youd rewind the tape
he flips the roll at the peak which gives it the rewind stronjg rewind effect. damn
You can also use Titanium. That will give tons of sparks and hold up for a while. Its more expensive but last longer. Low riders have been using this for years out here in California.
Hey Drew, In the old days my dad used to use Magnesium on the bottom of his lowriders to make them spark. Awesome videos!! Keep'em coming.
Thanks Manuel! Yeah seems like titanium and magnesium are the good materials for sparks :)
Now just a nice trail of petrol on the ground........
Daaaaang wish I had thought of that! Haha
The skid n take off was crazy but saw the cartwheels coming lol Awesome man!!!
sparklers in the front really tends to let the quad flip over.
i would look for some really smooth concrete without any cracks, where it could get stuck and flip over.
FR-S! That's my favorite car, yet another thing to love about your vlogs. Great video as usual Drib! 👍
drew, home depot sells spark tips for a acetylene torch lighters and the best part is they're threaded used to use them on the back of our skateboards as a kid
Really..... I'll have to get to HD soon 🔥
The edges on the metal rod stubs were probably catching on larger embedded stones, etc. and flipping the quad.
Cool stuff. Back in the day I had bagged and body dropped vehicles. Had titanium plate welded on to spark when we dragged the trucks. Reminds me of that. Nice flying. Subscribed
Nice I think I need titanium motors screws 😈
another great music selection.....& good fun. Thanks!

Man, you flying so clean. awesome video!
That is so cool! Love your style of videos, you are becoming one of my favorites on RUclips.
...and a new trend is born. How long until this is a product for quads? Ferrocerium Rod... I made boots with some when I was a kid doing dumb things on dirtbikes. Sparky skids, the new hype lol
Looking up ferrocerium rods now 😈
What if you used a flexible armature to hold the spark maker down? It could skip along the cracks and not send kwad into death roll?
Love your work. Keep it up.
Yes. I need these! Please, let us know when you take'em to market.
This is my favorite of all your videos.
In this video: *Sparks Sparks and more SPARKS*
Cool idea and video Drew. Yep and round 2 needed in full darkness.
Best channel for fpv. Nice job bro...
One more thought...maybe a crazy led build. I haven’t seen a really well done one fly good. Make it look like a space ship and shine spotlights on people and freak em out?
awesome Video drew, good music selection! greetings from germany!
Before the sparks. Super slick moves! Really cool glides. Keep up the awesome work. Sub'd.
For the supper glue problem use a fine sand paper to get it out of your sticky fingers once is dry on our skin.
Hope it will help!
Why not make your landings beautiful? Look cool even when failing XD
diggin the frs such a sick car 👍some smooth footage as well
Chase S yawn
Gotta be honest, it’s waaay cooler than what I expected :D
how many motors were injured or killedi in the making of this vid ?
too many 😭
With titanium it makes beautiful sparks and it does not consume too much and above all, it is very light ... 😉 in contrast, in France it is expensive, I do not know in the united state if it is also expensive ... 😉 in any case, it makes good, and gives good ideas !! Thank you and good flight !
Super creative and entertaining ! I love your stuff ! I follow passionately your vlog from Switzerland, very inspiring :) keep going !
Thank you! Appreciate the encouragement :)
Lipos are amazing sparking skid plates!
you didn't happen to have anything to do with that plywood in the window did you LOL 😂
Hahah no
Pretty cool idea. Also I am digging the FR-S. Props to keeping the manual transmission alive! =)
😎👍🏻

I'm liking that idea to hang it from antenna tube or something.... thanks!
Please tell me that broken window was from you guys?!? Lol, I'm guessing it wasn't. The sparking skids idea is great! GapIt can now do sparkling perch slides off the top of lampposts! I think epoxy would be better if you do this again. PS, nice 86.
Hehe, that was my first thought too. I bet someone went overboard with the nerf war on the inside and did a large-tumbler right through the window.
Hahah no we had nothing to do with the window.
Good call in the rpoxy
I was a little "Meh, how ya going" about it but ..... I like it !!!!!! Nice work Dribby
Haha thanks!
titanium would work for sparks, used to use ti screws on my 1/8th scale buggies and i would get sparks when landing from jumps
Some poor kid is going to try this and wreck his drone lol
Lol oh no now I feel bad in advance
Ya with his $30 syma
Magnesium usually makes a blue spark and would work. Mini truckers have been doing it forever
some really nice smooth flying.
At 5:23 the building you're bombing has a boarded up window. Drew wouldn't, ahem, know anything about that? lol
Haha! No, I dont know what happened to that window
Keep chasing the golden hour man puts ur brand on it
You bought some flint on Amazon ! Jeees.. the ground here at the southdowns is full of the stuff, we have so much we build houses and walls from the stuff lying around. Funny how here is is considered scrap rock and for you it is something you pay money for.

Yeah something to protect the motors would've been smart... I really didn't think I'd be crashing so much! Lol
so sick dude!! Love it! Always with good entertaining content :)
Thanks! :)

a not annoying drone vlog, wow i didn't think it was possible without yelling.
Marty McFly mr Steele couph couph lol
YEY, That was pretty dope!
Now you started something !! great vid Drew many thanks :)
The new hype!
Nice new car! this is your style. you never seemed like a truck guy to me.
That's so dope, glad you figured out how to do it
😁 thanks for the idea
Daang Jeff, you so faaaaast tho!! that was beyond sick
maybe if your flint material was not of cylinder shape (sharp edges) but rather like a half sphere then you would have fewer mishaps on touch down ? btw. enjoying your content here because (as somebody already noted below) your vlogs are calm (as in not over the top with screaming, swearing, bashing things around) and non-arrogant while still keeping it interesting for the viewer to watch from start to the end/fin
Hahaha!! you are legit awesome drew, its been a while since i watched your videos i been sick and not motivated to get on youtube, going to watch them all and catch up!!
I've missed ya buddy. Sorry to hear you havent been feeling well :/
Hope youre back to 100% quick!
Please more sparking action! :)
I think if you round them like a bearing they will work just fine.
That was really cool and a fun idea!
Way to add expense to the hobby lol.. Sick tunes !!
MATE!!! That was a cool video. Loved the chase s towards the end.
Aussie
Now I have to get 3d printer, that was awesome bro!
The angel grinder made more sparks. You should've kept that on there. But I guess you would then need a really long extension cord!
Haha not sure my drone could lift an angle grinder!
Hope this is more popular that whistle tips!
awesome idea! :D I like to go low and fast and skit along the ground too but I just have bits of wood hot glued to my foam pads LOL I need to find some of these sparky bits and try this now!
Do eeet!
Freaking awesome. Night flying parking lots , yeah why not
Titanium screws spark pretty nice as well
Honestly I miss these old vids
1st time viewer. Most imressive, mst impressive. Subbed. Nice work. Jeff
titanium bolts or zippo lighter flints will also work for sparks
I loved the guest appearance of Silent Bob at about 6:46
Wow sparkling Skitzo~
Get yourself some titanium knee sliders(for motorcycles) or just use TI screws on your motors. = Big bright sparks.
You have a GT86? I'm pretty jealous, that's my (realistic) dream car.
dude wish i had a drone shop like that near me
Looks good but need away to connect them like the factory. But I'm not sure if it was my drone I would crash more than skidding. Thanks for the info.
Just a idea. Why dont you try using small wheels in the front and skids on the back?
Dude! You just invented a new drone sport!
That smooth freestyle
Omggg I have the drift bike for that spark pad looool! It does need replacing!😂😂😂
