When I saw them in Providence back in '79, they opened with "King of the Nightime World," a great hard rockin' tune. Also, it's the first time I ever witnessed use of transmitters. I had started playing guitar, and bought a terrible black Les Paul copy, but I used it for experimenting. I went out and bought a tie-clip mic (transmitter) from Radio- Shack and removed the mini-mic from the board. I wired it into the guitar output and installed inside the guitar. I could now play through any FM radio. It created awesome distortion when I wanted, as I ran a small FM radio speaker out into my amp. Fun times!
This episode was pure Gold. Awesome Guest and some great stories. I remember meeting with Lydia Criss At the very early N.Y. Kiss conventions in N.J. and she was selling a sweater that she made for Peter with a Cat Logo on it. I remember that I thought it was cool and strange at the same time. Lots of very personal items but now I understand why. She was trying to make money to finance her book. Hopefully she is the female guest next week. We shall see
Wow, I was totally engrossed in that episode. Thanks to you all for putting one hell of a lot of back-story to my Love Gun stage blueprints, absolutely fascinating. Later this year I hope to complete my KISS Alive II obsession by flying over and finally visiting the L.A. Forum...😋
Wow! Mindblowing episode!! Backstage Auctions is such a very cool site for KISS and all Rock collectors in general I really encourage everyone to check it out if You have not already. The fate of the stage items was crazy!! I live in Mechanicsburg Pennsylvania about a hour from Philly and as a KISS collector starting in the 70's it blows My mind to think I could have been by that warehouse numerous times and had no idea vintage KISS heaven was on the other side of the wall!!!! I often wondered what ever happened to that cool Castle stage Ozzy had back on the Diary of a Madman tour. Can You imagine owning a piece of that stage where Randy Rhoads once played?!!!Awesome show Guys!!! Thanks so much You 3 make every week a good one!!!!😊
SOOOO many amazing points to mention about this AMAZING unassuming interview BUT favorite of all was at 2:24:15 Michael: "Would you do an auction for Vinnie?" Jacques: "I would only do his auction if it's on planet earth." ;) hilarious!!! Literally laughed out loud! Guys, I'm listening everyday! I've watched ALL the episodes, have you ever considered bumping up the episodes bi-weekly? :)
Kiss was on the cover of Circus magazine in the 1970s, they supported Kiss pre 1980s. I mention this to correct a statement made by Michael earlier in this episode re: magazines which put Kiss on the cover earlier in their career. Just google images KISS and Circus to see. Great show as usual. Only wanting to make certain Kisstory is properly documented:)
Have to correct something Mark said. Killers wasn't Iron Maiden's first album. It was their 2nd. Their 1st album was self-titled. Also, I remember reading somewhere that Sebastian Bach, the ex singer of Skid Row, has a lot of Kiss stage props in his personal collection.
Weren't any of you at the Butterfield Kiss auction?? It was unbelievable and things went really cheap. Those wireless units sold for $125! I bought one of the empty dummy Marshall cabinets from the 74-75 tours for $350.
My friend worked for kiss for 15 years. Was on the bus behind the one that took cliff burtons life. Anyway he was treated well. When his son was killed in a car accident both gene and paul sent 5k for expensive s. I have a few guitars with parts from the ones paul broke. Also have stage trusses that we pulled out of the warehouse dumpster in L.A. the whole thing was tossed all aluminum
Back in the day there also was a book/magazine store a couple shops down from Sam's Jams and I would get every Circus magazine that had kiss on the cover, I also got 16, Creem, ect.. It pisses me off that I cut them up, hung the posters and eventually just threw them all away. Wish I kept the posters at least, oh well, lol...
Just speaking of Sam's Jams, I remember that's where I bought the Rock n' roll over album, and I bought a really cool 8x10 photo of Kiss standing in front of the Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Blvd., don't have it no more, but I still have all my Kiss records.
I saw Dynasty. It was very stylized. I also saw Kiss do : Whole lotta love the same tour . In the end , Ace was right. The reunion was the pay off we were waiting on. 🎸🍸
The Scooby Doo meets Kiss Video was a great blast & bringing the two favourites together was good marketing .. exposing Kiss to a younger audience & I liked how they poked fun at themselves.. loved the Ascot song .. putting it in the Mystery Machine cd player .. nice touch !! The music in the movie was really great sound, was it re-recorded for the movie ??
Great to have a European perspective on Kisstory. Funfact: On the described Tour Iron Maiden opened for Kiss. When I have seen Kiss for the first time, it was in the late 80's, at the Monsters of Rock in Bochum, Germany and guess who played as headliner that night? It was Iron Maiden, and they were far bigger at that time!
Question: How is Eddie Kramer legally allowed to sell the master tapes to Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti? I would assume Jimmy Page as the producer would be the rightful/legal owner and not Eddie Kramer who was the engineer?
I guess it's true you learn something new everyday-I've been a KISS fan for 40 plus years and never heard of "Sam the Serpent" I'm guessing that's the snake behind Gene's head on my KISS lunchbox from 1978-shame on me
Mark, the top of your wish list was the Fire Sword? How about those Eddie Kramer multi track tapes live from Japan for the "Lost Alive II". I get the cycle of 3 albums prior to live album, however, I have never heard the definitive story as to why they waited for the LA Forum shows to re-record material later that year.
Of course Mark has it... he has the Reunion tour Auburn Hills Palace show footage where I was front row! ...which he won't come off of! The very best time I've ever had for a live KISS experience, and Cicchini won't budge because of a promise he made to Gene. That said, he's obviously a great guy of honor and integrity.
HEY GUYS GREAT SHOW, JUST STARTED TO VIEW!PLEASE EXCUSE THE CAPS MY BUTTON IS BROKEN!!! I WATCHED EPISODE 147, ABOUT THE MAKE UP AND STUFF, I BELIEVE THAT ACE SOLD HIS MAKE UP, BUT I KNOW FOR A FACT HE DID NOT GIVE IT AWAY HE GETS A CHECK EVERY MONTH FROM GENE AND PAUL! I AM A DISABLED LOCAL 28 SHEETMETAL WORKER, AND I DID I JOB UP IN WESTCHESTER NY, ABOUT 3YRS AFTER ACE WAS OFFICIALLY OUT OF THE BAND . I BECAME FRIENDS WITH A LOCAL 38 GUY WHO DID ALL THE WORK IN ACE'S STUDIO THAT HE HAD BUILT AT THE END OF HIS DAYS IN THE LATE 70'S VERY EARLY 80'S. WE WERE TALKING 1 DAY IN MY TRUCK AND I HAVE A REAL 26X20 PICTURE OF ACE TAKEN AT MSG DURING THE ALIVE TOUR! I HAPPENED TO BE MOVING AND IT WAS A LATE NIGHT AND OVER LOOKED BRINGING IT IN TO THE HOUSE NEIL TURNS TO ME AND SAYS DO YOU WANT TO GO GET THAT AUTOGRAPHED? MY JAW DROPED! I SAID YOUR FULL OF IT, HE SAID LET ME DRIVE I WON'T LET YOU DOWN YOUARE MY BOSS AND I HELPED HIM OUT BIG TIME BECAUSE HE WAS OUT OF WORK FOR A LONG TIME! I MADE HIM A PERMENANT PART OF OUR COMPANY.HE WAS VERY GRACIUOS. WE PULL UP TO THIS NICE FANCY PIZZA JOINT IN WESTCHESTER, I AM LOOKING AT HIM SAYING WHAT THE FUCK WAS GOING ON, IT WAS EARLY DURING THE DAY . WE WALKED TO THE BACK OF THE RESTURANT AND SITTING AT THE TABLE IS F@#$%^g ACE FREHLEY! I LOOKED AT HIM AND HE SAYS HEY ANTHONY NEIL TELLS ME YOUR A BIG KISS FAN. I SAID NO I AM YOUR #1 FAN AND THE 3 OF US BUST OUT LAUGHING AND WE SAT THEIR TALKING FOR 3 HRS AND I WAS ABLE TO ASK HIM 1 QUESTION THAT WAS HOW MUCH DID THEY PAY YOU TO LET THAT PUSSY WHO DID NOT HAVE THE BALLS TO SAY I WILL NOT WEAR SOMEONE ELSE'S MAKE UP I WILL CREATE MY OWN AND YOU PAY ME THE SAME. HE SAID I GET PAID VERY WELL EVERY MONTH FOR THAT CLOWN TO GET ON STAGE AND PRETEND TO LOOK LIKE ME! I KNOW YOU GUYS THINK US ACE FANS ARE BEATING A DEAD HORSE BUT DID ANYONE EVER THINK THAT THE BULLSHIT WITH THE PHSYCO CIRCUS ALBUM HAD TO HAVE HURT ACE AND PETER?
I wonder if Jacques knows Joop van Pelt? Joop ran the dutch fanzine KISS Kollector which I subscribed to in the early 90s up untill the reunion. Wonder where he went and what stories he might have from back then.. Great episode guys! :)
I got a question, does anyone know ? Around 1979 1980 or something, the Johnson Smith Novelty Company we're selling, 3 3/4" size bendable Kiss figures, I think they might have been bootleg items, they were available through there mail order catalog and in comic book ads. I think they are very rare, because I've never actually seen them besides the ads. I should have ordered them then. I really wish I could find them. So, does anyone know anything about those, or ever heard about those bendable figures they had around 1979 1980 offered by Johnson Smith Novelties?
Update.. I found a website (plaidstallion.com) that mentions them, it says they were planned to be released by Mego, but never were. But if these were the ones I remember seeing, then they were released and available to buy. So yea, if anyone remembers those bendable figures being offered by the Johnson Smith Novelties in comic book ads around 79 80, let me know. I remember them being cheap to, like $1.00 each through the mail. If I could just go back in time I would have ordered them, lol...
Jennifer Anne wow! thanks for that I never knew those existed! being near the Mexican border I remember flea markets back in the late70s would have their own (what looked to be) manufactured kiss figures that came in a bag..kinda like the knock off Barbie dolls that were found at supermarkets. I came here for the candelabra. I received Alive for Christmas 1976 - 10 years old. About wore the grooves off that day. Stood it up on my dresser when I went to bed. The last thing I saw before I turned the lights out was that d#%n candelabra. I had not noticed it before. Scared the crap out of me. Had to hide the thing under the dresser.
I watched the movie with my 4 year old son. He loves KISS. I honestly didn't think about "Don't Touch My Ascot" being the guys from KISS. Pretty cool. The one thing I did notice, it sounded like all the other songs were re-recorded. Detroit Rock City sounded badass. Gene's bass was way more present in all of it. Just wondering if they were redone for the movie or if there are re-recorded albums out there?
If I was the one who worked at that warehouse, it would be me walking out the back door with Sam T. Serpent. You better believe it. I wouldn't care about the consequences. To wake up each morning knowing Sam Serpent is standing in my foyer, I'd definitely be a happier person.
All this mention of all these well known bands opening for kiss, when I saw them in 78, they had some lame band called the rockets open up. Philadelphia Spectrum. Never heard of them again.
Heard that Sam the serpent and Peters cats from the destroyer tour, ended up in a dumpster at a Pennsylvania club called pulsations when it closed. I was in that place once and would never thought those who things would ever have been there.
at work watching my fav.show on the net......................great show guys kool info on the stage props and stuff.i look forward to tuesdays keep giving us fans the hottest show in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunate that you guys who don’t appear to have personal experience judge this as a typical “business.” I toured with KISS on the Alive-Worldwide tour. I also toured for 10+ years with dozens of bands at different levels & stages in the careers. TM, SM, security & backline tech. My personal opinion is that Gene Simmons & Nikki Sixx are the 2 most horrible people to work with on the road. I watched Gene throw gear and spit on techs. That tour was full of ridiculous rules . Peter & Ace were friendly & I never heard either of them complain at or about the crew. Using someone like Andre, a great guy and amazing coworker, Rocco or Doc is not representative of the “little people” on tour. It’s not about business it’s about the way you treat people and make them feel. Sorry to spoil the illusion and I can’t speak to how they might have been before or since but it was not a pleasant experience. Of all my tours big & small, I have never seen so many “little people” quit over the course of a tour cycle. Thx for the interesting content.
Alot if not most of Eric Carr's collection from over the years was ruined in storage due to weather damage, his sister was telling me that recently they had to start going through the building and throw stuff away.
+Michael Brandvold Too afraid to show his face but I'm 19 and I love the show make me wonder if kiss themselves know we're the old stage props are and the original 70s costumes you guys should do an episode talking about there costumes
+Michael Brandvold LOL, do you have an 'abridged version' for those of us who can't devote 2 hours per show? I'd love to take the time to listen to this, but I just can't devote 2 hours!
Hello There Nope, Gene didn't fly when I saw him. I read that they had a lot of problems with effects on that tour, so I wonder if that had anything to do with it.
I have no problem with The Melvins or Alice in Chains and I saw both of them open for kiss and they were both excellent. Melvin's even redo going blind and it's a great version. Alice in Chains of the 90s hell there was no better band from the grunge era or bigger I mean that album Dirt was incredible. They were much better than Nirvana and some would argue that Nirvana was a bigger band but I don't think so. They might have been opening for kiss but Alice in Chains was a pretty damn big band as well at that time. I mean they were selling out huge Arenas just like Kiss was I mean they didn't have to go on tour with kiss they we're not largely unknown at that point they were massively huge rolling in the dough rockstars..... but it was an opportunity to tour with your Heroes. Once in a lifetime opportunity so why not. But now that Layne Staley been gone Alice in Chains is not the band that used to be but The Melvins are still rocking hard.
You had to “sit” through Alice In Chains?!? Alice In Chains is a great band and was really really big in 96. That’s the most absurd statement I’ve ever heard.
After hearing the story of Sam The Serpent, I googled and found something about not only Sam but the 2 cats on either side of Peter's drums. Check out this url and scroll about 1/3 of the way down. concertstagedesign.blogspot.com/2010/11/kiss-destroyer-tour-1976.html Just shameless thieves.
When I saw them in Providence back in '79, they opened with "King of the Nightime World," a great hard rockin' tune. Also, it's the first time I ever witnessed use of transmitters. I started listening to KISS when I was 10 years old back in 1978. I sing, write songs and play Bass.
Another amazing guest, another guest with so much character. He seemed super genuine and friendly. Thanks!
Love you Ace...Shock Me
This came up in my feed today and I'm going to say this is the best interview you've ever had. Holy crap Jaques. Wow.
This is a really good show. You got me back into KISS due to your enthusiasm and I am now pulling out my old collectibles and records. Cheers!
This should be a great episode. I love Tuesday's even if I am working or suppose to be working.
Vader 97 Yep turned out to be a great show. Very interesting. Not too much work completed today.
This episode was pure Gold.
Awesome Guest and some great stories.

"It's not the music friends, it's the music business."
At last, been waiting for this one...I bought the original Love Gun Can/Am Tour blueprints from Backstage Auctions about 10 years ago...
websitemad you should post these somewhere
another awesome guest!jacques seems like a great guy.i enjoyed listening to his experiences.well done guys!
I got away from your show for awhile but this was a great episode and I hope you have Jacque back on again soon

Jacques is one lucky guy! Right place, right time. Wow!
The episode rocked, great stories & behind the scenes info .. knocked it out of the park guys !!
my heart is broken over the alive II stairs
Yeah that stage was over the top COOL!!!!
SOOOO many amazing points to mention about this AMAZING unassuming interview BUT favorite of all was at 2:24:15
Michael: "Would you do an auction for Vinnie?"
Jacques: "I would only do his auction if it's on planet earth."
;) hilarious!!! Literally laughed out loud!

CIRCUS was the best.
So Tommy would rather see Buckcherry than Alice in Chains? Lol...Unreal
It’s actually unreal that you waste your time concerned about what someone else enjoys.
hey guys i got a question on the kiss stuff what is the holy grail of all ? or is they more than one item that qualifies?
Loved these stories
Have to correct something Mark said. Killers wasn't Iron Maiden's first album. It was their 2nd. Their 1st album was self-titled. Also, I remember reading somewhere that Sebastian Bach, the ex singer of Skid Row, has a lot of Kiss stage props in his personal collection.

The clothes, artwork and guitars were VERY expensive though. All the things you can hang on a wall like an office or the Hard Rock.
Hey Mark, Sam's Jams Records was in Ferndale on 9mile, cool store, use to go their all the time as a kid, lol..
Back in the day there also was a book/magazine store a couple shops down from Sam's Jams and I would get every Circus magazine that had kiss on the cover, I also got 16, Creem, ect.. Great to have a European perspective on Kisstory.

Great show guys!
Awesome interview..
Great show guys. Mrs.Cicchini, please give Mark an extra slice of meatloaf this week, he deserves it.
You guys should do another one with Jacques! He's the real deal!
Question: How is Eddie Kramer legally allowed to sell the master tapes to Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti?
I would assume Jimmy Page as the producer would be the rightful/legal owner and not Eddie Kramer who was the engineer?
I guess it's true you learn something new everyday-I've been a KISS fan for 40 plus years and never heard of "Sam the Serpent" I'm guessing that's the snake behind Gene's head on my KISS lunchbox from 1978-shame on me
Maybe I missed it, but was he able to sell the ALIVE II stage stairs? Unbelievable story there.
Great show.
Mark, the top of your wish list was the Fire Sword? How about those Eddie Kramer multi track tapes live from Japan for the "Lost Alive II".
I get the cycle of 3 albums prior to live album, however, I have never heard the definitive story as to why they waited for the LA Forum shows to re-record material later that year.
amazing episode.interesting subject matter.u guys rock
Of course Mark has it... he has the Reunion tour Auburn Hills Palace show footage where I was front row! ...which he won't come off of! What about the cool 70s CHOPPERS from the posters and magazine centerfolds??????????
Did you guys like the Treatment as the opening act for the Crue and Kiss in 2012
HEY GUYS GREAT SHOW, JUST STARTED TO VIEW!PLEASE EXCUSE THE CAPS MY BUTTON IS BROKEN!!!
I KNOW YOU GUYS THINK US ACE FANS ARE BEATING A DEAD HORSE BUT DID ANYONE EVER THINK THAT THE BULLSHIT WITH THE PHSYCO CIRCUS ALBUM HAD TO HAVE HURT ACE AND PETER?
Anthony Marchetti boo
I wonder if Jacques knows Joop van Pelt? Joop ran the dutch fanzine KISS Kollector which I subscribed to in the early 90s up untill the reunion. Wonder where he went and what stories he might have from back then.. Great episode guys! :)
I am a serious KISS collector and am very curious to see what all Mark has in his collection.

Jennifer Anne wow! thanks for that I never knew those existed! being near the Mexican border I remember flea markets back in the late70s would have their own (what looked to be) manufactured kiss figures that came in a bag..kinda like the knock off Barbie dolls that were found at supermarkets. I've hunted high and low and can't seem to find those.
cool memories ha!
I agree with all you guys …. I LOVE " Don't touch my Ascot " Fantastic ! Great Show ….. Superb !
Had to hide the thing under the dresser.

lol that would be awesome but it's kinda sad what happen to the love gun steps
30:00 The Oath sounds Maideny
What became of the glowing eyed CAT goddess props from drumriser on love gun tour
I left a comment on the drum cat props. If they were put in trash that is criminal.
Nikki Sixx has sold most of his most famous Bass's and some really rare items and made alot of money doing it.
you "had to sit thru" the Melvins and Alice in Chains..you say that like its a bad thing?
You guys nailed it with them following up the priest tour and KISS being completely out of touch with their audience
the Mark guy is sooo freaking annoying...
Keith Wayne Amen!!!! Ugh....
Yes
at work watching my fav.show on the net......................great show guys kool info on the stage props and stuff.i look forward to tuesdays keep giving us fans the hottest show in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alice In Chains with KISS would be AMAZING!
markiss i can understand how all that stuff would wind up on jendal or somewhere
thanks for a cool show
i know where some of these items went (sam and the candelabra and even the cats)and the final fate of the love gun stairs and the details :)
Care to share your knowledge with the rest of us. ☺
I had no idea J.T. Walsh cohosted this on the side.
As much as I love The Melvin’s they pulled more than Cheap trick? Must’ve been a dif deal
The guest mixed up his dates. Bon Jovi opened for Kiss in Europe on the 1984 Animalize tour not 1983.
Unfortunate that you guys who don’t appear to have personal experience judge this as a typical “business.” I toured with KISS on the Alive-Worldwide tour. I do have personal experience, I worked for the band for 7 years.
Alot if not most of Eric Carr's collection from over the years was ruined in storage due to weather damage, his sister was telling me that recently they had to start going through the building and throw stuff away.
why is vinnie paul stuck between james hetfield and his twin brother ?
I actually like 'Don't Touch My Ascot'. Kinda reminds me of 'Tommy's Holiday Camp' by The Who.
This show is proof that older, original KISS fans DON'T age well!
+AudiophileTubes how have you aged? Or are you too afraid to show yourself?

28:00 they couldn’t bring everything
There's an Eric Carr destroyer mock up out there? I'd love to see that.
2 hours and 38 minutes of KISS talk???!!! I'm a huge KISS fan since the 70's, but my fucking god, this is ridiculous!
+AudiophileTubes then you best not listen to this show. Every episode is pretty much two hours.
+Michael Brandvold LOL, do you have an 'abridged version' for those of us who can't devote 2 hours per show? I'd love to take the time to listen to this, but I just can't devote 2 hours!
+AudiophileTubes Nope, sorry.
+Michael Brandvold - then it's thumbs down for you
I know and the Mark guy is just ridiculous...
I remember that towel on the auction....I said to myself..does anyone really believe this?
The original cats were stolen as well. They showed up as Halloween decorations in an Atlanta suburb.
Thumbs up from me!! AEROSMITH ALERT in the 137th minute!! Blue Kool-Aid Drinker. Peace out from the Southern Tip of Vancouver island, B.C. Canada.
When was the first time that Gene "flew"?
+Lance E Dynasty tour.
Hello There Thanks, but I was looking for the actual date of the show. I saw them on this tour (second night) and Gene didn't fly.
Really? The tour started on June 15, 1979 and I was always under the impression he started flying on that day.
Hello There Nope, Gene didn't fly when I saw him. I read that they had a lot of problems with effects on that tour, so I wonder if that had anything to do with it.
Maybe. I wonder if he was able to fly the first night.
Good stuff though
Serpent? or Serpant?
Creatures is pretty NWOBHM
Bullfrog bheer druids of Stonehenge 1969 markee two upstate new York bands on Same bill at genes college
